On The Shoulders Of Giants 36: You Have No Idea What's Impossible Oct 24, 2018

Show notes

The sun rises over the glittering peaks of the Silverback Mountains, painting the world in a dazzling coruscation. Florian Von Argent stands in her chambers at the apex of Castle Silverhome, watching the early morning shadows stretch deep and dark across the open courtyard. Servants dash across the tiled expanse, preparing the trail gear for the day's events. Brandt the Enduring waits outside her door, awaiting his lifelong comrade's arrival and their subsequent return to the land of mortals, the inevitable downward arc of her parabolic lifestyle. Florian sighs, clasping the last button on her jacket. She straightens her sash. Walks out the door, greets Brandt, and begins their descent down the stairs.

As much as they might like, the two of them can't simply live among the clouds. Nobody can.

Not anymore.

On The Shoulder Of Giants 35: Failure Is A Matter Of Course Oct 17, 2018

A selection of the smells of various guests of the Argent Gala, as according to Mister Thoreau.

-Florian Von Argent: determination. Not sure how, but that's definitely the smell. Also sunflowers.

-Brandt the Enduring: Steel, silver, metal, iron... It's like the guy's made of metal.

-Lantern's Light: This guy smells sneaky.

-Mister Palm and Miss Fist: Sweat, gunpowder, steel, perfume.

-Etcetera Et Cetera: Oh, you're easy! Paper, ink, leather bindings, and blueberries!

-Weyland Ivaldi: Like moss and a good walk in the woods. Too bad it's covered up by all the metal.

-Gehnnen Strauss von Roche: Smells rich. Rich food, rich clothes.

-Dauntless Leroux: Testosterone. Cologne. Lead?

-Miss Hawthorne and Mister Emerson: Family. Home.

Show notes

Additional facts, theories, and anecdotes about Dauntless Leroux, from the notes of Etcetera Et Cetera:

-Dauntless Leroux maintains his champion position within the Galyrian Naval Boxing Commission; to date, no challenger has ever been able to defeat him, even this far into his admiralty.

-He once fought a megalodon, naked, armed only with a yard of rope, and won.

-His ships never fall to bad weather, because bad weather is afraid of Dauntless Leroux.

-Dauntless Leroux once shouted a kraken into releasing his ship.

-The tides in Harrowshore are caused by Dauntless Leroux doing pushups.

On The Shoulders Of Giants 33: I Love Me A Good Fantasy Library Oct 03, 2018

Show notes

HER WOND’ROUS GAZE

Author Unknown

Her wond’rous gaze, it dances on the sea,

Kaleidoscopic, shimmering and bright.

Chevaliers rejoice on bended knee,

Basking in the kindness of her sight.

With armor gleaming, riders of the dawn

Come thund’ring down the valleys of the sky

Their lord and ladies proudly cheer them on

A-rallied by their holy battle cry!

“To arms!” they cry, and leap into the fight,

“Our lives to keep the world from going still!”

And all the while the kingdom’s anguish’d blight

Erodes the holy trinity’s goodwill.

Her wond’rous gaze, now guarded, shines above

After so long, do I still have her love?

On The Shoulders Of Giants 32: Do You Protect Us, Too? Sep 26, 2018

Show notes

Gala Supper Buffet Menu:

-Baked catfish fillets, seasoned with white wine, lemon juice, cilantro, butter, and garlic.

-Hand-strained noodles with shrimp and red sauce.

-Grilled Behrenese sausage with sauerkraut.

-Fresh-baked bread(sourdough, whole wheat, Valentinan rolls).

-Unrefined silicates of various families(quartz, topaz, serpentine) for Miss Fantastic and her entourage.

-A suckling pig, to keep up appearances.

-Diced and skewered fruit from our friends in Walden.

This is a supper, Marian, so keep the drinks easy; champagne, ciders, light ales. At the same time, don't be stingy; make sure that any hand without a drink in it is given the option otherwise. Blitzed-out drunk does not an enjoyable party make, but neither does stone sober.

As long as conversation flows freely, we'll have done our job well.

On The Shoulders Of Giants 31: This One Is My Son Now Sep 19, 2018

Show notes

The eyes of Amatyne the Sunturion gaze out, warm and still, from the facade carved into the highest wall of the Silverhome courtyard. The Solar Guardian, She Whose Patrol Marks Our Days has not been seen in flesh amongst the people of the Endless Sea since the end of the age of Titans, but the workers of Castle Silverhome appreciate her bright and noble eyes all the same, so similar to the eyes of their beloved Lady. As the servants, chefs, smiths, and other staff of the Argent homestead toil seemingly endlessly in the preparations for Lady von Argent's Ascension Gala, they are invigorated by the presence of their Lady, even moreso by the fact that she toils alongside them all the same. They pay no heed to the impossibility of their goals, nor to the stresses of their work. Not with Lady to guide them.

Not with the Lady to light the way.

On The Shoulders Of Giants 27: We Got Rats, And Also Elves Aug 22, 2018

Show notes

The people of the Bastion have, by and large, chosen it as a residence out of necessity; either by duty, circumstance, or destiny, those who live there are bound to this strange and ancient place. A house is not necessarily a home, however, and a place as old as the Bastion has more than a few mysteries yet left to uncover. The question hangs heavy on everyone's mind as the gleaming white catamarans of an elven expedition make their way to the Bastion's dock: is this place safe for us?

This Week on Roll Dice And Cry: Nothing like that is gonna happen here, is it?
