Koya Webb: Your Rituals Create Your Results Jan 02, 2020
    Show notes

Why is a morning routine important? How do you start one and what do you include? Is it just a morning meditation or can your routine include meditation, breakfast, going to the gym, journaling, etc.? In today’s episode, we’re kicking off 2020 with our Results NOT Resolutions series and I’ve invited Koya Webb, founder of Get Loved Up, an international lifestyle community and Yoga School, and author of Let Your Fears Make You Fierce, to share how she uses rituals to manifest results in her life. Koya is an internationally recognized yoga teacher, celebrity holistic health coach, author, speaker and vegan activist whose core mission is to promote daily self-care, oneness and eco-friendly living to combat some of the world’s biggest challenges including mental health, social injustices and global warming. Part of Koya’s message is if you’re serious about getting results and manifesting what it is you say you want, then you have to commit. You have to consistently –day-in, day-out – show up and do the work. Now, let’s dive in as Koya and I discuss this and more! This episode is brought to you by Purpose 2 Platform, my hands on business accelerator that gives spirit-led women the strategy to create more impact, influence and income with integrity. Schedule a call to see if I’m the coach for you! Rituals Create Your Results Takeaways Gratitude is the number one key to keeping us in alignment with love. – Koya Webb Expressing gratitude takes you out of victim mentality and puts you into that creator mentality. – Koya Webb Whenever you find yourself in any type of emotion that’s not love, happiness, joy or abundance, that’s fear. – Koya Webb Fear is feedback. When fear comes up, it’s telling you there’s a place within you that needs more love and attention. – Koya Webb I want you to see the person who offended you on a stage, for example, and imagine a bunch of good things happening to them. – Koya Webb When I know better, I have to do better and if I don’t, then I’m part of the problem. – Koya Webb Do you have a morning routine? Do you practice gratitude? One of the big hesitations people have around setting a routine is that they won’t commit to it every day. Discipline is not a punishment and it’s not perfection. If you’re just starting out, try to do one thing to process your emotions – practice gratitude, journaling, going for a walk, meditating, and so on. Do one thing that brings you joy and then build on it. Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions And with that, let’s dig into Koya’s responses to our Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions. Define Success: “Success is living in the vibration of love in everything that I do.” Define Wealth in 3 Words or Less: “Abundance in love.” One Book that Has Redefined How You See Wealth: Abundance Now by Lisa Nichols Fill-in the Blanks … “My name is ___ and the truth about wealth is ___”: “My name is Koya and the truth about wealth is it’s available at all times and in all places.” LINKS: To advertise on the podcast: http://www.patricewashington.com/podcastads Become an Official Purpose Chaser: http://www.iamapurposechaser.com Join Patrice’s Pod Club: http://www.patricespodclub.com To check out ALL of our past guests + episodes: http://www.patricewashington.com/Listen If you have questions about booking Patrice or sponsoring the podcast, email us at info@seekwisdomfindwealth.com. Growing Over Winning: A Recap of 2019 Dec 26, 2019
    Show notes

If you’re feeling like you’ve missed the mark this year or you didn’t accomplish everything you wanted to, then this episode is for you. This week we’re shifting how we reflect on wins and accomplishments, and celebrating the process and steps to those wins just as much as the wins themselves. Many of us look to Instagram or to our Facebook memories to try to piece together the wins and milestones of the year, but we often forget the small steps and work that was needed to achieve those things. I use journaling, not only as a powerful manifestation tool, but also as a reminder of the process to whatever goal I’ve set for myself. Journaling, for me, is not about keeping a diary, it’s about understanding how to unlock more of the things I say I want and heal the things that come up in the process. This episode is brought to you by Rachel Luna and the Faith Activated Journaling Experience, which is a year-long experience that teaches you how to stop wasting your time and so you can manifest MASSIVE results through journaling. You’ll discover how to unlock your blessings, author the life of your dreams and create rapid results in just 5 minutes a day. If you want to up level your game and GROW in the 6 pillars of Wealth, check out Faith Activated by going to PatriceWashington.com/FaithActivated. Growing Over Winning Takeaways Journaling gives me an accurate depiction of my growth or lack thereof. – Patrice Washington You don’t have to be completely out of debt to acknowledge the win of shifting your money mindset. – Patrice Washington You