Practical Prepping Podcast Episode #102 "Part Two: Understanding Firearms, Their History, And Their Importance For Being Prepared"

Please share this episode with friends. Here is the direct link: https://practicalpreppingpodcast.buzzsprout.com

Let's talk more about firearms, especially prepper firearms.
This is part 2 of a 2 part series.
In this episode we will give you the five firearms for practical prepping and the reasons why.

Even if you believe firearms are not for you, listen to the whole episode. It will make you more knowledgeable, and who knows, it might help you see things differently.

First: If you believe the world is about to experience the zombie apocalypse, or a total societal colapse is about to occur and there will be marauding hordes going house to house, then AR-15s or AK-74s (semi version AK-47) is probably the first firearms you should aquire, and a ton of ammo and magazines, and a whole lot of first aid supplies.

    Two questions consistently come up.
"What firearm should I buy?" and "If you could have only one firearm for SHTF what would it be?"
We'll answer both of those questions.

Our recommendations, and the order we believe they should be acquired are:

1st Is a Personal defense Handgun

    • Must Be Concealable
    • Needs to be Carried on-body
    • Needs to be Comfortable to carry
    • Need a Quality holster
    • Need a Quality gun belt for support
    • Thebeltman.net
    • Crossbreed.com
    • Gunbelts.com
    • Get some firearms training
    • Tiger McGee, ShootRight Firearms Academy

    2nd Is a .22 caliber rifle

3rd Is a Pump shotgun in 12 or 20 ga

4th Is a Scoped Centerfire Bolt Action Hunting Caliber Rifle

    5th Is a Defensive rifle

    • In the AR or the AK platform
    • Stock of ammo and extra magazines, cleaning kit, and gun oil

The decision to own or not own firearms is a personal choice, and we support your decision, but if you are somewhat new to firearms and you want a well rounded approach to prepper firearms, we think this is a good way to go.

    Let's talk firearms!
This is part 1 of a 2 part series on firearms...."Understanding Firearms, Their History, And Their Importance To Being Prepared"
We are going to release the second episode tomorrow rather than waiting another day.

There are actually many reasons to own a firearm.
Hunting, collecting, personal defense, and even prepping for SHTF.

There's an old quote that says, "God created man. Samuel Colt made them equal." That is especially true if a petite 90 lb lady is being attacked by a burly 240 lb thug intent on harming her. It's also true for the older of us, or if we are faced with multiple attackers.

Question often comes up, "What firearm I should buy?"
We'll address that in this series, and give you five firearms we believe everyone should have, and the order in which they should be acquired, but the choice is yours.

We look at a Short History of firearms, from the flintlock to the machine gun & their usage which will help us better understand where we are today.

In tomorrow's episode we will answer the questions about which firearms most preppers should have. The answer is still, "it depends" but we'll talk about some specific firearms and make some recommendations.

The choice to own or not own firearms is still a personal choice.
The choices you make depend on what you believe may happen after SHTF. We expect to survive and continue with life, while protecting our family and putting food on the table.

We expect the need for firearms in catastrophic SHTF event will be much more likely to be in providing food and personal defense than it will be in fighting the unwashed hoards, but..... we ARE prepared if the alien zombie frogs or the fire breathing ninja turtles show up.

Episode #100, "Gun Control, and What Will They Do Next? 'They,' Being The Government." Sep 20, 2021
    Show notes

Episode #100, "Gun Control, and What Will They Do Next?
    'They,' Being The Government."

This isn't so much a political discussion, as it is a statement of "fact checked" historical records of gun control laws, as well as statements by current and recent politicians and candidates in reference to their positions on gun control.

One goal of the far left has, for years, been to eliminate private ownership of firearms. History shows this to be a very bad idea. The Jewish Holocaust is a good example.

Eliminating private firearm ownership is NOT about safety, crimes, or even death. Gun control is not about controlling firearms, it is about controlling people!

In some states law abiding citizens must apply for and obtain a "FOID" card, or Firearms Owners Identification Card in order to even own a firearm.

