    Rob's Soapbox - O.J. Walked Too Nov 14, 2021
    Show notes

If you’ve spent any time listening to me, you know that I don’t suffer ignorance gladly, and perhaps only when it is combined with arrogance does it become more reprehensible.

A confident person is able to form an opinion, calmly make a case for it using facts, logic, and reason, and listen intently to those who are willing and interested in doing the same.

An arrogant person forms an opinion first and then seeks out those who agree with his conclusion to bolster his claims, without ever checking the veracity of what he’s being told or considering the motives of the speaker he has sought for validation. From there, armed with only the information he wants to believe, and with no interest or desire in hearing alternative views, he loudly repeats whatever surface-level talking points he can remember, and then quickly tries to demean or personally attack anyone who suggests there might be more to consider.

It is the latter group that populates, permeates, and for the most part, dominates society today, and certainly, this group controls entirely both sides of the media and social media as well.

Both sides of the political and social aisle have adopted the same tactics; find out first what their tribe thinks, and then formulate whatever story you have to in order to defend the thinking of your tribe. Using the same person as the obvious example would be as follows: If Donald Trump said it, then, as far as the right tribe is concerned it is true and/or it should be, so we shall support it. Meanwhile, the far left tribe is immediately certain that it is both a lie and it is dangerous and must be objected to. Clearly, this is ludicrous. Trump said and did a lot of great things, while also saying and doing a lot of very stupid and wrong things.

At this point, I have lost 90% of you, and that’s the problem. The idea that I suggested that Trump did anything well, made half of you laugh and scoff, and the idea that I posited his mistakes and blunders means I have no idea what I am talking about…and neither side has any interest in actually hearing the answer to the question “like what?” Some might scream it, but when an answer is presented, it is met with derision, personal attacks, and accusations that factual statements are lies.

This is playing out before our eyes in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, a man who is, depending on your tribe, either a racist, white supremacist, far-right extremist murderer, or an altruistic young man that we need more of in America who was just trying to help his community and, in the process was attacked and became the victim who ultimately prevailed through self-defense.

Neither is close to true, and nobody cares.

As the trial of Rittenhouse comes to a close, an endless parade of morons bombard the airwaves and social media with half-truths and provably untrue “explanations” as to why the trial is, or isn’t going their tribe’s way.

My current favorites are pro-Rittenhouse people who offer up one sentence hot takes like… “looks like he’s going to walk…what do you say now?” Right behind them are anti-Rittenhouse folks who have formed a conspiracy theory cocoon around themselves by making the judge the villain, and a racist himself.

Of course, most of the people offering up these opinions and explanations have not actually watched the trial nor read the transcripts, they’re just repeating what Tucker Carlson or the ladies from “The View,” tell them is happening.

I, on the other hand, have watched AND read every single minute, not just from the trial, but also, all of the pre-trial motions and decisions, and have absolutely no doubt about the events that transpired last summer, who is at fault, who is to blame, and what the legal ramifications will and should be. I am also blessed to have a deep understanding of how the law works, and a calm acceptance that the American justice system, like the nation itself, is the greatest on Earth, while also being far from perfect.

Rittenhouse was allowed by the judge to present a case of self-defense, which, under Wisconsin law, means that the prosecution must show either that he did not fear for his life (impossible under the circumstances) or that he provoked the attacks which led him to have to defend himself. The latter was the obvious path, and the prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger, botched it entirely. Binger, for the record, is the worst prosecutor I have ever seen in my life. Atrocious does not begin to properly describe how bad he is at his job, based on this trial. https://courses.lumenlearning.com/suny-criminallaw/chapter/5-2-self-defense/

It should have been quite easy to show that Rittenhouse, who was 17 at the time, had absolutely no business being in Kenosha in the wake of the Jacob Blake riots, other than to incite, provoke, and, if he was lucky, maybe kill a few people. It was proven under oath, contrary to the narrative we’ve been told, that he had not been asked, nor even welcomed to protect property, specifically, a business known as Car Source. Even if the owners of Car Source HAD asked for a militia to defend their property, it was certainly not Rittenhouse’s place to drive from Indiana and then brandish an AR-15, not to mention the fact that he left the property to hunt down…errr…I mean administer medical aid to people, a laughably asinine storyline, which even if true, should have been shot down with a simple “if you hadn’t been there in the first place, (a place you didn’t belong at all), and if you hadn’t left the Car Source property in the second place, you would have never been in fear of your life,” retort. Somehow, prosecutor Binger couldn’t land that plane. Unbelievable. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2021/11/09/kyle-rittenhouse-trial-prosecution-rests-defense-opens/6362457001/

