    35. "Stuart" Reveals, There has Never Been a Better Time to be In the Music Business! Nov 08, 2015
    Show notes

    Introduction

Welcome back to the dHarmic Evolution podcast with me James Kevin O'Connor, singer/songwriter and master storyteller. And boy have I got a story to tell today! In this episode, I have with me the amazing Stuart of Stuart. FM. I'm excited to have him on the show today, as this music master has got it nailed down! His guitar riffs and slides are heavens to the ears!

Join us as we chat about his history, when he first picked up his guitar - which was supposedly for his sister - and how the music of legend Jimi Hendrix has pushed him more toward the path of music! I had a wonderful chat with Stuart, and I bet you will too! His tracks are amazing, and worth every second to listen to. Stuart and I also get into the topic of the future of music - fidelity and royalty and how these are important to balance out the equation in the music world - and how important it is to get the attention of your audience. It's important for today's artists to have more fans or followers than actually sell records.

Truly inspiring, Stuart isn't only a musician but a successful entrepreneur as well, giving rise to the NIA Technique, which is a worldwide fitness and wellness holistic educational company.

You definitely want to check this episode out!

    On this episode:

    • You'll learn about how Stuart borrowed his sister's guitar at 11 and discovered that he had fallen in love with music
    • Stuart tells us about growing up in an American military family and spending most of his life in Rome - because if you're going to do it in style, then do it in Italy!
    • He tells us about his song "Trees," which has been translated into Italian! How awesome is that!
    • Stuart talks about his song "Forever," and how it was written during his period of teenage angst.
    • You'll learn about Stuart's business, NIA, which focuses on fitness and wellness and helps people understand the language of their bodies.
    • "Pain, shame, anger, and blame" - the emotions he felt while writing the song "Two Little Children," as he was amidst a difficult time in his life.
    • Stuart and I exchange our opinions on our music's fidelity and royalty.
    • Stuart lets us in on what he does during his downtime!

    34. Owen Kortz from Denver Colorado Inspires all with his music and his Teaching! Nov 04, 2015
    Show notes

Welcome back to the dHarmic Evolution podcast with me James Kevin O'Connor, singer/songwriter and master storyteller. In today's episode, we go all the way to Denver, Colorado to speak with another talented artist, Owen Kortz.

Owen grew up in a musical family, with a major Beatles influence. In high school, he took his first guitar lessons and easily fell deep in love with music making. While learning, his mother who also wrote songs coached him, hence becoming the powerful musician and lyricist he is today. He relies on his feelings, emotions, and experiences when writing songs; Owen is also a fan of co-writing, enjoying his time with friends who also love making music.

His major influencers for his style of music include The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor, and more. As to the kinds of music he likes to listen to at the moment, he tells me that it varies, probably because of the extensive background and exposure he has been through all these years of listening, writing, and creating music.

Aside from writing and playing songs, Owen keeps himself busy by helping out music students enrolled in the Songwriting Program of the Music and Entertainment Industry Studies Department at the University of Colorado-Denver. In addition, he volunteers for the Urban Peak Homeless Youth Shelter. Talk about a music man with a heart!

Check out the full interview for more of Owen's stories.

    On this episode:

    • You'll learn about Owen's style in music writing
    • Owen's major influences in music
    • How Owen came to help with the songwriting program at the University of Colorado-Denver
    • Sound clips of Owen's songs---which are awesome!
    • The details on Owen's albums and other amazing stuff you don't want to miss!

    Quotes from Owen Kortz:

    • "It's just a matter of starting with an object or a guitar riff." -on how he gets inspiration for writing lyrics
    • "I ask myself, 'How can I put this in such a way that will connect with my extended family - my audience, my community?'"
    • "I between gigs, I do a lot of writing."
    • "It's just about bringing people together around music."

    32. Katie O'Toole Produces music around the world, hear it here! Oct 28, 2015
    Show notes

Katie is a music producer in LA California, grew up in Montana on an Indian Reservation started playing Piano as first instrument, started with the suzuki method, studied as a classical musician, but it seemed like a chore..... Once I started being creative with piano and in 8th grade i got a guitar with the Tascam Recorder, #244 experimenting with sound and instruments, and was very exciting..........

Studied in Oregon and Montana in College and knew I wanted something creative, applied to Berkley, got into Production and Engineering, I was deciding between Nashville and LA, and was interning, and landed a job at "the Village studio" and the hours were challenging, i saw the add for "Drums for you" which later became 'Studio Pro's"

People call me from all over the world and, today I heard from people from Norway, Isreal, France, Italy, Russia, Ireland, Peru, and Gayana.

Neil Barlow was on this show earlier in the week and commented about Studio Pro's

Turn around process for a full song can happen in a week but we recommend 48 hours for each instrument to give the artist time to evaluate the songs.

