    Hunter Biden, Syria, Panama Canal and space junk Dec 02, 2024

    U.S. President Joe Biden has pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, having previously said he would stay out of legal proceedings against him. The Syrian government and Russia have carried out air strikes in northwestern Syria as President Bashar al-Assad vowed to crush insurgents who swept into the city of Aleppo. Urgent action is needed to help manage the rapid increase in satellites and space junk above Earth. And as the Panama Canal suffers because of severe drought, a plan for a major dam to help water supplies faces local opposition.

    Trump's Treasury pick, COP backlash and Australia’s teen social media ban Nov 25, 2024

    Markets have reacted positively to President-elect Donald Trump selecting Scott Bessent as his pick for U.S. Treasury secretary. Three people have been arrested in the UAE in connection with the alleged murder of an Israeli citizen. Countries at the COP29 summit in Baku adopted a $300 billion a year global finance target to help poorer nations cope with impacts of climate change but the deal has been described as “woefully insufficient” by its intended recipients. Australia’s push to ban social media for teenagers is facing a critical week as it looks to introduce some of the toughest controls imposed by any country to date.