It is true that the judge has ruled almost universally in favor of Rittenhouse’s team, but to assert that he has made it impossible to convict is ridiculous. While it would have been easier to prove his guilt had the judge allowed evidence to be presented which showed Rittenhouse’s clearly racist, violent-prone, and non-remorseful behavior before and after the night in question, it did not make it impossible. Nor does it justify the prosecutor getting scolded and lectured multiple times by the judge for appalling behavior and tactics. Not to mention, they over-reached from the jump by charging him with intentional homicide, forcing them to prove pre-meditation, which they were never going to be able to do, especially after the judge ruled that all previous behaviors were inadmissible. https://apnews.com/article/wisconsin-police-trials-gun-politics-kenosha-8cd887f731ace320bf945f9524ceb252

On the other side, I am not about to leap aboard the train of celebrities and athletes claiming that Rittenhouse was faking when he broke down on the witness stand last week, practically appearing to hyper-ventilate. Calling someone a liar is never an intelligent tactic when trying to make a point or win an argument.

Here is what is almost certainly going to happen this week:

    • Rittenhouse will be found not guilty on all of the charges that really matter. Ironically, he probably will be found guilty of illegal possession of a firearm, which under Wisconsin law actually voids your right to self-defense. But that doesn’t mean that the jury has to then convict him on the greater charges, and I don’t believe they will. It may end in a hung jury, but either way, Rittenhouse will be free by week’s end.
    • Riots will erupt both in Wisconsin and across the country, and when they do, look for myriad Rittenhouse copycats, emboldened by the verdict, to patrol the streets looking for hoodlums who will also be well-armed as a result of the decision of the jury. More killing will ensue.
    • Rittenhouse, himself, will head one of two directions; he may become the next George Zimmerman; a hero for the right-wing until he does so many embarrassing things that he can no longer be defended, or he may wind up in congress alongside Marjorie Taylor Greene and other lunatics that are driving the Republican Party into the same ditch that Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and her “squad” are sending the Democrats. This congressional stint of Rittenhouse’s will, of course, come after he does an hour-long sit down with Tucker Carlson and becomes a Fox News Contributor. https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/trayvon-martin-george-zimmerman/
    • President Biden will fail miserably in addressing this properly as he continues his march towards being the most unpopular President in American history, which seems to be his goal.
    • Conservatives, who like to paint themselves as aligned with law and order, will do as they did after the January 6 capitol insurrection and completely bail on and ignore law and order and align themselves with Rittenhouse, a vigilante who is aligned with the Proud Boys.

This brings us back to the consistent evolution of both political parties and their followers; ignore your core values when it is more important to find a way to justify the behavior and outcome that you desire.

So, when someone says, “looks like he’s going to walk…what do you say now?” I say this: O.J. walked too, and he should have based on the trial. Again, if you actually followed it, they absolutely did not prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, Simpson’s guilt. But no one with sense believes for one minute that he did not kill Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman. Rittenhouse is a murderer. He is not to be revered he is to be disgusted, and he certainly is not “just a dumb kid.” His resume is already quite full of all of the evidence we need to know what a cretin he is, and the fact that people are proudly aligning themselves with him is beyond disgusting…but then again, so is the society in general at this point.

Rob's Soapbox - Privilege? Ignorance? Racism? All of the above? Nov 07, 2021
    Show notes

It’s amazing how just one word can take a seemingly innocent question and turn it into, at best, an ignorant position of privilege, and at worst, complete and total racism.

In the aftermath of NFL Wide Receiver Henry Ruggs killing a woman and her dog while driving drunk in the early morning hours along the streets of Las Vegas at speeds as high as 156 MPH, a listener sent an email asking the following:

“After reading about Ruggs a couple days ago, and listening to what you reported to us all…it saddens me that the NFL doesn’t have professionals trained to work with these young…men coming into the NFL…could the lives of this girl and her dog have been saved if there was some sort of guidance given to Henry?”

