Do you ever feel like when summer comes your rhythms and routines change?
For example, the way that I like to read my Bible and pray during the school year just doesn't fit with my kids being off school during the summer. And even if you don't have kids at home, summertime can introduce a completely different dynamic in your schedule!
That’s why we are spending these summer months praying through the Pauline Epistles and digging deep into God's Word.

This summer in our Patreon Prayer Community we are getting creative with our Bible habits! In our Patreon community, I will be posting a Bible study video tutorial every month to show you some of my favorite creative ways to get into God’s word time is short or when my rhythm is kind of out of whack.

Just because the season changes doesn’t mean we can’t continue praying prayers of REST and saturating ourselves in Scripture! If you’d like to join us you can sign up to become a Patreon prayer partner today when you go to prayersofrest.com/patreon.

Lastly, If you’re looking for a fun and flexible Bible study for this summer, check out my Bible study He is Enough on the book of Colossians. With a flexible plan that allows you to choose whether you want to spend 5 mins or 30 to 45 minutes on your lesson for the day, creative study tips, and coloring pages, this study would be the perfect way to start off your summer Bible study habit!
Our friends at moody publishers have been so generous to give us 40% off when you shop at moodypublishers.com use the code ENOUGH at checkout.

These prayer episodes are a bit shorter than usual but feel free to hit pause if you need more time to pray. And in case you’re wondering, you can find this collection of prayers in the Prayers of Rest Devotional starting on page 354.
Until we meet again, may you find rest in God's loving presence...

8.12 The Final Victory May 01, 2023

Show notes

Do you ever skip to the end of a book to find out what happens?

There are times when I'm reading a novel and there's a battle scene that is just so intense, or there's a season for the protagonist that is just so hopeless, that part of me wants to skip forward to the end just make sure everyone’s going to be okay! And I wonder sometimes if we wish we had the end of our story…

In the midst of the hard that we're going through, in the midst of the very real spiritual warfare that we are a part of, the truth is we do have the end of the story. And that ending should give us great hope.

This spring on the Prayers of REST Podcast we are praying through the Armor of God as we rest in the victory of Christ. Join us each week as we:

8.11 Demolishing Strongholds Apr 24, 2023

Show notes

When it comes to spiritual warfare, I'll be the first to admit there's a lot I don't know…

I feel like an absolute kindergartner when it comes to these things, but I can read Scripture and recognize that there are realities at work that I might not understand.

One of those spiritual realities is that there are strongholds in this world. There are strong towers set up by the enemy that are hard ground to gain.

In my own life, I've seen that in the stronghold of food fixation, where I felt like I just can't overcome this obsession. And yet I've experienced in my life the power of Christ Jesus to demolish those strongholds, and that is what I invite you to experience in prayer with me today.

8.10 The Weapon of Prayer Apr 17, 2023

Show notes

As a child, whenever I heard people talking about the Armor of God in church, usually there was this sketch of a Roman soldier that had the helmet and the belt and the shoes…

And typically the Armor of God ended with the Sword of the Spirit. But when we look at Ephesians 6, there is one very important weapon that we cannot afford to overlook, and yet I think it is the one that we disregard most often: the weapon of prayer.

8.9 The Sword of the Spirit Apr 10, 2023

Show notes

If we are told to put on the Armor of God in our stand against Satan, it would stand to reason that Jesus Christ Himself did that when He went against Satan in the wilderness in His 40 days of testing…

Nowhere is this more clear than in the way that Jesus responds to those three temptations. Did you notice that every time Jesus is tempted, He responds to Satan with scripture?

The only offensive weapon we're given in the Armor of God is the Sword of the Spirit and we see Jesus wielding that Sword powerfully. Do you know how to wield it?

8.8 The Helmet of Salvation Apr 03, 2023

Show notes

When I was a child, I used to spend so much time looking out a window daydreaming.

I mean, my mind would just run away from me! As a child, it was fine, but the problem comes when, as adults, we still do not reign in our thoughts.

This is where part of this spiritual war is fought. Our fears, worries, fantasies, and feelings will try to take over, but we are not left without defense.

God has given us His armor, and he's given us something to protect our minds: the Helmet of Salvation.

This spring on the Prayers of REST Podcast we are praying through the Armor of God as we rest in the victory of Christ. Join us each week as we:
