Richard de Sousa Takes On ABSA In David and Goliath Battle Sep 10, 2020

    As reported here: https://globalcrypto.tv/south-africas-altcointrader-opposes-absa-in-court-interdict/

Global Crypto has learned of a developing David and Goliath scenario in the South African crypto industry, wherein crypto exchange AltCoinTrader appear to be taking on banking giant ABSA Bank in the country’s High Court.

According to sources, AltCoinTrader were served with a notice from MyGate Communications (Pty) Ltd received by the exchange last week Tuesday 01 September 2020. The notice informed the exchange that their QR code payment gateway service would cease to serve AltCoinTrader with immediate effect.

MyGate’s “Zapper” product is one of South Africa’s largest QR code payment gateway service providers, and according to our source, AltCoinTrader is among their top 5 clients by payment volume.

Global Crypto reached out to the company’s CEO, Richard de Sousa who confirmed the information - this interview provides de Sousa's comments.

Rugby Legend Bryan Habana On Coding, Tech, Entrepreneurship, and Crypto Jan 14, 2020

In the next video of our Africa Tech video series, we interviewed Keynote Speaker Bryan Habana, who took to the stage to share his entrepreneurship journey since retiring from professional rugby. Bryan studied Computer Science before becoming a professional rugby player, so his understanding of the tech industry is far more in-depth than people realise.

In this interview, Bryan chats with SA Crypto's Managing Editor James Preston about how similar entrepreneurship is to a professional sporting career, and why tech startups are so important to the South African economy, among other things.

Ray Youssef, Founder & CEO of Paxful, On Entrepreneurship & Why Bitcoin Works Jan 03, 2020

Born in Egypt, Ray Youssef's family moved out to New York when he was only a toddler. Watching his father closely, he learnt the "art of the hustle", and stepped into the world of entrepreneurship himself. He partnered with developers on early smartphone internet access and founded a ringtones marketplace all in the late nineties and early 2000's.

After a number of startup successes, exits and failures, he founded Paxful in 2015 with a software dev friend of his, seeing the huge potential in Bitcoin. Paxful has since grown to become one of the leading Bitcoin wallets and marketplaces in the world, with over 2 million users.

In this insightful interview, James explores what excites Ray most about the Paxful product, and what is to come in their unique crypto ecosystem.

Warren Gray of CoinEd and BlockStarters Sep 04, 2019

Warren Gray is a former Mechanical Engineer who focused on Sustainable Energy (it's true, he drives a BMW i3) who began mining Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in 2016, and became such a believer in the technology, that he founded a crypto mining operation utilizing his engineering skills.

This led to the founding of CoinEd and then BlockStarters, among other crypto ventures, which have all taken off. We here at SA Crypto were introduced to Warren through our own mining genius, Gerald Boardman, and the rest is history. Warren is now an active member of our social chat community, and is growing as a leading voice in South Africa's blockchain space.

He visited us down at our office in Durban, and we chatted to him about CoinEd, as well as his recent trip to Kenya where CoinEd trained a host of Kenyan High School pupils about Bitcoin, economics, and blockchain.

🦄 Fluffy Pony, Dawie Roodt, & More at BECSA's Chain Reaction 2.0 Sep 04, 2019

On Thursday 29 August 2019, the Blockchain Entrepreneurs Club of South Africa held their second edition of "Chain Reaction" in Sandton, the economic hub of Africa. It was ironic then that the leading thinkers in the future of finance came together in such a location to discuss the most disruptive technology in economics we've ever seen: Blockchain.

Headlined by Dawie Roodt, famed South African economist and political commentator, Chain Reaction 2.0 brought investors, entrepreneurs and developers together to explore the possibilities of the future.

Opening the event however was a Fireside Chat with arguably South Africa's most famous crypto celebrity, Riccardo Spagni. Known as "Fluffy Pony" on Twitter, Spagni gained fame as one of the lead developers on the Monero Project (a privacy blockchain), and has gone on to build Tari and Globee. The Fireside Chat was hosted by Kirsty Bisset, CEO of FinTech Growth Agency SwiftX.

