    Episode 359 - Re-Surch | @Resurch Oct 07, 2019
    Show notes

In this episode of PoPolitickin, we are joined by Re-Surch.
Re-Surch’s upbringing in the bleak Dorchester borough of Boston, Massachusetts, where hope is limited and violence and drugs are plentiful, shaped him from a very early age. He was simultaneously taking part in a program which bused inner city black children to predominantly white, Republican, suburban schools surrounding Boston. The playful, comedic persona that Re-Surch embodies on the track ‘Raised in the Ghetto, Went to School in the Burbs,’ mimics the paradoxical theme of being brought up in indigent surroundings in Dorchester while going to school with privileged white children in the suburbs.
One experience Re-Surch details on the album is the life changing opportunity of interning for the Howard Stern Show where he became fondly known as ‘John the Black Intern,’ and where he decided to completely focus on achieving his dreams in the entertainment industry. Previous to interning for Howard Stern, Re-Surch was on a harrowing path plagued by everything from juvenile detention at a young age to getting stabbed multiple times over drugs. Eventually, Re-Surch dropped out of high school as well.
Re-Surch later attended Penobscot Job Corps in Maine where he graduated with his high school diploma and attended college soon thereafter, leading him to land the internship of a lifetime. His unstoppable, new-found passion was a life-altering shift for him....
“Before I started working at the Howard Stern Show, I thought the only people who achieved their dreams were on TV,” Re-Surch explains. “I never knew anyone that was really that successful until I started working for the show. It was like everyone around me was super successful and that motivated and inspired me.”
Re-Surch’s time with Howard Stern opened a myriad of doors for him. He was commissioned frequently to pen parody songs and overnight tunes, he had the opportunity to perform in front of massive audiences, and since his internship, Re-Surch has opened for the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan, and many more.

    Episode 357 - Champagne Duane | @ChampagneDuane Sep 13, 2019
    Show notes

In this episode of PoPolitickin, we politick with Champagne Duane.
With sophisticated lyrics and refined presentation, Champagne Duane's music is always celebration-ready. With influences from rappers like Jay-Z, Nas and Eminem, Duane approaches his music with crafty lyricism and storytelling. His debut album "A Toast" contains features from Hip-Hop heavyweights Talib Kweli and Big Pooh as well as soul singers Saeeda Wright and Jarrod Lawson, fusing rap and R&B to capture the essence of 90s Hip-Hop. His most recent release, The Campaign, is the soundtrack to America's political and social climate. The standout track, "Gun Control" asks the question, "what if we shoot back?" in responses to violent killings of Black men and women by law enforcement. Clever and charismatic only begin to capture his approach to Hip-Hop as the Guyana-born artist is poised and confident to create his own lane in the rap game.

    Show notes

In this episode of PoPolitickin, we politick with Hemi.
Hemi is a recording artist from the Campbell Terrace Projects in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is the oldest of 4 children raised in a single parent household with his mother who was only 15 years old when she birthed him. His father was in prison most of his life and his brother, Hemi’s uncle, was killed in his front yard. His other uncle was sentenced to 49 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit which left Hemi the man of the house. Hemi eventually moved with his grandmother at the age of 13 but he and his brothers raised each other as there were no other male figures. Hemi’s musical gene stems from his uncle who used to rap and had a movement in their hometown.
Hemi gained popularity after releasing singles from what would become his debut project, ‘Time A Tell’ in 2017 hosted by Florida legend, Bigga Rankin. The project has been described as a street classic full of raw emotion and lyrically aggressive. The title, ‘Time A Tell’ is inspired by the facts of life, time will tell everything. ‘Time A Tell’ is an ode to the streets of Fayetteville and features production from Cash Money A.P. and verses from local talent, Lil Ruga and Issac Perry. Each song contains stories about Hemi’s personal life and details keeping your head up during hard times. The lead single for the project is “Only The Real” and the official music video is nearing 20k views. Hemi hopes to relate to the everyday person who comes from the bottom and may have a similar story. Hemi and his label, Dead Play Ent are currently traveling throughout the United States spreading their brand and releasing new content and merchandise.
