    Show notes

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. The inaugural SheMoney Summit is coming up soon in Downtown Salt Lake City. This experimental event will be centered on the theme: MONEY MATTERS. Local philanthropist, financier and SheMoney Founder Jacki Zehner joins us with more. Jacki Zehner: Whose signature is on over $1.3 trillion of US currency? The answer is Rosie Rios, the 43rd Treasurer of the United States, and you can have the opportunity to hear from her on June 7th at the SheMoney Summit here in Salt Lake City. She is one of 14 amazing guest speakers and workshop leaders taking the stage at our inaugural SheMoney Summit. Wondering about SheMoney? It’s a Utah-based company dedicated to supporting women+ on their journey to financial preparedness, wellness and agency. We've hosted and participated in over 35 money-centric events over the past 18 months right here in Utah— thanks in part to the support of Zions Bank and our state legislature. As we like to say, money is not optional. We all need it to survive and to thrive. And what we have heard repeatedly from the many women attending is: We need more! More guidance, education, community and hands-on learning. That’s what the SheMoney Summit is all about. Join us June 6th – 7th. Visit SheMoney.com or SheMoneySummit.com for more information. Derek Miller: The SheMoney Summit will feature a dynamic program of “money talks,” thought-provoking discussions and more. Reimagine your relationship with money and take the next steps toward greater financial health. We hope to see you there! I’m Derek Miller with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business. Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Intermountain Area provides families of ill or injured children with comforting, supportive, and healing spaces like the Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in a number of Utah hospitals. CEO Carrie Romano joins us with more. Carrie Romano: Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Intermountain Area is built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on the health of their child. Keeping families together not only provides a sense of normalcy and social support but it also improves patient outcomes. To continue providing these critical services, Ronald McDonald House Charities relies on community support, donations, and the Round-Up program at local McDonald’s restaurants. Additionally, volunteers to provide and prepare meals for families are needed now more than ever before! Show your support by visiting ronaldmcdonaldhouseutah.org. Show notes

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. WHOlives is a nonprofit organization with a goal described by the acronym ‘W-H-O’ – providing clean Water, better Health and economic Opportunities to all people while prioritizing sustainability and self-reliance. Founder and Executive Director John Renouard joins us with more. John Renouard: So in 2010, I was on vacation in Africa when I saw these young girls missing school because they were forced to walk miles to fetch water for their families. I knew I had to do something, so I created the non-profit WHOlives. For 10 months I worked with local engineering students to create a human-powered water drill. Our Village Drill has now completed nearly 15,000 wells worldwide, empowering over 14 million people. Today, WHOlives is excited about our newest innovation, the Village Drill Hybrid, an electric drill that’s even stronger and drills faster! But we now have way more requests for water than we have funds, so WHOlives is looking for businesses and even individuals to join with us to make a difference. So please, consider making a donation or join us in Africa for an epic experience and Safari. Again, we would love for you to get involved with our mission, just visit us at WHOlives.org, that’s WHOlives.org. Derek Miller: Just last year, WHOlives was honored with the Hunger and Poverty Award at the .ORG Impact Awards Ceremony for their innovative community solutions.
