Dj ROCKIT RIPEcast Exclusive Mix Oct 07, 2020

Show notes

This week, we have another artist that's been featured a number of times in our recent Unison events—Dj ROCKIT. What's better than releasing his recording from Unison? Why, a 90-min mix specially crafted for you listeners of the RIPEcast, of course. Enjoy! Here's what Dj ROCKIT had to say about the mix: "First off I want to give a huge shout out and thank you the Space Cowboys for having me on as a guest mix. So much love and respect to the whole crew! This mix right here comes from the heart and soul of a Punk Rock, B-Boy, Breakbeat, Techfunk, Techno, DnB, House Music, Lovin Dj and a true Raver at heart. To me this mix is what a perfect night in the main room of the Legendary Home Base Concourse center would be if it was still around today. That old skool Massive feel, but with some of today's banging Breaks, House and Techno. And if you have been there, then you know what I mean, and if you haven't, well I hope this mix makes you dance, freak out and feel like you can party at home with your emotions on your sleeve. That's how I love to play for anyone who is listening and that's how Home Base used to make me feel. I so hope you all enjoy this one, it will make the Raver in you dance!" Bio: January 1st 1995, Dj Rockit took up the art of Dj’ing and stepping behind the decks he set out with one mission, to make people feel the groove and party their asses off! From there on he developed his own unique style of Breaks, House and Techno. Since then he has played at parties ranging from small intimate events to some of the biggest Massives and nightclubs in Northern California, Las Vegas, Idaho, Utah and Florida. Currently Dj Rockit is a resident for some of the most notorious and well known crews in Northern California & around the world, Strategik SF, 1200 Hustle, Smoke Break Crew, Fraktured SF, Theoryon records, Funky Flavor & Sideshow Kuts international. EVA RIPEcast Exclusive Mix Sep 24, 2020

Show notes

This week, we are welcoming breaks phenom EVA of Strategik and Fraktured LA. EVA's mixes are journeys of soul while simultaneously, as her SoundCloud name attests, face-melting. Enjoy this mix she crafted exclusively for the RIPEcast! Here's what EVA had to say about the mix: "Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. A person who stood for human rights, for gender equality, for being oneself and living one's best life. I am one of many women who have reaped the rewards of being born into - and currently living within - her epic dynasty. Though completed before her death this mix is a direct reflection of the freedom and opportunity I, and countless others, have been afforded under her protection. To say and do what we want, and to be who and what we want. To let our freak flag fly and to live our best life. I hope the joy and pure happiness I felt making this mix effectively expresses exactly that. We are still here, we matter, and though we may be distant we are most certainly not alone. I invite you to take a deep breath right now, for you and you alone, and allow yourself these next 70 minutes of personal freedom. Music is the only thing that will always make sense. It is my safe space, my church, my home within. So in that spirit, and with all the love and space and strength in my heart, 2020: I fucking dissent." DJ Mes RIPEcast Live at Classics 2020 Sep 17, 2020

Show notes

We are still coming with many recordings from our Unison 4 event but this week, we are bringing you a brand new 2-hour mix from Guesthouse Music's DJ Mes recorded live at Classics 2020! About DJ Mes: DJ Mes | Guesthouse Music | Oakland, CA

Bay-Area bred DJ Mes (Jason Sutton) rarely slows his groove. Since the 2004 inception of his Oakland-based label, Guesthouse Music, Mes has produced a prolific catalogue of bass-heavy tracks that have scorched dance floors amid the ebb and flow of electronic music. As a DJ, his sets have inspired; as a producer, his montage of disco-dredged beats meld bump with rhythm and bass to create hot buzz in front of and beyond the speakers. In 2011, Traxsource honored Mes with the top spot on a list of 100 best house tracks of 2011 following the release of the bumpy Chicago-sound behind "Fools Gold" (Cajual Recordings).  Mes· career dates back to the mid-1990s, when the future producer took early influence from the likes of DJ Dan (Funky Tech no Tribe) and Tony Hewitt (Tango Recordings). Some two decades later, it would be DJ Dan who would join the talent ranks of Guesthouse Music, Mes' genre-defying imprint that earned him notoriety beyond numerous festival appearances, club residencies, and as co-founder of Daddy's Records (1996). Unlike previous endeavors, Guesthouse bloomed as a personal and creative project inspired by the underground house community that embraced the sound in the U.S. and overseas. While Mes continued releasing tracks on acclaimed labels such as Casual, Relief, Glasgow Underground and Salted, it is his own Guesthouse Music that set the pace, approaching 600 releases-including 50 vinyl releases-since its inception.
Mes' ear for talent led to the unveiling of some of the most successful names in underground house, including breakout artists of 2011, J Paul Getto, who scaled the charts of Traxsource with "Need More Music" and "Paris Fried Chicken" Boundary-bending producers, such as Gramphonedzie, and classic acts, such as Cosy Creatures and The Sound Republic, exploded onto the scene under Mes· own A&R moxie. Even while he introduced new DJs and producers to audiences, he continued creating his own body of boompty sounds.  While Mes looks ahead for talent, he creatively nods to sounds that inspired him to slide behind the decks more than 16 years ago. In 2011, Mes followed up his seminal "Fools Gold" release (Cajual Recordings) with a second EP, "Town Business." "Lonley Nights," a rework of Isaac Hayes classic "I Can't Turn Around," climbed the underground charts alongside a remix of The Magi classic, "C'mon Clap Your Hands." Even while maintaining a regular touring schedule throughout the U.S. and Europe, Mes continues partnering with the some of the scene's most lauded producers, such as DJ Sneak and his own greatest influence, DJ Dan.  In December 2011, Mes and Guesthouse created another piece of house music history by releasing their 100th track, "3000" (J Paul Getto). For Mes, it marks the beginning of another phase of underground house evolution. Adds Mes: "I'm always working to sign new or undiscovered music and talent to the label, and maybe even throw a curve ball to startle people with a new, unexpected style or sound. It's what it's all about."  Bass. Beats. Funk. That's what Mes is all about!
