INTRODUCING: Leave the Lights On: The Short Family Murders Jan 26, 2022

Show notes

Check out one of my favorite podcasts from one of my favorite creators, Eliza. This week’s case takes place in a county near Eliza's childhood home. On August 15, 2002, the bodies of 50-year-old Michael Short and 36-year-old Mary Short were found in their southern Virginia home. Each had been shot in the head once while sleeping. However, missing from the scene entirely was the couple's 9-year-old daughter, Jennifer. Why would someone kill Michael and Mary and where’s Jennifer? Conversations w/ Ignorance Was Bliss: Suzanne Lyall Jan 22, 2022

Show notes

In this episode I talk to former Forensic Psychologist Kate about a case that has captivated me for a very long time...it's sort of a hometown case for Kate, in that she went to University in upstate NY, so she knows lots of details. Suzanne Lyall would disappear in the infancy of the internet age on March 2, 1998. Suzanne was very gifted with computers from a young age and there will be multiple threads that tie in to the burgeoning technology of the day and her boyfriend at the time Richard Condon. Was this someone close to Suzie? or was this an opportunistic stranger abduction?

Conversations w/ Indie Podcaster/The Trail Went Cold: The Circleville Letters Jan 15, 2022

Show notes

In this episode Robin Warder, my co-host from the Path Went Chilly, as well as the host of the Trail Went Cold tells Jeff from Indie Podcaster and I about the Circleville letters. Along the way we question the popular theories as to who the letter writer or letter writers may be.

Here is Robin's original Trail Went Cold description of the show/sources:
August 19, 1977. Circleville, Ohio. After receiving a phone call, an angry Ron Gillispie frantically drives away from his home and dies after crashing into a tree. For the past several months, Ron’s wife, Mary Gillispie, had been receiving anonymous threatening letters expressing anger about her alleged affair with another man. In total, over a thousand anonymous letters would be sent to residents of the area during this time period. Five-and-a-half years later, Mary would find a homemade booby trap containing a gun belonging to Ron’s former brother-in-law, Paul Freshour. Paul is accused of being the author of the anonymous letters and spends ten years in prison for Mary’s attempted murder, but the threatening letters continue to be sent while Paul is incarcerated. Was Paul Freshour the mysterious “Circleville Writer” or was he framed and wrongly imprisoned? For our special two-year anniversary show of “The Trail Went Cold”, we will be chronicling a case which was voted on by our listeners: the bizarre saga of “The Circleville Letters”. Special thanks to listener Jamie Sciullo for narrating the opening of this episode, and Tyler from “The Minds of Madness” podcast for providing the voice of the Circleville Writer.
Also, a big thanks to Esther Gamez for providing us with another terrific piece of cover art for this episode. Be sure to check out Esther’s Facebook and Tumblr pages to see more of her artwork.

Conversations w/ Robin Warder: The Murders of Nancy & Daniel Benoit Jan 08, 2022

Show notes

This is the story of professional wrestler Chris Benoit and his spiral downwards into (most likely) the effects of traumatic brain injury as well as drugs and alcohol, resulting in his choice to murder those closest to him, his wife Nancy and 7 year old son Daniel before taking his own life. This is an incredibly complex case because of the time period. We explore CTE & KFAB in this episode, which is a passion case of Robin's since most of you know he is a HUGE wrestling fan.

ITRODUCING Curly Conspiracies: The Persian Princess Mummy Jan 06, 2022

Show notes

This is legitimately one of my don't want to miss it podcasts every week. Each episode is typically around 30 minutes so it's perfect while preparing dinner or going for a walk. This is a fun and evidence based way to explore popular conspiracy theories. Description of episode & podcast below.
Description of Show:
Curly Conspiracies podcast is a show filled with mysteries, conspiracies, and things that go bump in the night. Each episode covers deep topics that bring laughter, curiosity, and a new perspective of events that have taken place in our history. Join Holly and Brooke every Thursday for a new mystery or conspiracy theory that will blow your tin foil hat off!
During a murder investigation, a tip leads police to a video of a mummified 2,600 year old Persian Princess circulating the dark web in Pakistan being sold on the black market. Details about this discovery made scientists skeptical about its authenticity. Once more research was done though, what they found was much more disturbing than they had ever imagined.

Introducing my FAVORITE cult-centric pod: TSFU- ep. 71 The Family Dec 28, 2021

Show notes

I HIGHLY recommend you check out this podcast from one of my nearest and dearest Ashley & her co-host Cam. If you love Cults...this is literally your new favorite podcast.
TSFU the Podcast is a true crime comedy podcast about cults, murder and other generally horrific stuff. TSFU hosts Ashley and Cam tell enthralling stories, using comedy and thorough research to explore what inspires people to do the awful things they do. Nature? Nurture? Society? Let's investigate from our couches together... while we play murder bingo!
TSFU Ep. 71- The Family.mp3
This week the gals talk about notoriously brutal Australian cult, The Family. Jeepers Creepers!
Ash dives into the life of Anne Hamilton-Byrne, and how she eventually became the leader of a yoga/LSD/baby-napping/Children of the Corn cult. Born Evelyn Edwards, Anne grew up poor and spent time in orphanages in rich neighborhoods as a child. Seeing how the upperclass lived, she always knew that she wanted a piece of the pie. When Evelyn's first husband died, she reinvented herself as a glamorous yoga teacher and medium named Anne Hamilton. Preaching a mishmash of Christianity, Eastern mysticism and apocalyptic prophecy, she convinced hundreds that she was Jesus, using large quantities of LSD on her members and herself. One day she had a vision that the world was going to end in some horrific way and that she needed to start a master race of children who would be left to re-educate what's left of the world. So she basically began stealing babies and made them all look alike, with the same clothes, haircuts and bleached blonde hair. Likely going for a Von Trapp family vibe, she gave them more of a Children of the Corn look. And things only get more insane and tragic from there.... it's not just yoga you guys!!