In and of itself, it’s an innocuous question and a good one. The truth of the matter is, that the NFL does, and has for decades, held days-long orientations for rookies entering the league and recently, expanded their program to start mentoring college football players. The potential superstars are taught money management, the trappings of fame, how to stay out of trouble, and given the roadmap to prosperity, all of which is commendable considering so many of the young men who wind up in the NFL find themselves, suddenly, at the age 20-ish, millionaires. https://nflcommunications.com/Pages/NFL-Announces-Expanded-Rookie-Transition-Program.aspx

    https://frontofficesports.com/nfl-college-rookie-transition/

Sadly, no amount of “education,” will prevent the inevitability of life, as we see with our own eyes daily.

Had that been the end of the email, there’d be no story here, and no soapbox. Sadly, that wasn’t what the email said. Rather it read as follows in its entirety:

“After reading about Ruggs a couple days ago, and listening to what you reported to us all today, It saddens me that the NFL doesn’t have professionals trained to work with these young black men coming into the NFL. Maybe I’m wrong and there is, but if not could the lives of this girl and her dog have been saved if there was some sort of guidance given to Henry? Her family and all that were involved in the accident are grieving. I don’t know much about Henry or how his upbringing was, I just wonder if all this could have been avoided if there were things put in place to help men like Ruggs who recently signed million dollar plus contracts.”

To put it kindly: What the F%*K you say?

Full disclosure; I’m married to a black woman and freely admit that issues of race are a hot button for me. In fact, the RAD Radio show got this email on Thursday, and I intentionally ignored it to give myself time to ruminate on it and make sure I wasn’t overreacting to it. By Sunday morning, I woke up more pissed than when I first read it.

Clearly, based on the insertion of the word “black,” white and Hispanic young men coming into the NFL don’t need any training or guidance because they already have all of the skills needed to “life” in a legal, responsible manner. Just ask Ben Roethlisberger, Ryan Leaf, Aaron Hernandez, Jared Allen, Sebastian Janikowski, Richie Incognito, Matt Prater, Mark Chmura, Barrett Robbins, Todd Sauerbrun, Eric Naposki, and dozens of other non-black NFL players who have beaten their significant others, driven drunk, had sex with underage babysitters, assaulted, sexually assaulted, and even murdered people.

    https://bleacherreport.com/articles/719049-the-nfl-all-arrest-all-pro-team

    https://www.business2community.com/sports/27-active-nfl-players-who-have-been-arrested-multiple-times-01325152

Yet clearly, we need to train and guide only the ignorant and already inherently dangerous black boys. Lovely.

Approximately 70% of NFL players are African American, yet, despite all of the attention that comes with it, the arrest rate for NFL players is lower than the standard arrest rate for the entire American population. That’s odd; you’d think a league dominated by hoodlums with brown skin would be setting the curve. http://www.nflarrest.com/

It's easy and lazy to say that the letter writer is just naïve and/or that he didn’t mean anything by it. If he didn’t mean anything by it, he wouldn’t have inserted the word “black” into his email. While it’s true that he may be so misinformed that he can only think of black NFL players that he’s heard of that have gotten in trouble, the fact that he then deduces and implies that only black players get in trouble or, put another way all young black men are trouble is nothing short of racist.

Not to mention the very end of his email; having already established that he’s only concerned about young black men coming into the league, his solution is to “put something in place to help men like Ruggs who recently signed million dollar plus contracts.” Like, for example; this year the first two draft picks in the NFL were Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson, who received $24 and $22 million each, respectively in signing bonuses. They’re both 22 and white so they’re of no concern. But, uh-oh…That dastardly third pick in the draft was Trey Lance, who at the age of just 21 was given $22 million dollars for signing his contract and…guess what? He’s black! And, by definition, young! Oh my God I can hear the shrieks of horror all around me. Certainly something has been put in place to help him! How in the world can we just hand a grown man that much money when he’s black? That’s just irresponsible. We should probably tell him that we’ll hold onto that $22 million and give him just what he needs for living expenses until he’s say, 30.