don’t have to drop 100 pounds to acknowledge that you’ve been plant-based for the last five days and feel great. – Patrice Washington I was settling for what had been good – that comfort zone – instead of going after what God was showing me. – Patrice Washington The growth is in the mindset. It’s not something I can check off my list. It’s who I’ve become in the process. – Patrice Washington Give yourself grace and acknowledge your growth. – Patrice Washington As you move into 2020, I encourage you to celebrate your wins – big and small – and reflect on your growth. You’re moving forward, so celebrate it. If you’re stuck thinking, “It’s never good enough,” you’re going to stay stuck another year, and that’s not what I want for you. So bask in the glory of your wins and share them with us! Stop Romanticizing Relationships Dec 19, 2019
    Show notes

Have you ever been in a relationship with someone – personal or professional – where the connection doesn’t feel fully aligned, and it makes you a little uneasy, but you ignore it? In most cases, we figure it’s just us, right? Or, that we’re merely reading too much into a given situation or exchange. Well, this week I’m here to tell you: Don’t ignore those gut feelings you have and stop romanticizing relationships – current and expired ones. For me, this topic hits close to home because I recently tried to justify accepting behavior that was not in alignment with my core values. It was one of those, “Well, I know that’s how so-and-so treats other people, but with me, it’s different.” Reality is, IT’S NOT! It’s easy to romanticize and believe that it is, but the thing is, their treatment of others is a direct reflection of who they are and you are not exempt from experiencing this. Join me as I share more on this topic and provide actionable steps you can take to untie and end relationships that are out of integrity with your values. Podcasts are one of the fasting growing mediums for reaching an ideal audience – an audience that’s really listening. So when it comes to ads, you can rest assured they’re not tuning out the noise like they do when radio commercials come on. If you’re a solopreneur and/or small business owner who needs help amplifying your message and reaching the masses, we’re accepting podcast ad applications! How much do you REALLY know about investing in the stock market? Honestly, do your eyes glaze over as you hear words like valuation, dividend, index fund and margin? Listen, I know the stock market can be overwhelming, even for those who know the basics, so that’s why I’ve invited Tela Holcomb, creator of Trade Your 9-to-5™, to put stocks and investments into plain English. After Tela’s corporate career ended abruptly in 2012, it forced her to use the stock market knowledge she had to make a living – and boy did she. By 2013, just eight months after being fired from her good-paying job, she’d doubled her retirement account and found the key to financial freedom in the stock market. In today’s episode, Tela shares her top investing tips. We discuss the difference between investing and trading, what an average day looks like for her and how she’s using her stock market knowledge to help others achieve financial freedom and leave their 9-to-5. Remember, you or someone you know can showcase their product or service on the podcast! Podcasts are one of the fasting growing mediums for reaching your ideal audience. Jason Vitug: You Only Live Once Nov 28, 2019
    Show notes

Are you living your best life? Sadly, most people aren’t because they’re in a constant cycle of overconsumption and indebtedness, and mindlessly spending on things that don’t add value to their life or purpose. Today’s guest was once in that exact spot. Jason Vitug, author of You Only Live Once, remembers how the path to success was drilled into him growing up. It’s the same path we’re all told to follow – graduate high school, go to college, get a job, get a car, get a promotion, buy a house – pretty standard, and oftentimes simply achieving these things doesn’t make us happy. For Jason, he started on this path and then began to question it, asking, “When do I actually become happy?” It’s this realization coupled with the concept of YOLO in reverse that became the topic for his book. In You Only Live Once, Jason applies YOLO to personal finance and discovers it’s not about instant gratification, but rather about long-term satisfaction. Listen in and learn how you can shift your money mindset and experience YOLO today and for years to come. This episode is brought to you by Purpose 2 Platform, a 20-week business accelerator and mentorship program that will get you clear on HOW to package your PURPOSE, communicate your PROMISE to your ideal audience, choose the best PLATFORM for your personality and lifestyle and create a PREMIUM offer. Through this program, you’ll receive accountability and support in a dynamic community designed so you can finally make progress and be ready before you even need to pull the trigger on what’s no longer serving you. Book a Breakthrough Call today at