Are high-profile guests a good way to grow your podcast audience? Jul 16, 2017
    Show notes

When you're wondering how to grow your podcast audience, high-profile guests can feel like a silver bullet. But while having successful, well-known people on your show is hugely advantageous, it’s no guarantee your podcast will go from 10 listeners to 10,000 overnight.

How effective a guest is at growing your podcast audience will depend on a bunch of factors that are entirely out of your control and in this episode I take you through them so you can make sure your expectations are realistic.

How can you grow your podcast audience? Jul 09, 2017
    Show notes

Welcome to everyone's favourite topic when they've got a lot of listeners and everyone's least favourite topic when they're podcasting to no one but their mum.

Growing your podcast audience is the mountain we all have to climb and unfortunately, there's no single path to the summit (so please be wary of anyone who tells you there is).

There are plenty of things you can do to set your podcast up for success BUT even if you're doing them all well, it's still no guarantee you'll be flooded with listeners.

So what can you do to increase your chances of getting more ears on your show?

Should you write a script for your episodes? Jul 02, 2017
    Show notes

When you’re new to podcasting it’s natural to want to script everything because having words on paper can feel like a warm security blanket. But reading from a script on your podcast immediately distances you from your audience.

Why? Because you’re more focused on the page than you are on them.

In this episode, I explain how to make sure you're prepared and have all the information you need in front of you without disconnecting from the people who are listening to your show.

Welcome to the PodSchool Podcast May 22, 2017
    Show notes

In each short episode I'll share actionable tips used by podcast professionals to create compelling content, connect with an audience and keep listeners coming back for more.

If you've never podcasted before, if you've been winging it, or if you're a seasoned semi-professional who wants to take their show to the next level, this podcast is for you.

    About me...

My name is Rachel Corbett and I've worked professionally for almost two decades in radio and podcasting. I've hosted and produced shows for some of the biggest radio networks in Australia, created three of my own independent podcasts and I was Head of Podcasts for Mamamia, the largest women's podcast network in the world.

At Mamamia, I grew the podcast network from 15 to over 35 shows, the team from two to nine producers and the audience to over 1 million unique listeners a month and over 90 million downloads which is more than quadruple where it was when I started.

I've also hosted over ten podcasts with more than 2 million downloads including Lady Startup, Eligible, Before The Bump and You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere. You can find all my podcasts at rachelcorbett.com.au/podcasts.

I've taught radio and podcasting at the Australia Film Television and Radio School and have my own online podcasting course, PodSchool, so if you're looking for someone who knows what they're talking about when it comes to pods, you've come to the right place.
