Daily Puck Drop Sep 24, 2024
    Show notes

On today’s Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett is joined by Rob Staton, SeahawksDraftblog.com, John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com and Bill Krueger, ROOT Sports.

Rob Staton, SeahawksDraftBlog.comjoins the show from the start to chat about the Seahawks win over Miami and the play of the defense. Is the defense good or is it a result of the opponents they have faced? Also, you are seeing a trend in the NFL with teams running the football more and it’s a trend that will likely continue as the season moves forward. So, as Puck and Rob discuss, old school football is back! With all the compliments being thrown the way of the Seahawks, they still have issues on the offensive line, in particular Anthony Bradford. Puck and Rob can’t figure out why they continue to play him and not give Christian Haynes a shot, but Rob does have a theory that he ran by Puck on why Bradford may be staying in there for now.

Rob continues to gush over the play of Geno Smith and the offense despite them struggling in the middle of the game. D.K. Metcalf continues to be a force in the passing game and the running game looked much better with Zach Charbonnet this past weekend. Both Rob and Puck agreed that Charbonnet is a much better back than people give him credit for. They wrap up their conversation with thoughts on the rest of the NFC West and NFC and ask who is really better than Seattle right now? Seattle is playing some really good football despite the opponents.

John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com, is next up and they touch in on the PAC-12's legal maneuvers, Gonzaga's potential addition to the conference, and how legitimate is John Mateer as a Heisman Trophy candidate? They touch on Wazzu’s chances of running the table and creating chaos in the college football playoffs, the impact of media on what teams get the chance to play in the playoffs, and what happens if the Pac-12 can’t land UNLV and Air Force. Where do they turn next?

Lastly, Bill Krueger, ROOT Sports, joins Puck to talk Mariners baseball. They immediately jump into the performance of Bryce Miller and Bill suggests he’s the best pitcher on the Mariners staff. Julio Rodriguez is finishing the season strong and Puck asks Bill what he could do to get off to a better start at the beginning of the season. Bill reminds Puck that the Mariners still have a shot at the playoffs and tells him not to give up hope. They wrap up their chat with Bill reflecting on his time playing for the Oakland A’s and how much that city and organization meant to him and how sad he is that they are leaving Oakland and that Major League baseball should be ashamed of themselves.

Finally, “Hey, What the Puck!?”, Puck wonders why Joel Klatt of FOX has a problem with what Oregon State and Washington State are doing in rebuilding the conference?

    Rundown

00:00 PuckSports Mobile App launch…Pac-12 news…NFL running game not dead

01:21:00 Bill Krueger stops by to talk some baseball…Bryce Miller the best starter on the staff? What can Julio do in the offseason to be more prepared at the beginning of the season? M’s still have a shot..long, but still alive! Bill shares thoughts on the A’s leaving Oakland.

01:39:05 “Hey, What the Puck!?” FOX’s Joel Klatt’s comments about the Pac-12, Oregon State and Washington State. Why?

Rob Staton Show: Seahawks take early dominant lead in NFC West Sep 24, 2024
    Show notes

On this week’s episode with Rob Staton from SeahawksDraftBlog and Jason “Puck” Puckett on the Seahawks latest win over Miami to improve to 3-0 in the NFC West and a two game lead in the division, the effectiveness of their defense, and the importance of the running game…it’s not dead! They touch on the performances of Derick Hall and D.K. Metcalf and they discuss how well the defense has played to start the season, but the challenge gets much tougher against the Detroit Lions next Monday Night . Offensive line continues to be an issue for the team particularly the play of Anthony Bradford and why the team did not put in Christian Haynes into the game?

Jim Duquette, MLB Network Radio: Ohtani 60/60? Mariners failed season Sep 23, 2024
    Show notes

Jim Duquette, MLB Network Radio stops by to talk all things baseball. They both marvel at Shohei Ohtani and Puck wonders out loud if he could get 60/60??? The Dodgers have the most pressure going into the season on them, but what are they missing and will that prevent them from winning the whole thing? Who are currently the best teams in the AL and NL? Jim’s answer for the American League may surprise you and it will definitely anger you! Jim and Puck discuss how the Mariners, if they don’t get in, just completely blew a huge opportunity this season especially with how poorly teams like the Royals and Twins have played down the stretch. Julio Rodriguez has turned his season around and a lot of credit has gone to Edgar Martinez. Puck asks Jim if Julio needs to ditch his personal hitting coach in Florida and just work exclusively with Edgar in the offseason. Jim also offered Julio some advice to how he should handle this upcoming offseason.

"HawksNest" Curtis Crabtree & Tim Booth: Seahawks win sloppy, dominant defensive performance Sep 23, 2024
    Show notes

Jim takes off to walk his dogs again, and Puck is joined by Tim Booth and Curtis Crabtree for their weekly “HawksNest” Show, where they breakdown the Seahawks win over the Dolphins. The Seahawks were able to dominate the game on the defensive side, but how much is that because of the quarterback play for the Dolphins? The season has been a pretty soft landing for Mike Macdonald and his new staff because they have faced Bo Nix, Jacoby Brissett and Skylar Thompson. The season will heat up next week when they take on the Detroit Lions. They turn their attention to the offensive line. It played better at times, but Anthony Bradford has been a disaster and why has Christian Haynes not taken over at the spot yet? Regardless of the opponent, the Seahawks are 3-0 and have a two game lead in the NFC West thanks in part to a number of injuries affecting the other teams. Seattle must take advantage of the situation and they currently are doing that.

On Monday’s, Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett and Jim Moore, former hosts at KJR, discuss their weekend , including Jim's visit to Pullman and whether or not it’s ok to buy your kids a half-gallon of booze? Jim and Puck can’t figure out how the Cougars won on Friday night, but somehow they won the game, and they delve into the Mariners' playoff hopes and Puck tells Jim that he was wrong for rooting against them. Because Jim and Puck are riding high on the Cougs, they put their money down on John Mateer winning the Heisman Trophy! They switch gears to the Seahawks and talked about how they were able to win an ugly, sloppy game.

Brad and Jason “Puck” Puckett dive into the latest blunder involving Julio Rodriguez. Brad wants to know what was worse, the Julio play or Victor Robles from the previous night.

Puck and Brad wonder and are frustrated that the team will no doubt trade one of their young pitchers in the offseason to improve the offense. They just can’t decide which one will be moved.

Going back to the Julio and Robles situation, Puck and Brad agree that Dan Wilson should have been more pointed in his postgame comments. He didn’t need to go over the top in his displeasure, but he needed to publicly state that is not the way the Mariners play. Puck introduces Brad to the “Puckett Crisis Firm.”

Lastly, this offseason will be the most critical for Julio Rodriguez. His struggles this season are a main source of why the M’s will not make the playoffs.