https://patricewashington.com/purpose2platform/ You Only Live Once Takeaways I was income stable, but still financially inept. – Jason Vitug You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough. – Mae West NO should stand for New Opportunity because the moment you say NO to something, you open yourself up to something greater. – Jason Vitug Money isn’t everything, but money permeates every aspect of our life. – Jason Vitug If we don’t tell our money where to go, then we’ll always wonder where it went. – Jason Vitug Money is a tool. But as with any tool, if we lack the skill to use it, it won’t benefit us much. If you purchase a TV for $600 and you make $10/hour, that TV now represents 60 hours of your life. Think about that. – Jason Vitug When it comes to living your best life, where are you? Are you mindlessly spending money on things that don’t add value to your life or purpose? What can you do going forward to course-correct? Drop a comment below and let us know. Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions And with that, let’s dig into Jason’s responses to our Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions. Connie Hill Johnson: Prepare for the Role Reversal Nov 21, 2019
    Show notes

What does your parents’ health have to do with Redefining Wealth? Well, more than you might think. You see, if you’re like many of us in the “sandwich generation” – the place where you’re raising children while also caring for your parents – then you know your parents’ health can affect your lifestyle and financial independence just as much as it does theirs. Now, this has been something I’ve experienced myself, and it’s something Connie Hill Johnson, owner of a Visiting Angles franchise in Cleveland, Ohio, witnesses on a day-to-day basis. As you might imagine, she gets a front-row seat to the challenges senior citizens face and the struggles their caretakers and families battle with when things like long-term care, power of attorney and last rites aren’t discussed or prepared for in advance. Tune in as Connie shares critical steps in preparing for your parents’ future care. We cover everything from how to start the role reversal conversation to getting your siblings on the same page. We also talk about preparing your finances so caring for your parents doesn’t end up being a burden. Connie also shares several eye-opening ways to have the conversation (even when your parents don’t want to talk). They simply may be uncomfortable talking about their mortality. – Connie Hill Johnson In our society, growing old isn’t , but it’s life. – Connie Hill Johnson Make no assumptions. Spiritual Malnutrition: Are You Choosing to Starve? Nov 14, 2019
    Show notes

What are you feeding your spirit? Seriously, what are we putting into our bodies that’s positioning us to actually get what we say we want? The Holy Spirit placed so many lessons on my heart as I was locked away in a hotel room, snacking and working on my next book. It was like a blaring alarm went off, and at that moment, I realized I wasn’t just snacking physically. I was snacking spiritually, too. You see, I’d do some drive-by faith by getting in a devotional here or there. Vibe to some gospel music at the gym or drop a “preach, sis, preach” on a faith-based meme on social media, all the while convincing myself it was enough. But the truth is, I was snacking. And if snacking alone is not enough to nourish our bodies, how is it ever enough to feed our spirits? It’s not. I want you to know spiritual malnutrition is a serious condition that will leave you ready to pop off over insignificant things and incapable of living in the fullness of what you’re asking for, among other things. That’s why we must choose to make time to nourish our spirits on a daily basis. Now, have you ever thought to yourself, “I just need more hours in the day?” I know I have, so when I meet women with full lives and full plates who seem to do SO MUCH with joy, peace, style, grace and ease, I'm always quick to ask them the secret. When I met, Tina Black, a Paul Mitchell school owner, salon owner, author, podcaster, wife and mother how she does it all, she reminded me, “It's not about time management, it's about priority management.” Tina doesn't believe in letting life just happen, she believes in planning. She created BE A PLANNER to help us all get ready for our best decade ever! Be a Planner teaches you how to plan your quarter, month, week and day down to a tee. It helps you think through what you should be doing versus what you should be delegating. Success Leaves Clues, Purpose Chasers, and for just $30 for a year-long planner, I'm willing to see how much of what has helped Tina create her amazing success can be applied to my life for sure. To pick up your copy of “Be A Planner,” head to TinaBlack.net/SHOP. And let’s plan our way into a purposeful 2020 and beyond. Nourishing your spirit surely deserves a bullet on your daily to-do list just as much as the other things in your life, so plan it into your day. Spiritual Takeaways You can’t outwork a bad spiritual diet. There’s no need in