We have a network of excellent musicians who are touring, and when they come off the road, they become available.

All our session musicians have their own studio's that are professional studios, not home studio's. Demo's to be pitched are something we also do..........

We attract artists through our website, some online marketing, and some social media, but delivering high quality is how we get our work..............

We are starting to offer video services, to help artists get their music out onto Youtube, Fixed Frame..........

    Co Producer is Rob Hutzel

    30. Neil Barlow is a Songwriter from the UK, and knows how to put it all together! Oct 21, 2015
    Show notes

Neil's family moved out on him because of his after shave, Drums drew me into the music scene along with the Glam Rock stage. Drums really came up in the mix around the mid 80's, Bernie Taupin was someone I admired, I would write lyrics to Kenny G's music just to have a melody to work with. I started writing poetry in school, and wrote what I felt from the Heart. I went to Art College, a tutor there was working with a Producer, and put me in touch, I wrote "Talk to you"

Vickie Fallon, on vocals, and Gareth Young Producer, Danni Minogue and the Sugar Babes, Neil Taylor, Tommy Denander,

I have dreamt a song, and then woke up to a new song that I had written, Michael J Scott is someone I wrote some tracks with.

Myspace still around? A new track we are working on its called "Crazy"

The new Album "Emotional" is out by Michael J Scott, and has some of my work on it

David Cook influenced the track Lie, with his approach, Daughtry influenced my writing as well. I started writing the song Lie when I was 15, and finished it about 6 years ago, rewrites are good.

I use Chris at Studio Pros in LA for some of the vocals etc

Garreth Produced "Father" Tommy Denander just released a box set and included "Father" as one of the tracks on his record. My Uncle Influenced this song, and its good to take the time to appreciate the now!

Just write, and don't judge it, just write! When Prince was asked what is your best song, he replied, "The next one"

    * You Gave your Heart

    28. Amanda Shaw from the UK is a Singer/Songwriter! Oct 14, 2015
    Show notes

I was born in Sussex, but did a lot of gigs in the Brighton area, I was influence by Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Delta Goodrem, and play piano and sing, I had a formal education and learned about piano and voice, I started with classical voice and training.

3 New records, Live for now, the acoustic album, & belle époque, is a co write with Maggie K De Monde, who was with Scarlet Fantastic in the 80's. No memory.........Belle époque brings me to a beautiful new era, and its time to embrace that, I met my other half, and I knew it was meant to be, and that song signifies this change.....

I co wrote "Without You" with Andy Ross, as a kid I came up with melodies while I was running or walking, develop a melody, then go to the piano, and the lyrics most time comes last as the music is where the emotion is for me. Nature is a good influence on music. The London music scene is a great diverse area for music, there are lots of pubs and venues, open mic nights are really good for testing things out.

Over the next year I would like to mix in some good cover songs with my own material, and find some great places to play that has a good sound system and sound engineer. To find an act that I can support on the road. I am most excited about my new albums coming out, and getting out and doing gigs and promoting my music, and publishing, and got my music on Holly Oaks, a television show.

Just got my track "Summers Day" through Leopard Music!

I like the Goo Goo Dolls, Foo Fighters, Michael Jackson,

I like River Dance, how can they dance on an oil drum! the music is uplifting and has a great story!

    26. April Forrest Singer/Songwriter from Boston Oct 07, 2015
    Show notes

Born in Connecticut but new home is Boston! Dancing in the Crib! I did ballet, went to New York often, loved hip hop, wanted to be President until Selina's death. Using my dancing to go into music, then took up flute, didgeridoo, and kazoo (not really) but then came piano, I like to describe my music to producers, then by way of selection, I will process and then select. Jada was a band that I spent 8 years in, a Boston based girl group, I brought my dance chops to the table while working on my singing.

Worked with Red One, and Ray Kaye, both established producers. We modeled ourselves after Vogue, and boys to men. I need to learn how to navigate the business and we kept our circle tight. Working with Surefire creative studios, Jared is the Producer I am working with now, and he is singing on "Believe"

I was involved with Dancing and Modeling, but felt I was too short to be a Runway model and was not really interested in that. Modeling is an interesting career, but does not always look like it feels! At one time I was asked to take off my top at a photo shoot, and had to cry over this! Not my thing, no one prepared us for this. Dancers have a way of carrying themselves, its hard to get a photo of me, so I am looking like I am swallowing a frog!!!#$%^&

I have weeks were I am in creative mode, and it depends on how I am feeling, then sometimes I go 2 or 3 weeks without writing, but I always have idea's in my head!

Boston had lots of Unique musicians, Berkley of course, Rock, House and Dance music, but not lots of Pop music. Lots of bar bands and open mic's to play out. Focusing on finishing my EP and getting it out there in January. I sang the national anthem with Jada at Gillette Stadium, Madison Square Garden, The new EP will be titled Electric Love and out in January
