    WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT (1988) – REEL CHAT 8.0 Feb 19, 2015
    Show notes

roger rabbitWelcome to Episode 8 of “Reel Chat” – a podcast that promises week in, week out – the “Reel World as we know it.”

On this eighth installment of the “Vintage Vault” retrospective series, we look at 1988’s “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” – and what a bloody great gem of a forgotten film this is! Host Adam Stolfo is joined by co-host Brose Avard, Andrew McCaskill and the returning Michael Hadjion to look in depth at what can only be described as a timeless classic. But even if you feel that this film is now beyond you, and feel like skipping it in preparation for our big 2015 Oscars special next week… um… DON’T!

“Reel Chat” gets a little cruder than usual, as we discuss all the film’s hidden sexual innuendo, it’s many jokes and gags, it’s legacy, and it’s overall lasting impression. Andrew goes into the snake pit as the only member of the team who doesn’t hold the film in high regard, which is always great for some banter. But you’ll be surprised how much he actually comes around during the discussion.

As usual, we also look in depth at key scenes, the film’s cast and crew, it’s jazzy and catchy score, and much, much more! Now, is that 13 “Back To The Future” references we count…?

    • Adam classifies this episode as being the one in which Reel Chat finds it’s “groove” – after a lot of experimenting in the first 4 episodes.

    COMMANDO (1985) – REEL CHAT 4.0 Jan 22, 2015
    Show notes

Let’s party! Welcome to Episode 4 of “Reel Chat”, a brand new and exciting movies podcast devoted to the “Reel World as we know it”.

On this fourth Vintage Vault installment, host (and huge Schwarzenegger fan) Adam Stolfo is joined by a pumped up Brose Avard, Andrew McCaskill and Matthew O’Neill to look at one of the most satisfying guilty pleasures in the history of action cinema – 1985’s “Commando”.

Brose is in fine form here, showing plenty of love to a film he obviously holds in high regard. In what happens to be its 30th anniversary, we look in-depth at the film’s cast, it’s filmmakers, the film’s DVD and Blu-ray release, it’s “manic” musical score (complete with steel drums and plenty of 80s saxophone), the questionable sexuality of “memorable villain” Bennett, as well as Brose’s run in with the Aussie actor himself, Vernon Wells, at San Diego Comic-Con in 2009.

    • As part of the initial 8 pilot episodes in Reel Chat’s first season, Adam let his team choose a movie for the show to cover. This episode was Brose’s choice.
    • This episode has a strange audio “inclusion” that was recorded at a later date. It’s the part where Brose is talking about the newly released Hot Toys “John Matrix” collectible. To this day, Adam is perplexed that he tried to pass off this audio snippet as being recorded with the rest of the episode. #RookieError

On this third installment of the “Vintage Vault”, host Adam Stolfo is once again joined by co-host Brose Avard, a very proud and excitable Andrew McCaskill, as well as the returning Matthew O’Neill, to look in depth at one of the darkest and most respected thrillers of the mid 90s – director David Fincher’s “Seven”… or “Se7en”.

Learn all about the film’s legacy and ongoing failure to claim the respect it so rightly deserves. Learn about it’s huge influence on various horror and thriller movies that followed. And learn about the film’s planned alternate endings, with New Line Cinema getting cold feet and subsequently opting for a compromise ending.

    GHOSTBUSTERS (1984) – REEL CHAT 1.0 Jan 01, 2015
    Show notes

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to the first official episode of “Reel Chat”, a new and exciting movies podcast that promises week in, week out – the “Reel World as we know it”.

On this premiere “Vintage Vault” episode, host Adam Stolfo is joined by co-host Brose Avard, Andrew McCaskill and Stuart Wilson to discuss one of the best and most beloved comedies of the 80s – 1984’s “Ghostbusters”.

Hear about Brose’s run-in (and 20 minute chat) with actor Ernie Hudson in 2009, Adam and Brose’s Ghostbusters location tour in New York City (where they met) in 2008, as well as the age-old question of how much the Proton Packs would actually cost if manufactured in real life.

We also look in-depth at the film’s amazing cast and filmmakers, it’s critical reception, the film’s various DVD and Blu-ray releases, the film’s music and 2 soundtrack releases, as well as the rise of Ghostbusters collectible/toy tie-ins for it’s all important 30th anniversary.

    EPISODE TRIVIA

    • No. of “Back To The Future” references: 2
    • Notable for introducing the “Reel Chat” episode format for which a movie is retrospectively reviewed. This has only been tweaked moderately since.
    • Adam and Brose met in New York in 2008 and ventured out to visit a number of real world locations from “Ghostbusters”. This is why this film was chosen for Episode 1.0.
    • The cinematography and trivia sections are much closer to the end of the episode than they ended up being in subsequent episodes.
    • Despite being the first, Adam classifies this as one “Reel Chat’s” worst episodes – sound quality wise anyway. This was mainly due to Adam’s microphone level not being at an optimum level – and he’s the host! Epic fail! Ah, the joys of first episodes.
    • The movie’s theatrical trailer being played at the beginning of an episode has its first appearance here. However, Adam regrets using a 30th Anniversary re-release trailer of “Ghostbusters” instead of it’s original 1984 trailer.
    • Stuart was brought in at the eleventh hour to replace Matt on this episode.

    EPISODE TRIVIA

    • No. of “Back To The Future” references: 5
    • The pilot episode recorded in August of 2014.
    • Notable for introducing segments and concepts that were still part of “Reel Chat” to its final episode.
    • Notable also for introducing the rebooted sequel concept that Hollywood has already started implementing.
    • One of only two “Reel Chat” episodes to feature just the duo of Adam and Brose (the other being Episode 19.0).
    • The .0 in the episode titles is a gag and reference to the Terminator’s vision in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” in which he scans – “Human Casualties 0.0”. Only on one occasion have we seen a Reel Chat .5 (Episode 79.5).
