24: Anna and the King with Jessica Ellis May 09, 2018
    Show notes

Did you know the beloved Rogers and Hammerstein musical “The King and I” was based on a true story? And that in 1999 they made a live action, epic historical drama about said true story? And that the movie based on the true story starred Jodie Foster and Chow Yun-Fat? And that this obvious Oscar play based on a true story was only nominated for two minor Oscars? And that the true story had no songs and a ritual beheading? And that the Thai government banned the filming of the true story movie in Thailand because it probably wasn’t true?! Join Phil, Kenny and filmmaker and twitter superstar Jessica Ellis as they spend half the episode discussing the probably-not-true story of Anna and the King of Siam and the other half on, for some reason, Star Wars!

23: The Bone Collector with Danielle Savre May 02, 2018
    Show notes

Phil and Kenny would love to do a podcast about The Bone Collector, but a terrible accident has befallen them, so in their stead, they’ve enlisted rookie podcaster, Danielle Savre (Station 19), to do all of the work for them! Is Danielle up to the daunting task of discussing the odd and questionable chemistry between Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie? Will she buckle under the pressure of dissecting the film’s byzantine plot? Is she going to persevere as the podcast gets into dark, spooky and potentially deadly territory? Can she handle ranking a film on a scale from 0-99 for the first time in her life?! Tune in to find out the answers to all of these cliffhangers and more as the crew Collects Some Bones!

There’s gonna be hard-hitting theories on the true hero of this movie! Smash-mouth takes on James Van Der Beek’s work as a leading man! A head-rattling deconstruction of Billy Bob’s character arc! Zig-zagging, button-hooking non-sequitirs into Meet Dave, Major League and the University of Toronto! And rumbling, stumbling, fumbling opinions of the film’s borderline criminal misogyny! Don't miss a second of the action on Podcast Like it’s 1999!

    19: Analyze This Apr 04, 2018
    Show notes

Hey yo, so we got something you might be interested in. It’s a podcast. A real nice podcast. It’s got Phil Iscove and Kenny Neibart and a discussion about Harold Ramis’ mob spoof “Analyze This.” You know, that funny movie where Bobby DeNiro plays a mafia boss with a case of the yips so he hires a shrink who’s played by that guy, you know the one, the comedian with the curly hair who loves Sammy Davis Jr. and baseball? That guy. A mobster going to a shrink! You’d think it was a fantasy not a comedy cuz everyone knows real mobsters ain’t need no psychological evaluation, capiche? But this podcast, we think it’ll be worth your time time. And, if you’re not satisfied, you can take a long walk off a short pier, alright? Download the podcast and tell your friends about. Go on. Do it. We clear? Alright, you’re a good kid.

18: Dick with Stacy Traub Mar 28, 2018
    Show notes

Phil and Kenny are joined by writer Stacy Traub (The Real O’Neals, Blackish, Glee) for an intimate discussion about the 1999 Richard Nixon comedy, Dick.

Although not a big hit, when it comes to cultural significance, Dick is more of a grow-er than a show-er. But Dick was a hard movie to pull off. How do you take a dingaling like Richard Nixon and avoid turning him into a one-eyed monster? How do you turn two 15 year old girls (Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams) into the trouser snakes who brought down the White House without making myriad boners? And how do you do a podcast about Dick without erecting an oral monument to Dick puns?

Join the crew for this episode about a movie that is a cocked rifle shooting a wad of premonition from 1999 into the unsuspecting face of 2018.

17: The Straight Story with Simon Ennis Mar 21, 2018
    Show notes

From the deranged mind of David Lynch, comes 1999's... sweetest movie? Based on a true story of an -- is this right? -- elderly man who rides a tractor to visit his dying brother... what? This dude did Blue Velvet!

Wait. What is this? This movie got a damn G rating? And was produced by Disney? Is this a joke?

We could have gotten Eraserhead! Wild at Heart! Even Dune would have been fun! But 1999's David Freakin Lynch movie is The Straight Story...

And, oh yeah, it's actually great! Join Phil, Kenny and special guest Simon Ennis as they discuss the film Lynch has called his "most experimental," as well as the entire oeuvre of one of America's finest, and wildest, filmmakers.

Get in their belly as they discuss how whether this movie is more or less pleasurable than a kick to the mummy-daddy button! Does Heather Graham’s Felicity Shagwell age well?! Does mini-me still tickle you?! Can a movie constructed completely of recycled jokes work?! The surprising answers to these and other randy questions await you in this eeeevil episode of Podcast Like Its 1999!
