The Power of Vulnerability with Creator of SkinOwl Annie Tevelin Jul 14, 2020
    Show notes

This week I could not be more excited to sit down with skincare guru, Annie Tevelin. After struggling to heal her cystic acne, Annie felt disillusioned by the beauty industry and turned to herself to heal her skin. After going back to school for cosmetic chemistry she was able to heal her skin in 30 days (for anyone who has struggled with cystic acne, you know this is INSANE!) using simple, natural, clean ingredients. This experience inspired to create a Facebook group called, 'The SkinOwl' offering professional insight into skincare, makeup and a platform for driving home the importance of self-care.

Annie quickly realized that when talking to people about their skin it so often ties into their self worth and insecurities. It was through this ‘aha moment’ that Annie decided showcase vulnerability in a new way, and created one of my favorite podcasts Off The Record.

Whether its hanging with her family or hosting a table of amazing humans at SkinOwl's dinner collective - The Parliament Project, Annie understands that true beauty starts from the inside and radiates out. I feel so fortunate to have been on the receiving end of Annie’s vulnerability in truly one of my favorite conversations. What started as a chat on skincare quickly evolved to topics like, divorce, motherhood and the importance of real connection.

From artisans to health coaches, Sophia is on a mission to help women-led startups off the ground.

The Flow of Creativity with Sami Nguyen of The Unexpected Type Jun 23, 2020
    Show notes

Sami’s freelance + small biz career began in 2017 after leaving a job she loved at a company with a toxic culture. Her husband put a patch design on Etsy that she drew and they incredulously watched it sell out, taking that as a cue to do something with her artwork inspired by the outdoors! With years of experience in marketing and design, Sami launched The Unexpected Type: a full service design studio filled with adventure goodies. As it continues to grow, it's Sami’s mission to encourage others (especially women) to explore the outdoors, camp and go off-roading.

In this conversation we chat about Sami’s creative process and finding inspiration, brand identity, and how she brings together various facets of her creativity.

Democratizing the Wellness Space with Sinikiwe Dhliwayo of Naaya May 26, 2020
    Show notes

This week I sit down with incredible Sinikiwe Dhliwayo of Naaya Wellness. As it stands now, wellness is synonymous with whiteness, affluence, and being able-bodied. Naaya exists to redefine this narrative. Naaya is bringing people of color into the conversation of wellness with yoga and mindfulness programming for communities who have been traditionally overlooked and excluded from those spaces. Naaya exists for people of color to feel seen, heard, and, most importantly, welcome. We have a dynamic conversation about privilege, accountability, and self care vs. self indulgence.