In other words, we will "have to have permission of the government to exercise our God-given right as guaranteed by the US Constitution." What if we had to have their permission before we can exercise our rights under the 1st, 4th, or 5th amendments
In this episode we look at a number of statements they have made, many of which reveal their long term goals, what they want to enact in the near future, and why.

    Things We Can Do

    • Join the NRA at NRA.org
    • Stay informed
    • Vote in every election
    • Get involved

Run for political office, or encourage good, 2nd amendment supporters to run.
Write To Your Congressional Representatives and Senators. Urge them to vote against any and all gun control proposals.
    Email them
    Call them

Our rights guaranteed by our constitution are under assault.
The second amendment is under assault!
Legal firearm owners are under attack.
The government says we don't need firearms.Ask the Native Americans how that worked.
Ask the Jews how that worked in the 40s.

An unarmed populous becomes a controlled populous.
If they are ever successful, we will all lose most of our freedoms and become subjects of the government.

If the second amendment falls, what is to keep the first amendment, or the fourth amendment, or the fifth amendment, or the fourteenth amendment from being taken away?

    • I can see it now, our houses being searched just because the government wants to search.
    • I can see Americans being beaten or tortured into making confessions.
    • I can see Americans being held as political prisoners, or jailed because of our religious beliefs, our political beliefs, or we don't conform to the narrative or mandates.

How do you want to live, with liberty, or as a subject of the government?

Patrick Henry, in his greatest speech said, "Give me liberty, or give me death."

    What will it be?

Episode # 99, "We Are Discussing Bug Out Vehicles, Including After EMP Or CME" Sep 15, 2021
    Show notes

In episode # 99, we are discussing "Bug out vehicles, Including After EMP Or CME"

Please share this episode with friends. Here is the direct link: https://practicalpreppingpodcast.buzzsprout.com

People romanticize bug-out vehicles, especially the idea of Mad Max type vehicles.

There are actually some great memes out there. My favorite: 70s Ford Bronco, open top, with sandbags, jerry cans of fuel, Stinger missle loaded in the back, with a mounted 50 cal on the roll bar, and a mounted SAW machine gun for the driver.

Lot of fun to imagine having one of those, but unless the Zombies or Aliens attack, its is probably more novelty than anything else.

Since there is always a possibility of having to bug out, and some times that we really must bug out, lets discuss some considerations for bug out vehicles:

    • What is the event that is leading you to bug out?
    • Where are you going?
    • How much do you need to carry?
    • How far do you need to go?
    • What will driving conditions be?

"General" bugging out for wild fires, floods, weather events, volcanoes, earthquakes, etc, just use what vehicle you have.

    After an EMP or CME
Conflicting opinions by leading industry experts on what actually would happen to modern vehicles in the event of an EMP. Studies differ, and it partly depends on the distance from the blast, and the intensity of the blast, but it might range from a total knockout to shutting down but being able to restart.

    During Civil unrest
Use what you have, take what you can, and GO

    Society is in the toilet

    • Evaluate the risk
    • Are you safer leaving than staying?
    • Only criteria to the decision.
    • Decide when to leave
    • Early morning may be better than afternoon
    • Decide what to take
    • FIRST PRIORITY is to stay alive and not be hurt

Zombies - you'll need something with a substantial bumper and good wipers ;-)

Alien Invasion - We don't have an answer for this one.
They can travel at the speed of light and shoot those green blob death rays.
    "Proceed at your own risk."

The first flashlight was invented in 1898 by English inventor David Misell, called “flash” light because the light couldn’t be turned on for long and had to be rested from time to time.

in the 50s, 60s & 70s Eveready flashlight was THE most popular flashlight, and carried by almost every police officer
1967 Eveready Energizer introduced the first rechargeable flashlight
1970: The first water-resistant flashlight is introduced - again, by Energizer, also the first push button switch
1979: The first Maglite flashlight is introduced.
It became the new standard in law enforcement
1980s: The first pocket-sized flashlights are introduced
1999, the LED was made suitable for use in a flashlight. The LED bulb could be made brighter, more efficient, smaller, so many ways and in so many sizes.

LED lights have become the gold standard in handheld lighting devices, and are the current standard in law enforcement.
