Previewing the final Pac-12 Championship Game with Oregon and Washington fighting for a playoff spot Nov 30, 2023

Show notes

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio previewing what should be an exciting end to the Pac-12 football conference, a championship game in Las Vegas between 12-0 No. 3 ranked Washington and 11-1 No. 5 ranked Oregon. The Huskies have been in some close games but they have come out on the right end each and every week, posting the first ever undefeated conference season in the Pac-12 era. The Ducks have been blowing teams out left and right after their midseason loss to UW and they have revenge on their mind.

Both teams have Heisman Trophy candidates at quarterback with Washington's Michael Penix and Oregon's Bo Nix, and both programs have a College Football Playoff berth on the line, which would be the conference's first since 2016.

As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat.

Recap of the final Pac-12 football weekend w/ Oregon punching its ticket to play Washington in Vegas Nov 27, 2023

Show notes

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio recapping the very last Pac-12 regular season football weekend, not just for the season but unfortunately forever. We knew Washington had locked up the No. 1 seed for the Pac-12 Championship game but we didn't know who the Huskies would face. Now we do thanks to Oregon's beatdown of Oregon State in what could be the final game formerly known as the Civil War for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile the Huskies kept their playoff hopes alive with a narrow win in the Apple Cup over Washington State (luckily, that game is set to continue for at least the next five years). Arizona still had a shot at a conference championship until the Ducks took care of business, but that did not deter the Wildcats who absolutely dominated ASU in the Territorial Cup.

A beat up Utah squad survived an upset bit from a beat up Colorado squad, Cal came into the Rose Bowl and gave the UCLA administration more to think about when it comes to keeping Chip Kelly into the Big Ten era plus Stanford got embarrassed by Notre Dame on the very last Pac-12 Network football broadcast.

As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat.

Recapping Pac-12 week 12 games including Washington topping Oregon State and Arizona beats Utah Nov 19, 2023

Show notes

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions host Ryan Abraham is podcasting solo with birthday boy David Woods off in Hawaii for another one of his numerous vacations. Ryan is back in studio recapping what was a full slate of week 12 games in the Pac-12 that featured two ranked-on-ranked games, Friday night lights, no Saturday Pac-12 After Dark, two rivalry games and three teams fighting to stay bowl eligible.

The signature game featured the No. 5 Washington Huskies taking down the No. 11 Oregon State Beavers in rainy Corvallis. Despite a below average performance by Michael Penix and not scoring in the second half, UW was able to sneak out with a 22-20 win with the difference being a bad OSU punt snap that turned into a first half safety. No. 17 Arizona also made a statement by blowing out No. 22 Utah at home, jumping out 21-0 in the first quarter against a Utes squad that was once again banged up with key players out injured.

In the rivalry games UCLA made a statement and rallied around embattled head coach Chip Kelly, blowing out USC 38-20 in the Coliseum while Cal went into Palo Alto and took down Stanford with few problems. No. 6 Oregon had no trouble in the desert, jumping out to a 42-0 halftime lead over Arizona State with Bo Nix throwing 6 touchdown passes and Washington State steamrolled Colorado to end the Cougs 6-game losing streak and giving the Buffs their 5th loss in a row.

With one week left Washington has clinched its spot in Las Vegas and Oregon and Arizona are the only other two teams alive to face the Huskies.

Ryan also talks about Cam Rising announcing his return to Utah, the latest AP Poll, the winner of our Pac-12 Survivor Poll plus OSU and WSU take another step towards becoming the Pac-12 in 2024.

Previewing Pac-12 week 12 games including No. 5 Washington at No. 11 Oregon State Nov 16, 2023

Show notes

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio previewing a full slate of week 12 games in the Pac-12 that features two separate ranked-on-ranked matchups, two rivalry games, three teams trying to keep bowl eligibility alive, one Friday night game and no Pac-12 After Dark contests on Saturday night.

The headline matchup is the last game of the day, featuring No. 5 Washington in Corvallis to take on No. 11 Oregon State at 4:30pm on ABC. The other contest featuring two ranked teams is No. 22 Utah on the road taking on No. 17 Arizona in Tucson.

Week 12 gets going Friday night with Colorado taking on Washington State in Pullman and both the Buffs and Cougs need a win to keep their (slim) opportunity to play in the post season alive. Both USC and UCLA have faltered late in the season but something will have to give when the Trojans and the Bruins face off in the Coliseum at 12:30. No. 6 Oregon will head to the desert to take on their former offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham and ASU. The final rivalry game, what they like to call Big Game, features 3-7 Stanford hosting 4-6 Cal at 3:30 on Pac-12 Networks.

The guys also discuss the latest on the Pac-2 lawsuit with Oregon State and Washington State winning a key court battle and reportedly setting up a scheduling agreement with the Mountain West for the next two seasons. Plus the report from BRO that UCLA head coach Chip Kelly will likely be fired after the season.

As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat.

Recapping Pac-12 week 11 games including Washington topping Utah and ASU's upset of UCLA Nov 13, 2023

Show notes

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio recapping what was a full slate of week 11 games in the Pac-12 that featured Washington's comeback home win against Utah, Oregon taking care of USC in Autzen and Arizona State's huge upset of UCLA in the Rose Bowl.

The guys start off the show talking about the breaking news that Arizona State athletic director Ray Anderson has resigned and the Sun Devils will look for a new AD to lead the athletic program into the Big 12. Anderson shouldn't have been hired in the first place and the fact that he lasted for a decade is baffling, but ASU does have a young, up and coming head coach in Kenny Dillingham and he could use a similar AD to help the transition to the new conference and navigate the changing landscape around college football.

Washington moved to 10-0 on the season after shutting down Utah in the second half in Seattle. Oregon got 400 passing yards from Bo Nix as they took care of business against USC in Eugene. Arizona got a scare on Boulder but held on to take care of Colorado thanks to a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter. UCLA couldn't find its offense while Arizona State utilized the swinging gate to keep the Bruins off balance en route to their 17-7 upset in the Rose Bowl. Washington State outplayed Cal in Berkeley but turnovers sunk the Cougars hopes of breaking their now 6-game losing streak. And Oregon State absolutely pasted Stanford 62-17 in Corvallis.

The guys recap all of the action and reveal their latest Pac-12 Power rankings.

As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat.

Recapping Pac-12 week 10 games including Washington's huge win plus USC DC Alex Grinch fired Nov 05, 2023

Show notes

In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio recapping what was a full slate of week 10 games in the Pac-12 that featured Washington putting up over 50 points on USC in the Coliseum to keep their undefeated season and playoff hopes alive. Oregon, Utah and Arizona also made statements with decisive wins while Oregon State survived a trip to Boulder and Stanford notched another road win against a struggling Cougars squad.

The guys recap all of the action and reveal their latest Pac-12 Power rankings.

Just before the show went live the news broke that USC defensive coordinator Alex Grinch was fired by Lincoln Riley. Dave and Ryan give their reaction to the news right at the top of the show.

The featured game of the day did not showcase a lot of defense and ended up being a fun duel between Heisman Trophy candidates Caleb Williams and Michael Penix with plenty of run game support including Dillon Johnson's 256 yards rushing and four touchdowns. The Ducks are playing the best football in the Pac-12 and throttled California in Eugene, Utah bounced back from their rough week by dismantling Arizona State, the Wildcats suffocated UCLA in Tucson with Gronk cheering U of A on, Colorado's offense didn't improve with a coordinator change and Oregon State held on for a win in Boulder and Stanford goes to Pullman and squeaked out a win against a struggling WSU squad.

As usual Ryan and Dave end the podcast answering listener emails and questions from the YouTube chat.
