190 So you wanna be a podcaster? Jan 25, 2022

Hey I want to share this quick minisode with you to let you know about something revolutionary. Let's just say, it's my way of bypassing the necessity of scheduling a consult, and I bring it directly to YOU!

Melanie Childers, Master Coach and the creator of the Bad Bitch Mastermind, made it her mission to help ambitious women to bring their “patriarchy-smashing projects to life.”

In this episode, Melanie shares the insights she discovered from having worked with me as her podcast coach, and how this support helped her overcome the obstacles holding her back.

186 The Art of Taking Time Off from Your Podcast Dec 27, 2021

With the new year fast-approaching, we're thinking about resets, resolutions, digital detoxes, and finally making this the year the best one ever, but what about taking time away? REAL time to do nothing and to do it with total intention.

Taking a break can be one of the hardest things we can do, especially with our podcast, because we think we always have to be ON ... but one missed week is nothing 'cause you're here to build a legacy, right?

In order to bring in more we need to make space ... empty the plate.
Doing this takes courage, and willingness, but it can be the best gift you could give yourself this holiday season ... the gift that keeps giving, adding color and contrast to your life.

AND ... when you do this you build self-trust. You know nothing falls apart.
You'll take a reset, and you'll be excited to come back with fresh eyes and excitement to press record. This is the solution to sustainability if you want success with your podcast, your business, and your full humanity.

Why do you need to be on all the time ... or appear that way in your online biz? What purpose does this serve? Will you will lose something if you do?

Taking time off is actually where service starts. How can you serve others if you are not taking time to reflect, to see how things went this past year, these past few months?

Sometimes weeding a garden or cleaning a cupboard is the work we must do.
How can we welcome in more if the garden is overgrown and the cupboards look like a scene out of Hoarders? (Hey … speaking from my own experience!)

Remember what Mr. Miagi said to Daniel in The Karate Kid when he was anxious to learn a new move? Mr M. said, “Wax on wax off.”
The wisest teachers don't say much, and they repeat the simplest thing again and again so hopefully it finally hits our heart and we experience what we need.

Give yourself grace ... love and time off if you need it and put the "shoulds" on a shelf.

185 Embrace Your Inner Peacock Dec 08, 2021

In this episode, I'm continuing on with this theme of perfectionism, and how you can zap out of this by connecting to your inner peacock, and allow your colorful feathers to unfurl.

You'll learn how to diffuse the things that hold you back, and finally get out from your own way to reach your baby birds through the power of your podcast.
You're here for something bigger beyond the podcast. The podcast is the vehicle. Your words are the ALCHEMY.

The podcasting equipment, the tools, the sound quality, that’s the easy part. That part is just the action we take when we have a compelling reason that drives us.
This I is what I’m talking about … check out this private message a client recently sent me: "I just can't contain my excitement ... I have to get this podcast out to the world!"
That’s the kind of HELL YEAH energy you gotta have.

I used to play it safe because I feared criticism, or that somehow I wasn't playing by the rules about what I should or shouldn't share about myself, my vision as a coach and as a creative force in the world.

I shared these limiting thoughts once with one of my coach friends and she replied ...You know Kara, you are a peacock, so what's the worst that could happen if you unfurl your feathers?"

When you embrace your inner peacock it reminds you of who you are. You get to see yourself in full Technicolor … Flaws and all.

How can you remind yourself how magnificent you are and really truly feel this in your skin?
Is there something running in the background of your brain that is habitual? This might not show up right away or seem obvious, but keep searching for that hidden obstacle that keeps you stuck in the cage of perfectionism.
Now go out there and unfurl your feathers and fly your freak flag!

184 How Perfectionism Keeps You Stuck in a FUNK Dec 06, 2021

We may think perfectionism is a badge of honor, but let's call it what it is: FEAR in disguise and is the killer of dreams.
Perfectionism keeps us so stuck that we spend months or even years thinking about starting a podcast, and then finally when you do, perfectionism rears it's ugly head again telling you it's not good enough ... record it again, create a better graphic, or promotional copy ... it's just not good enough ... you're not good enough.

If you haven't started a podcast yet: how does wanting it to be perfect show up for you?

If you have a podcast: how does perfectionism show up and take the fun out of it all?

You can stay in your PJs and fave hoodie all day … and still create a big, beautiful business of your dreams and a podcast to be proud of!

Here’s how I see perfectionism rear its ugly head with my podcast coaching clients (and if any of these hit a nerve … GOOD!)
They think …

I need the right equipment before starting
Still exploring the options
I’m looking for the right producer/editor
Waiting until the website is set up
Keep re-recording because they don't like their voice, or a small slip up
Writing and re-writing scripts/bullets because they have to be right first
It should be a ground-breaking, profound topic
Indecision about where to start - which topics come first
They want to practice, take speaking classes first
They want to wait until they have more time to go “all-in”
Don't think they can have a seat at the "big coaches" table

181 It’s Time to Talk About the F Word Nov 27, 2021

You have everything you need to start your podcast TODAY.
You don’t need fancy editing software.

You don’t need to hire an expensive production company to produce your show.

More downloads will not equate to more clients.

I see so many life coaches make the mistake of over-complicating things by thinking that they need an expensive set up, or hire an expensive production team.

This just doesn’t matter.

Here’s what matters …

You’re in it for the love of it. You're the little kid playing in the sandbox.

You know that kid … they sit there for hours if you let them. That little kid who’s having so much fun, they lose track of time.

That’s the feeling I invite you to cultivate for your podcast.

When you show up from this pure feeling, you're not going to care about sounding perfectly polished.

You’re going to reach those peeps who are dying to hear your words.

You can say ANYTHING and they will love it, even without the fancy extras.

You’re not going to worry about creating the most profound experience for your people. It will just happen.

Lose track of time. Love playing in the sandbox.