wishing, hoping and praying for things you’re not spiritually strong enough to accept, embrace, hold, maintain and sustain. Faith is about believing in something greater, so if you say you believe in something, then you must make time to practice it. Don’t get so far it this wealth-building, business-building, brand-building and people-pleasing that now you think you can snack your way to spiritual victory. Spirituality is not a one-size-fits-forever thing. What you feed your spirit today may not be enough to nourish the vision that God has for you tomorrow. Let us know your biggest takeaway from this episode in the comments section. What changes are you willing to make to your spiritual diet? Committed to teaching women how to care for and preserve their mind, body and spirit, she understands that women are pushed to the limit in their careers, family and everyday lives. Therefore, the need for women to restore themselves by creating daily rituals and spiritual practices is vital. As a former high school educator and executive director to the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, Brandi spent the majority of her career serving children and families within the United States and around the globe. Answering her life calling as a wellness teacher, Brandi launched Beyond Her – a holistic lifestyle brand helping women of color reconnect to their internal power to heal and transform their mind, body and spirit. The Process of Healing In order to write Breakthrough Sold Separately, Brandi had to go through the process of healing herself first. Tune into the podcast to hear about Brandi’s realization and how she was able to heal. The Backstory on Breakthrough Sold Separately Brandi opens the book by talking about her father, Steve Harvey, releasing her from her position as Executive Director of the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation. And I asked her if before that happened she’d been in what I’d call a boat of mediocrity. She said this: “I was. I knew that I didn’t want to be there. You know what it’s like when you don’t want to be doing something, right? You’re planning trips while at work, you’ve got Amazon open and you’re doing everything that’s not your job.” Brandi then recalled how she had lost the spark she’d once had for the role and knew it was time to leave. “I was stuck in a position that was not my vision. It was somebody else’s vision, and I knew God was calling me higher.” – Brandi Harvey Now, Brandi also spoke candidly about how she received notice that she’d been fired. Listen now so you can hear all about it in her words. The Mountaintop Experience After receiving notice that she’d been terminated, Brandi didn’t know what she was going to do, but thought it might be time to write a book. “I was stuck on what to write about,” Brandi said, “and thought my breakthrough would come with a cocktail on the beach. God had other plans, and instead of the beach, I ended up in Boone, North Carolina on a silent retreat.” After five days in silence, Brandi emerged with a eureka moment and realized it wasn’t just about writing a book – well, yes, that was part of it – but there was more God was calling her to do. The Process of Transformation “So often we attach ourselves to positions because we want to be validated by people.” – Brandi Harvey For years, Brandi didn’t have a close relationship with her father. Instead, she was clinging to her position because it provided a closeness she thought she needed. “Me being fired,” she says, “was the best thing that could have happened for our relationship because it freed me from the need to want him to accept me. When I was working for him, I kept trying to prove myself, thinking that if I could win him over, he’d love me more.” “I had to learn that I had to start showing up for myself.” – Brandi Harvey The thing is this: We owe ourselves silence because through silence our goals become clear. And when we’re clear on our purpose and what we’re here to do, everything shifts. When we surrender, all bets are off, and we do what we’re here to do. Dr. Joy Harden Bradford: The Truth About Therapy Oct 24, 2019
    Show notes

Last week we touched on mental illness, and this week we’re talking about mental health and how to preserve it because it really is so critical to your overall well-being. Mental health plays a part in your relationships, finances and wealth, and in your faith too. It’s also part of the first pillar of Redefining Wealth. Typically when I talk about the FIT pillar, people assume I’m talking about being physically fit, and although that is a part of the pillar, being mentally fit is often more important. In today’s episode, I sit down with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, founder of Therapy for Black Girls and a licensed psychologist in Atlanta, as we unpack mental health. Here, we discuss the basics of mental health and when it’s best to see a therapist and what you can expect from the experience. You'll have accountability and support in a dynamic community so you can finally make progress and be ready before