Dancing Mandy RIPEcast Live at Unison 5 Jan 08, 2021

Show notes

Happy new year! Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Breakfast of Champions LIVEcast edition! We raised $9001 for the SF Marin Food Bank and are busy preparing the mixes from the day for your enjoyment. But first, we have an amazing mix live from Unison 5 by none other than Airpusher Collective's Dancing Mandy! Here's what she had to say about the mix: "This mix is a journey through all the sounds that have inspired me through these nutty pandemic times. Like this season of so many of our lives, there are twists and turns and expressions of joy and angst. While we can’t be together right now, I have found so much solace and connection through online events like Unison and my Shelter in Bass series on Twitch and feel so very lucky to not only be featured on my first RIPEcast but to be part of such an inventive, resilient and supportive community of creatives!" stickybeats RIPEcast Live at Unison 4 Dec 23, 2020

Show notes

Happy holidays everyone! We close out the year with a live recording from Bay Area producer and DJ, stickybeats (@stickybeats_sf). In addition to being a talented DJ, he's recently produced a few tracks with Space Cowboy's own kev/null across multiple genres. We'll be taking a break next week for RIPEcast. In the meantime, please make sure to give us a rating if you've been enjoying the RIPEcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ripecast-by-space-cowboys/id637170409 and join us next week for a virtual Breakfast of Champions! https://www.facebook.com/events/446447503017921 Here's what he had to say about the set: "Huge thank you to Space Cowboys for having me on as a guest DJ! This year more than ever, it's music that connects us and keeps us together. Recorded live from a super secret living room location in SF for Unison 4, an online streaming party that raised $10,000 for Santa Cruz Wildfire Relief. I'm happy to share this set with you as it weaves in and out of tech house and funky disco house, taking you on a journey of big bass lines and catchy grooves. Turn it up and enjoy the mix!" Rumblemunk RIPEcast live at LIVEcast 12 Dec 16, 2020

Show notes

This week, we are featuring our very own Rumblemunk from his set at LIVEcast 12. Rumblemunk has been a staple of this year's virtual Space Cowboys virtual events and been a force to reckon with behind the decks and behind the scenes. Here's what he had to say about this mix: "This has been a year of digging in the “Rekordbox” and mixing new hotness with old tunes that no one has heard me play. It kind of turned into a love letter to Quadrat Beat and that’s OK. I did manage to sneak an older remix too, so keep an ear out for the Public Enemy drop. Producer note: the remix not only uses the vocal samples from Bring The Noise, musically it follows the guitar riffs that Anthrax played in the original." Stuart Hill Robinson RIPEcast Live at Unison 5 Dec 09, 2020

Show notes

This week, we're continuing releases from Unison 5 (@unison_stream). This time it's a heavy-hitting breaks mix from Santa Cruz DJ Sessions' Stuart Hill Robinson. Enjoy! Here's what Stu had to say about the mix: "I've been working closely with members of the Space Cowboys for the Unison Events of 2020. I'm extremely grateful to work with the Unison team, and to have the opportunity to play on the Space Cowboys Twitch channel. This mix is from Unison 5, and is an incredible, bass-filled hour!" About Stuart Hill Robinson: Stuart Hill Robinson has been working in SF Bay Area music and entertainment off and on for over 20 years, having been a promoter for Clockwork Events and Funky Techno Tribe in the late 1990s and early 2000s, along with conventional DJ/MC work for Sound In Motion Events. He prefers to work behind the scenes, which is why you will rarely find his mixes online, or his name on a flyer. But he hopes that you appreciate what he does share. J'amie Ma Vie RIPEcast Live at Unison 5 Nov 26, 2020

Show notes

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it. In these times, we're particularly thankful for the solace of music and amazing talent we get to share. This week we’re delighted to bring you Strategik’s very own J’Aime Ma Vie on her first ever RIPEcast. J’amie Ma Vie, also known as Jamie James, has a deep appreciation for all electronic music, but drum & bass will always have her heart. This special Unison 5 set is sure to take you on a magical adventure, easing in with a softer side then building up to bring it on home. Here's what J'amie Ma Vie had to say about the mix: "This mix was born for Unison 5. I have been helping coordinate Unison over the last several months, along the way raising money for several important Bay Area causes. Representing Strategik, I've developed a deep bond with my fellow Unison coordinators, including members of Space Cowboys, Angels of Bass, FnF, Ambient Mafia, Venus Grove Collective, 3 Degrees, and Decadent Oasis. The opportunity to live-stream with such talented DJs is an honor." ****** Sign up to hear about our future events: Facebook: www.facebook.com/sfspacecowboys Instagram: www.instagram.com/spacecowboyssf/ Mailing list: spacecowboys.org Unison information and updates: Updates: unison.substack.com/subscribe Website: unison.stream ****** About J'amie Ma Vie: After finding her way to her first underground in 1995, Jamie James quickly realized she was not only a raver but a dancer down to her core. From that point on she has danced her way through life, knowing the dance floor will always be a sacred and therapeutic space to hold her. Feeling extremely grateful to have found the rave scene at such a young age, Jamie decided to help produce parties in Seattle, Honolulu, San Francisco and Austin. In 2007 she joined forces with her beloved Strategik crew, known for their out-of-this world, marathon renegades and signature breaks vibe. True to her heart, Jamie worked hard to keep a variety of other genres flowing throughout many of Strategik's lineups, especially drum & bass. In 2016, twenty years after her first party, Jamie finally decided to jump in and learn to mix. That’s when DJ J’amie Ma Vie was born. Becoming a DJ has been one of the most humbling experiences Jamie has ever had. Experiencing first hand the amount of time, energy, and love that goes into creating a musical journey continues to blow her mind. As a dancer Jamie has always held a deep appreciation for DJs, but taking a chance and learning what it’s like to be on the other side of the decks has expanded her understanding and respect for DJ culture exponentially. While Jamie enjoys playing multiple genres, drum & bass stole her heart in the late 90’s and will always be her favorite to throw down. When she’s not behind the decks you can find Jamie handling operations for festivals and events all over the world, including Envision, Sunset Sound System, LIB, Dirtybird, BoC, Unison & Sanctuary. This week, we continue our releases of some of our favorite live sets from Unison 4. This one is from breakbeat specialist Hijinx of Decadent Oasis and 3 Degrees. Join us October 23-24 for Unison 5, benefiting Oakland Relief Fund for COVID-19 at https://unison.stream. Here's what Hijinx had to say about the mix: "This mix was a blast to pull together and I'm stoked to share it with the RIPEcast. I put a good amount of bump & grind in it and threw in some funk & electro for fun. A little about me. I've been part of the scene since 1992 and DJing since 2020. I'm really blessed to be part of several amazing collectives -- old school, longstanding crew Friends & Family, another legendary crew 3 Degrees, and of course, Esplanade regulars Decadent Oasis. Hope you all enjoy it and it lifts your spirits -- or even makes you stand up and dance it out in your living room! Thanks for listening and ENJOY!"
