This conversation takes place between experienced judicial officers, civil legal advocates, and a mental health practitioner with deep experience in custody evaluation. We brought them together to discuss custody evaluation in the context of domestic violence, why that’s hard and necessary work, how to avoid assumptions in these cases, and how to raise expectations–as a judge—for evaluative practice in your community. While we have designed this series for judges, we hope and believe that all court stakeholders will benefit from learning about a safer and coordinated custody evaluation practices. This project was funded by the Office on Violence Against Women, Department of Justice.
