Remember The Game? Retro Gaming Podcast

Comedian Adam Blank hosts “Remember The Game?”, a retro gaming podcast. Each week, Adam and his guest will select a video game that they grew up playing, and spend time reminiscing about what they loved (or hated) about it. Not intended to be a history lesson, “Remember The Game?” is more like a conversation you’d overhear on the playground as a kid. The discussions are all over the place, and are guaranteed to fill you with that warm, nostalgic feeling. (Or rage, like you felt with the underwater level in the original Ninja Turtles game). Either way, it’s gonna be fun! New episodes every Wednesday!

And before we start tearing this up (see what I did there?), I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!

This week we talk about people that ruin Monopoly with house rules. Can Stage Tour revive couch co-op? And what does Adam think of Star Wars: Galactic Racer?

Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 "3rd games": Halo 3, Bioshock: Infinite, and Mass Effect 3.

I can't believe it's happening. We're finally, FINALLY, talking Oblivion. I've been chipping away at this behemoth for 9 months and I'm ready to spill my guts.

I'll warn you right now, if you're looking for a deep dive into The Elder Scrolls, this isn't the show for you. I've never played this game before, so I dropped over 40 hours into a run, tried to do everything, realized it was impossible, saved the world, and now I want to both praise and vent about this game at the same time. I think I like it more than Skyrim, but boy there were a couple things that drove me insane (looking at YOU, vampirism!)

My fellow vampire, Mark McCue, joins me this week. He just finished his first playthrough of Oblivion as well, and we're both excited to sound off about our favourite quests, points int he storm, items, and the debuts (aside from craving blood) that drove us crazy. I enjoyed this episode quite a bit and I hope y'all enjoy listening to a pair of noobs rant about this massive game as much as we did ranting about it.

And before we close some portals, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!

This week someone asks if gaming media has gotten too negative? What games have disappointed me the most in recent memory? And with everyone talking about Wolverine, what superhero needs their own game next??

Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Bethesda games: Morrowind, Starfield, and Fallout 3.

I know, I know. This game isn't "retro". But it's almost 10 years old, the new season of South Park is right around the corner, and quite frankly, it's an awesome game. This week we're talking South Park: The Fractured But Whole.

This one's a sequel to (the also phenomenal) Stick of Truth. Instead of classic turn-based RPG combat, it's a tactical game. Instead of Lord of the Rings, the kids are playing superheroes. Both games are hilarious and like playing a season of the show. If you're a South Park fan, these are 100% must-plays.

The Human Kite to my Professor Chaos, my buddy Andre, is my guest this week. We had a great time breaking down all the superhero alter egos and laughing at the easter eggs in this one. A lot of spoilers, but if you haven't played these, I hope this episode convinces you to get off your wallet. You get to fight red wine drunk Randy for fuck sakes.

And before we head on down to South Park, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!

This week someone asks how I write my podcast notes, we talk about Star Wars Zero Company, and is it cheating to use a walkthrough??

Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 retro South Park games: South Park (N64/PS1), Chef's Luv Shack, and South Park Rally.

Another week, another wrapped up trilogy at RTG Industries. This week we're talking the final game in the Super Mario Land trilogy on Game Boy, Wario Land. It has almost nothing to do with Mario or Super Mario Land, but that's ok. It's still pretty sweet. And it's our first chance to play as Wario!! My buddy and Game Boy guru Patrick joins me this week to talking stealing from pirates and eating garlic.

And before we start ramming into things, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!

This week someone asks if I'm going to start reviewing more DLC on the show after the Bioshock episode last week. What are some good coop games for couples to play together? And what franchise would I take from one developer and give to another?

Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Wario titles": Master of Disguise, Wario's Woods, and Wario Land (Virtual Boy).

It's time to finish off the Bioshock trilogy here at RTG Industries. Unlike the underwater setting of the first 2 games, Bioshock Infinite takes the skies. You play as Booker DeWitt and try to save the mysterious Elizabeth from a crazy old man, a bunch of crazy younger people, and a giant robot bird. If it sounds weird, you just haven't played enough Bioshock.

And before we start tearing this up (see what I did there?), I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!

This week we talk about what could possibly incentivize people to buy a PlayStation 7 down the road? What do we think about the Simpsons: Hit & Run rumours?? And should PlayStation offer physical game collectors free upgrades to digital copies, like Xbox is seemingly planning to do??

Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 "3rd games": Halo 3, Gears of War 3, and Mass Effect 3.

I've made it a goal to cover as many Mega Man games as I can on this podcast before I inevitably get cancelled, and we're crossing another off the list this week with the classic Mega Man 5. It isn't my personal favourite NES Mega Man game, but I don't think any of them are bad by any means. And this one introduces the legend him(her?)self: Beat the bird!!

The Dr. Light to my Dr. Wily, Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk Mega Manning. We both agree that this might not be the strongest entry in the series, but it doesn't mean we don't love it. Dan's fav robot master is in this one, Beat's hanging around, and we get what might be the best story in NES Mega Man history.

And before we investigate Proto Man, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!

This week someone asks me if I think most gaming could end up on mobile devices via cloud streaming at some point? What are some of the top games laying around in my backlog? And if I could develop a video game, what would I make??

Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 "5th games": Elder Scrolls V, Resident Evil 5, and Final Fantasy V.

And you can check out Captain N's Retrotopia Podcast here:

    https://retrotopiapodcast.podbean.com/

In May we hosted the inaugural RTG Royal Rumpoll. 30 games entered, 1 survived, and Actraiser was that 1. I've always considered this the biggest gap in my SNES resume, and now that I've rolled credits, you can consider said gap filled.

If you haven't played it, Actraiser is 50% action platformer, 50% city-builder. You play as a God(ish) person, vanquishing monsters and rebuilding civilizations. This game often pops up on greatest SNES game of all-time lists and while I think it's a little archaic, for an early SNES title it's shockingly good.

Captain N of the Retrotopia podcast joins me this week to talk city building and monster slaying, but unlike our last episode talking about this stuff (Dark Cloud, episode 251), Angry Adam doesn't show up this time around.

And before we rebuild civilization, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro!

This week someone asks I think subscription services are still the future of gaming. Will the PS6 and next Xbox cling on to the previous generation like the PS5/Series X did? And will I ever play Crimson Desert??

Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 of the holes in my SNES resume: Sunset Riders, Terranigma, and Illusion of Gaia.
