8.7 The Shield of Faith Mar 27, 2023

Show notes

When the enemy shoots his fiery arrows, will you be ready?

You know how in movies that portray ancient battles, there would be archers that shoot flaming arrows over the city they're trying to capture? The soldiers on the inside of the city are so busy trying to put out fires that they're distracted from the enemy line that is advancing and trying to barge through the gate.

Well, it was a common tactic back in the day and Scripture says that there's a very similar strategy that the enemy uses against us. His fiery arrows are pointed at us so that we might be so busy chasing down little things that we forget the main thing.

We take our eyes off of Jesus because we're so busy putting out little fires. But God has given us armor to counter the enemy's strategy: the Shield of Faith.

This spring on the Prayers of REST Podcast we are praying through the Armor of God as we rest in the victory of Christ. Join us each week as we:

R - Recite God's Goodness
E - Express Your Neediness
S - Seek His Stillness

8.6 The Shoes of Peace Mar 20, 2023

Show notes

It's no secret that we live in an anxious age.

We're offered so many solutions to the restlessness and the anxiety in our minds.

You could scroll social media, you could chill and watch a show, or you could do something else that just numbs the mind. But none of those things truly brings a lasting sense of peace…

True peace is found only in Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. This is why we're told to put on the shoes of peace as part of the Armor of God! Are you wearing yours today?

8.5 The Breastplate of Righteousness Mar 13, 2023

There's a strange tension in spiritual warfare… Jesus Christ has already won the victory, but we're also called to participate in the battle. We cannot be passive and nowhere else do we see this more than when we are called to put on the breastplate of righteousness.

8.4 The Belt of Truth Mar 06, 2023

Show notes

Do you know what the devil's favorite weapon is?

Think about it for a moment. Can you picture it? It might surprise you. I'm firmly convinced that the devil's favorite weapon is lies.

Think back to the Garden of Eden. That's how he got Eve… He deceived her with a lie, a half-truth.

And think about how he tempted Jesus in the wilderness… It was by taking scripture and twisting it into half-truths, charging at Him with lies. So it's no surprise that when we are told to put on the Armor of God, the very first piece we are told to put on has to do with confronting the lies of the enemy: the Belt of Truth.

8.3 The Full Armor of God Feb 27, 2023

Show notes

Have you ever had that terrible dream where you're in a public place in your underwear?

I have, and it's terrifying because none of us in our right mind would wake up and forget to put clothes on. But every day we do that spiritually. We forget to put on our spiritual clothing. We forget to put on the Armor of God. Every day we are stepping out into the world unprepared, unclothed to engage in the spiritual warfare that's happening.

So today I invite you to put on the full Armor of God so that you might stand your ground in the spiritual battle that is, even now, being waged around us. Will you join me?

8.2 The Real Enemy Feb 20, 2023

Show notes

A quick scan of today's newspaper headlines shows that so many people are doing things that are contrary to the will of God and it's easy to become angry with them….

It's easy to think that they’re the enemy, but Scripture says otherwise.

We have a real enemy, but do you know who he is? Do you know how to defeat him?