Dawie Roodt was up next, explaining the history of money, and interweaving South Africa's precarious financial situation with how economics has developed to this modern day, stating clearly that the entire system is poised for drastic change.

After Dawie was CEO of one of Africa's leading blockchain companies; Luno. Marcus Swanepoel has overseen Luno's sensational success, and in his talk he took us through the trends they are seeing in the industry based on the activity of their users. Unfortunately Marcus was unable to chat to us after the event, but we did get to speak to the GM of Africa at Luno, Marius Reitz.

The MC was none other than Khaya Dlanga, who also sped off after the event, meaning we'll have to get an interview with him in a separate event.

Interview with Richard de Sousa (Aug 2019) about CryptoFest, Digital Gold, Bitcoin Maximalism, & Future of Society! Aug 23, 2019

In this interview with Richard de Sousa, CEO of AltCoinTrader, James asks about their recent launch of Gold and Silver on their platform, and what the response has been like. He also delves into the future of society thanks to the blockchain technology, and even touches on Bitcoin maximalism.

You can watch to the video version of the interview here: https://youtu.be/RQ-Lrc9hqHg

Full list of questions covered in this interview:

    - Were you the founder of Netspace? What services did Netspace offer?
    - What did you do with Netspace after you got ACT up and running?

    GOLD AND SILVER
    - How has the response been to digital gold and silver?
    - Could you elaborate on how you peg the price to the value of the real precious metals? (If the digital versions of the Kruger coins were much cheaper, people would buy and then cash out via your withdrawal by courier system. If much more expensive people wouldn’t invest or trade - so surely you have some form of algorithm stabilizing the price?)
    - Have you had anyone withdraw their Kruger coins yet?
    - Who are the retail partners? A single chain, or a number of chains linked in a partnership?
    - Will you ever introduce deposits via the retail partner? This could provide arbitrage opportunities for speculators.

    CRYPTOCURRENCIES
    - As a South African exchange, can you tell us how much data and information the SARB and FSC ask from you?
    - You’re the only exchange in Africa to offer the BTT airdrop. How have you found Tron’s honouring of this airdrop, and what are your thoughts on their move with BitTorrent?
    - How does ACT choose new coins to list? Is there a listing fee if projects approach you?
    - You offer Bitcoin SV, on your exchange. What are your thoughts on the Bitcoin forks controversy? Do you think there is even room for BSV?
    - You’re a headline speaker at Cryptofest, one of the first events of its kind in Africa. How would you rate the current cryptocurrency investment climate in South Africa?
    - How do you see cryptocurrencies impacting/affecting the geo-political future of our societies, if at all?

Helghardt Avenant is an incredible young man. Helghardt started his Tech journey as an Industrial Engineering student at the University of Stellenbosch, where he began experimenting with Bitcoin wallet designs. Helghardt and his team then got building on "REHIVE", a white-label software development platform for the FinTech industry. Think "Shopify for FinTech". This interview will inspire you!

BTC Holding, ETH, BNB & XLM Analysis: Market Analysis E11 May 21, 2019

In Episode 11 of Market Analysis, we look at why Graeme didn't buy BTC at $8000 (it bounced off resistance hard), and then look at the bullish charts of Ether (ETH) and Stellar Lumens (XLM) - as well as a look at Binance Coin (BNB), despite it not looking as bullish as the others. Remember, if Bitcoin pumps, the altcoin markets will be a "no trade zone" until BTC stabilises. But while Bitcoin remains below $8100, the altcoin markets are looking interesting.

Botswana's "Bitcoin Lady", talks about Bitcoin in Africa - #BAC19 Apr 11, 2019

Alakanani Itireleng is a remarkable woman. Her son fell ill a few years ago, and on a teacher's salary, getting adequate treatment was immensely difficult. She began experimenting with the world's first borderless digital currency: Bitcoin, in order to raise the money needed to treat her son.
Alakanani was blown away by the technological marvel that Bitcoin was, and devoted her life to educating others about it. Being a teacher, she established the "Satoshi Centre" in her home town in Botswana back in 2014, and has become a leading authority on the technology here in Africa.
James caught up with her at Blockchain Africa, Jo'burg, 2019.