Oh wait, his mom is white, so he’s only part black. He probably doesn’t need as much guidance as the other fully black young men.

As we sit in awe at the embarrassing spectacle that is Aaron Rodgers this week and his total loss of credibility and any sort of respect he had left, it’s ironic that people want to focus on those darn ghetto ass black men. And don’t even try moral equivalency arguments like “Aaron Rodgers didn’t kill anyone.” For starters, three of those white NFL players in the earlier list are murderers. Secondly, the truth of the matter is that Aaron Rodgers MAY have been responsible for someone’s death by lying to his teammates and the media about being “immunized” and not following the protocols the NFL has in place for non-vaccinated players. As stupid as so much of our reaction as a nation to Covid has been, it’s still killed more than 700,000 people and is a deadly virus to plenty of players’ parents or immunocompromised relatives. And the most relevant analogy to this story is the fact that short of Tom Brady, there is no player as prolific in the NFL as Aaron Rodgers. He was on the short list to host Jeopardy permanently for God’s sake! The Ruggs story is despicable, but it’s essentially already a memory. His career is over, he’s going to go to jail for a long time and in a couple years, no one will remember his name. Rodgers is a Hall-of-Fame shoo-in who, for 5 days and counting, has been the epicenter of all NFL coverage as we watch him lie, squirm, whine, and make things worse by the day, clearly distracting from the image the league works so hard to maintain. Most importantly, I haven’t gotten any emails asking why the NFL doesn’t train and guide young WHITE men to tell the truth.

Clearly, I’m being hyperbolic and am not suggesting Rodgers and Ruggs are on morally equivalent ground, but I couldn’t resist.

Perhaps the better comparison would be Britt Reid. While not a player, he was a coach in the NFL, and had been since he was 21 years old. Fortunately, though, the trappings of fame and money weren’t a jarring experience for him since his father was already a highly successful multi-millionaire. Plus, talk about a “system put in place,” to help guide a young man in the NFL, Britt Reid spent his entire career in the NFL working for and beside his father, Andy. And of course, they’re both white, so there was no need to worry about anything in the first place. Other than the fact that Reid was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on February 4, 2021, just a few days before Super Bowl LV. Reid was on Adderall and had a blood alcohol concentration of .113. The five-year-old passenger in the car Reid struck was in critical condition and spent ten days in a coma and on April 2, 2021, roughly two months after the crime, the five-year-old girl was released from the hospital, still unable to walk or talk and being fed through a feeding tube.

But hey, let’s make sure we keep an eye on those young black men coming into the NFL.

    Rob's Soapbox - Pot Stickers, Anyone? Oct 31, 2021
    Show notes

The short answers to your questions are: Yes, you should be terrified and no, there isn’t anything you can do about it.

I’ve spoken and written many times about the book entitled “2034,” authored by two veterans, including an Admiral, which spells out in chillingly realistic ways, how World War III will come to pass at the hands of China’s meticulous planning, plotting, and execution. I’ve read the book twice, and while some of its’ plot twists, particularly as it relates to how the war plays out, are questionable, it should be required reading for every American. In fact, the only problem I have with the book is its’ title. 2034 seems unrealistically far away for such a scenario to occur. Perhaps 2028 or 2026 would be a more likely timeline.

I’ve said for decades that the ignorance, arrogance, and apathy of Americans will be what ends our reign as the greatest nation on Earth and it is playing out before our very eyes right now. We, the American people, not our alleged “leaders,” are to blame for the terrifying reality we now live in. And let’s start with that; the overwhelming majority of Americans have no idea what is happening, and if you were to tell them most would wave their hand dismissively and say something arrogantly ignorant like “Eh, those (insert racial slur here) ain’t nothing compared to us. We’ll just Hiroshima them and it will all be over.”

