    #849: Generation Z Mar 07, 2025
    Show notes

Have you heard about Generation Z? No, it’s not a new boy band. It’s a label applied to those born between 1997 and 2012.
Many people look at today’s Generation Z as media-obsessed teenagers who are lazy, cynical, and unambitious. But this stereotyping fails to reveal the clever, creative, and compassionate way these teens are influencing their communities.
Many times, they simply haven’t been inspired to set goals and achieve their dreams. Sometimes they simply haven’t had good role models to push them forward.
Are you inspiring your son to achieve worthwhile goals?
While it’s commendable to be a success in sports and academics, it’s even more important that your son follow the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind.

    #848: Run the Race Mar 06, 2025
    Show notes

Do you like to run? Most people don’t. To excel, the sport requires training, endurance, and determination.
In some ways, parenting is a lot like running a race. But the parenting race is more similar to a marathon than a sprint.
When our boys are young, it feels like we’re providing constant instruction and correction. We wonder, “Will this ever end?”
But before you know it, you’ve rounded the corner and face the teen years. You encounter new hurdles, attitudes, and challenges, weariness, discouragement.
Regardless of where you’re at in the parenting race, don’t quit! Because the Lord entrusted you with training your son, He will provide the strength to victoriously finish the race!

    #847: Searching for Wisdom Mar 05, 2025
    Show notes

When’s the last time you went on a scavenger hunt?
Well, you know, they are making a comeback. Teenagers, especially, like the competitive aspect of searching for and finding a bunch of weird objects . . . all in the fastest time possible.
Searching for plastic flamingos is hilarious, but don’t forget to teach your son about the importance of searching for wisdom in God’s Word.
More than ever, today’s secular culture tells boys that life is all about fun and pleasure.
The Bible has a different perspective. It tells us that our ultimate goal is to worship the Lord and to serve Him.
Sounds easy enough . . . but it isn’t. That’s why it’s vital that we daily search the Scriptures for wisdom and instruction.
Help boys find wisdom along life’s journey. Learn more at Trail Life USA or RaisingGodlyBoys.com.

#846: Marriage is Under Attack Mar 04, 2025
    Show notes

You know, the U.S. Census Bureau reports that only 18% of American homes consist of a mother, father, and child. That’s an incredibly sad statistic.
It means that kids in over 100 million households don’t have the loving influence of either a mother or a father.
More often than not, the father is the one missing from the home. This leaves boys without a role model and without a father’s guidance and correction.
Whether or not your son has the benefit of godly influences within the home, it’s important to provide him qualified mentorship.
The more your son sees how a man of character acts, talks, and serves, the more he’ll want those same biblical values in his own life.

    #845: Teamwork Mar 03, 2025
    Show notes

Boys love football. Flag football is fun, but tackle football is an even bigger rush.
Quarterbacks and wide receivers get a lot of the glory, but football coaches are quick to point out that it takes an entire team to win a football game.
The same is true in parenting your son.
As a parent, you are certainly the most influential person in his life. But his teachers, athletic coaches, and friends also influence his thoughts and actions.
The question is: Are they influencing him to do right? Are they helping him to love the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind?
If you need some extra teammates to help support you in the game, check out Trail Life USA. where qualified mentors are helping boys learn character, adventure, and leadership.

    #844: Fatherly Affirmation Feb 28, 2025
    Show notes

Growing up, I never heard my dad say he was proud of me. It’s just something his generation didn’t do.
One day, when I was in my twenties, I was astonished when, from the pulpit, my dad mentioned how proud he was of me.
Six months later, he passed away. I’m so thankful I heard those life-giving words directly from him. But I realize now that I need to lean on my Heavenly Father to help me overcome my deep insecurities.
Don’t forget to give your son verbal affirmation. But more importantly, make sure you tell him about the only One who can affirm him deep in his soul– Jesus Christ.

#843: The Plague of Entitlement Feb 27, 2025
    Show notes

There’s a horrible plague sweeping across America. But it’s probably not the one you are thinking of.
This plague is attacking boys’ minds and destroying their ability to live healthy and productive lives.
    What is this plague?
    It’s the disease of entitlement.
More than ever, boys feel entitled to possessions and entertainment.
The tragedy of this mindset is that boys fail to understand that happiness isn’t found in the latest digital gadget or trendy amusement.
Don’t let the plague of entitlement infect your son. Teach him the value of hard work and contentment.
By investing time and attention in your son’s mental, social, and spiritual development, you’re setting him up for a healthy and successful life.

#842: Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus Feb 26, 2025
    Show notes

Kids live in a digital world.
Reliable research tells us that kids ages 8 to 12 spend an average of 4 to 8 hours a day staring at phones, TVs, and other devices.
The question is: What are they watching all those hours? Sure, some of it may be harmless. But much of what kids see online is sensual, crude, and violent.
Boys are especially influenced by what they see.
As a parent, it’s your responsibility to set limits on your son’s screen time. Make sure you also add filtering software to block out inappropriate material.
The best way to help your son succeed in life is by teaching him to turn his eyes upon Jesus. Doing this will help him guard his heart and mind.
Parenting isn’t easy. Fortunately, there’s help. Learn more at Trail Life USA or RaisingGodlyBoys.com.

#841: Whom Do You Call Feb 25, 2025
    Show notes

If you see someone having a heart attack, you call 911. If a water pipe breaks in your bathroom, you call a plumber.
But when your son won’t listen to you or when your son blatantly disobeys, what do you do?
Too often, we complain or vent our frustration to a friend. Or perhaps we think of a solution and take immediate steps to solve the problem.
But if you are wise, your first course of action should be to seek the Lord’s guidance in prayer. By bringing your worries, frustrations, and struggles to the Lord, He can provide you strength and help in time of need.
So when those parenting challenges come, seek Him, and He will direct your path.

    #840: Courage Over Fear Feb 24, 2025
    Show notes

On his first day of preschool my son peered into the classroom and said, “Dad, I don’t want to go in there.”
I dropped to one knee in front of him and put my hand on his shoulder. Meeting him eye-to-eye, I reminded him about the first time he had ridden a pony. At first, he had been scared of the horse. But he faced his fear, and had been so glad that he did.
With that memory in mind, my son walked confidently into the preschool classroom.
When your son is filled with insecurity, it’s time to get on his level. Eye to eye, physical touch, focused attention. Replace the fearful thoughts in his mind with reminders of how he is already the brave man that he needs to be.
