Olav Basoski RIPEcast Guest Mix May 29, 2019
    Show notes

On this weeks episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we have a special guest mix from house music legend OLAV BASOSKI. Don’t miss Olav live in San Francisco on June 22nd at Monarch for "Space Cowboys in the House”. Event details and ticket links are below: https://www.facebook.com/events/297636691152103/ http://bit.ly/cowboys-olav-tix Learn more about Olav here: Olav Basoski is the “grand seigneur” of Dutch house music. Anyone who has heard him lay one of his firing sets across the globe has been overwhelmed by his ability to lock a dance floor into a groove for hours on end. Olav Basoski stood at the crib of the international house scene and has been on top of it ever since. Being the leading man behind the infamous Dutch label Work Records in the 1990's he’s released one true classic after another. Think Pancake – “Don’t turn your back”, think Sil – “Windows”, or “Opium Scumbagz”, the #1 Ibiza anthem of 2000 under his own name on Defected Records, not to mention one of the most sought after house music vinyl series ever produced, “Samplitude”, comprising over 50 tracks in all. And it doesn’t stop there. Olav’s remix discography is astounding. From Moby to James Brown, from Bob Marley to Bingo Players and from Armin van Buuren to Todd Terry to Sander van Doorn, everyone has called him in for help. His DJ sets have gained him a reputation of being one of the most respected players in the scene for over 20 years. Chris G (Black Rock Roller Disco) RIPEcast Guest Mix May 23, 2019
    Show notes

On this weeks episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we are continuing to celebrate Bay Area DJ heroes by bringing you CHRIS G from the Black Rock Roller Disco Crew. Here are a few words from Chris about this mix: “i got a little tease on 1/1/1998 when i was brought (via a map point and an ink stamp from a nearby empty disco club) to my first Detroit techno party…But i throughly investigated, in disbelief, at what i was witnessing in the summer of 1998…An underground rave at a new party venue in a giant East Detroit warehouse (System)…John Acquaviva was the only DJ for 10 hours…48 18” Sub bins, and every new house & techno record played, blended in using a uninterrupted long and continuous train wreck free mix…Richie Hawtin became the staple for my next 10 years (after he was allowed to come back to the US and play in Detroit again), but John Acquaviva was always there, opening the first 4 hours of Rich’s epic (Plus 8 & M-NUS) Detroit parties. I've heard and reviewed many approaches to DJing over the last 21 years, so many new genres!…Minimal Techno was what Detroit provided socially for me, and Chicago was there, to occasionally influence me as well…I always loved the disco and house elements to John’s sets- and that became the main driving force behind my record selection and DJ style, still true today. I've been continuing an “only underground” tradition in the SF Bay Area area for 12 years now, along with a compatible alter ego- playing disco & funk remixes- remaining loyal to my Burning Man camp: The Black Rock Roller Disco. You can find me playing live, if you put a little effort into finding out where!” - DJ Chris G Check out more from Chris G here: soundcloud.com/dj-chris-g-2 Track Listing: Tracklist: Perculator (Funkerman 2018 mix) - Cajmere vs Funkerman Atomizer (Original Mix) - Format:B No School Rules (Original Mix) - Jed X Frying Fish (Original Mix) - DJ Dan, Ido Vision (Original Mix) - Alex Kennon Hydraulic (Original Mix) - DJ Mes Take It (Extended Mix) - Dom Dolla Crazy Horse (Original Mix) - Piero Pirupa Sex A’Pill (Milkwish & Jean Bacarreza Remix) - Miqro Do U Got Funk? ezwhip RIPEcast Guest Mix Apr 04, 2019
    Show notes

On this weeks episode of the RIPEcast, we are featuring a guest mix from ezwhip of the San Francisco EGGSTATIC ATTIC crew. Here is a bit more about ezwhip and the upcoming EGGS Bar fundraising event on April 13th. Check it out! San Francisco-based ezwhip remembers with vivid clarity the exact moment he first heard the opening notes of Erasure’s “Who Needs Love Like That?,” launching a now 30-year love affair with electronic music. His pioneering early 90s radio show Chillspace explored the nascent genre of ambient house, but it was turn-of-the-century Burning Man that dumped rocket fuel onto a burgeoning obsession with the broken beat (with all due props to the Space Cowboys for fanning the flames). He’s rocked parties all over the Bay Area and the playa, but his favorite venue is the Ecstatic Attic, where he hosts regular underground sessions for a “coalition of the chilling.” His tastes reflect a passion for a variety of styles and genres, weaving fresh sounds with properly-cellared bangers to inspire both old heads and new generations of bass-chasing, booty-shaking beat freaks. Long-time listener, first-time caller: this exclusive guest mix for the RIPEcast is all that, and more -- a veritable “Bass to Breakers” if you will. Watch your bassbins, I’m tellin’ ya.