After decades of literally financing China by insisting on buying almost everything we own from them, China is close to its’ generations-long plan of becoming the world’s newest, and only, superpower. To be clear, I’m not talking about China owning America’s debt, because that is a fallacy repeated by dumbasses. Of the $28 trillion America is in debt, $22 trillion of it is owned by us, the American people. We’ve only received $6 trillion from foreign countries, and China isn’t even the largest holder of the debt of the United States, Japan is. I’m speaking specifically of us; the American consumer, and our needs and insistence on owning the best of the best at the lowest possible price, all of which comes from China, either directly or indirectly. https://www.thebalance.com/who-owns-the-u-s-national-debt-3306124

If they aren’t literally manufacturing the product you’re buying in Mainland China, they are providing the chips, parts, and internal infrastructure needed to make almost everything you own. Yes, even if it says “Made in the USA,” it almost certainly has China’s fingerprints all over it. The old joke about Chinese goods being of low quality is long since untrue, and even people who try to claim that “no, everything isn’t made in China,” can’t make believable arguments. In fact, China has launched a national policy to become the world’s supplier of almost everything by 2025…and there’s no indication that they will fail. https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/made-china-2025-threat-global-trade

Bear in mind that no company exists independently in China; all forms of commerce there exist to fund the Communist Party that controls the country. As more of the world has outsourced almost all of its needs to China, we have created an economic behemoth that has plunged hundreds of billions of dollars into defense spending…and that’s just what they admit to. Many estimates claim that China is actually spending as much as the United States on their military, and just lying to the world about it. Whatever they’re doing, they’re doing it well, as the world has seen the last few weeks.

To be crystal clear; China is not some thriving, hyper-successful economic titan; quite the opposite, which is what makes them so dangerous. They are teetering on the brink and have learned from history that pre-emptive offenses often win the day. It’s beyond obvious that they are preparing for something and that we have no idea what, exactly, it is, or what we’ll do about it.

China has solidified a rock-solid alliance with Russia and Iran and all indications are that Pakistan is next. That’s a terrifying axis of evil armed to the teeth. It is no secret that America’s largest corporations and institutions are being hacked at will by China, and last week it was confirmed that China recently tested a hypersonic weapon system we had no idea they were so far along with in terms of development and deployment. While the U.S. already possesses hypersonic weapons, China is kicking our ass in space, deploying endless satellites designed specifically to knock out all of our abilities to monitor and launch counter-offensives in the event of an attack. And all of this is what we’re being told we know…imagine what the U.S. government isn’t telling us, and worse, imagine what they themselves don’t know. The most likely next course of action is China invading Taiwan and daring the world, most notably the U.S. to do something about it. From there, who knows? Perhaps China unleashes its’ massive and deadly submarine fleet; a force so powerful we don’t even know how many subs they have nor how close to America they can get (or already have gotten). https://asiatimes.com/2021/10/chinas-ai-push-deemed-a-strategic-threat-to-the-us/

    https://spacenews.com/pentagon-report-china-amassing-arsenal-of-anti-satellite-weapons/

In the meantime, with China now financing Iran, the world’s leader in terrorism, and with all indications being that China is about to occupy Bagram Air Force base in Afghanistan…a base mind you, built with your tax dollars by the best military on the planet, it’s easily conceivable that terror attacks on U.S. interests will increase exponentially as a way to slowly cripple us, while also misdirecting our anger on the Middle East and away from China. https://www.hindustantimes.com/world-news/will-taliban-hand-over-bagram-air-base-for-ct-ops-to-china-or-us-101635481648530.html

So…what to do? Absolutely nothing. Oh sure, you can rally your friends and family and decide that you’re going to vote in as many Republicans as possible to the congress and White House, knowing that they will be as tough as possible on China and will throw as much money as they can at the U.S. military. Doing so, of course, will simultaneously embolden and strengthen Saudi Arabia, not to mention whatever social issues you may care about and not agree with conservatives on. Not to mention, there’s no guarantee that anything can stop what seems inevitable and has been caused by this nation’s choices over the last many decades.

I suppose you could start the doomsday prepping garbage, but I still don’t understand why anyone would want to survive and then live in a world that had required you to escape to an underground panic room and eat canned food for months before emerging to hell on Earth.

You could go buy a ton of guns, which you’ll ultimately wind up using on fellow Americans who will turn on one another instantly and begin purging their way to destruction. Personally, if we get to that point, my guns are meant to put my animals and wife out of their misery before joining them.