you even need to pull that trigger on what's no longer serving you. Book a Breakthrough Call today at Purpose 2 Platform.com. About Dr. Joy Harden Bradford Dr. Joy is a licensed psychologist in the state of Georgia. Her specialty includes working with Black women in both individual and couples counseling. Her primary areas of interest include break-up and divorce recovery, depression, work-life balance, relationship skills and self-esteem improvement. She also has considerable knowledge in working with undergraduate and graduate students in areas including procrastination, stress management, dissertation/thesis support and career development. Dr. Joy created Therapy for Black Girls as an online space dedicated to encouraging the mental wellness of Black women and girls. So often the stigma surrounding mental health issues and therapy prevent Black women from taking the step of seeing a therapist. As such, Dr. Joy developed the space to present mental health topics in a way that feels more accessible and relevant. What Is Mental Health? Mental health is comparable to our physical health – it’s something we all have. So when we get check-ups, have blood work done, exercise and eat right, we’re doing things to take care of ourselves physically. Mental health, on the other hand, often gets forgotten because many people don’t realize that it’s also something they need to take care of. “Mental health encompasses our emotions and how we experience things. It often feels intangible, but is very important in our lives.” – Dr. Joy Historically, the African American culture has been one where you couldn’t or shouldn’t share certain types of information with other people. Reasoning for this often meant it was for survival purposes or for life, work or social opportunities in business or in the community. And while it made sense back then, now we’ve come to realize that leaving things bottled up inside is not healthy. Having said that, therapy is still difficult for a lot of people. People still struggle with the idea of sharing about their childhood and family and that’s often because they’ve been raised to not talk about those things. What is Mental Illness? Mental illness is a diagnosed psychiatric condition. This can be any conditions such as a major depressive disorder, an anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. With any of these there are a specific set of symptoms that impact your life in significant ways – that’s why they’re classified as a mental illness. Therapy for general things, however, is usually not a full-blown mental illness. So if you’re feeling anxious about a new job or an upcoming interview that’s not necessarily an anxiety disorder. Another example is if you want to be more assertive in your relationships, again, not necessarily a mental illness, but something you can certainly see a therapist for. Is It Time to Find a Therapist? Therapy is useful when dealing with life issues – from anxiety about a new job to how you show up or want to show up in your relationships. So how do you know when it’s the right time to talk to a therapist versus praying or talking to your girlfriends? According to Dr. Joy, there’s nothing wrong with praying, talking to your girlfriends and talking to a therapist. Usually though, many people put off talking with a therapist because they think therapy is something you only do in a crisis. But the reality is you can be talking with a therapist long before any crisis happens. “Therapy isn’t always for a crisis. Oftentimes, if you talk to a therapist in those early stages, you can prevent something from escalating.” – Dr. Joy So, are you doing yourself a disservice by not making therapy a part of your lifestyle? Tune in to the podcast to find out with Dr. Joy says. How to Choose the Right Therapist According to Dr. Joy, the “right therapist” is someone you feel comfortable discussing personal, often private topics with. These are sometimes things you haven’t ever shared with anyone – not your mother, spouse or best friends. So it’s going to be very important for you to trust the person with that information. You also want to make sure to find someone who has specific expertise in working with the condition or concern you’re coming to them with. For instance, if you have an eating disorder, you’d want to look for someone who has expertise in that area or someone who has done additional training in eating disorders. This way you know you’re going to someone who has the best chance of treating you. “At its core, a therapeutic relationship is like any other relationship in your life, except that you’re not hanging out after the session.” – Dr. Joy Now, Dr. Joy shared some eye-opening insight about finding the right therapist that you’ll have to tune in to catch, but in the meantime, I’ll leave you with this valuable nugget: When choosing a therapist, the biggest thing is feeling 100% comfortable and being able to trust them. If you think you need support or you have questions about therapy, please visit Dr. Joy’s site, Therapy for Black Girls – it’s an incredible resource.
