Episode 43 - The Yogurt Episode Sep 03, 2020

Show notes

This week, we decided to get all dairy up in this podcast by eating a bunch of different yogurts and giving you our opinions about them. Are we qualified to judge these yogurts? Yes, because the internet makes us fit. There’s minimal eating sound on the mic, so don’t worry too much about being ASMR’ed to death.

We ate: Yoplait strawberry kiwi, Liberte strawberry, Oui Vanilla, Wallaby vanilla, Wunder Vanilla, Fage plain, Icelandic provisions plain, AND vanilla, Chobani, Siggi’s, and Kite Hill.

Episode 41 - Unpacking the Mess Jul 17, 2020

Show notes

Hello all! We’re back with our post-move podcast; the first recording in our new space. We talk about some of the pains of moving across states during a pandemic, what our new place is like, and ideas for the future of our podcast.
As we become settled over the next few weeks, we will be putting out a new schedule for episode releases - not just for Playing Hooky, but for Nerd Words (and new projects) as well. Thanks for sticking with us!

Episode 40 - So Long Indy, Hello Chicago Jun 16, 2020

Show notes

Welcome back to another episode of the Playing Hooky Podcast! We know we're a bit behind on this episode, and there's a good reason for that. We'll explain that and some other things in this episode.
As you can tell, this episode focuses on our travels and impending relocation to Chicago from Indianapolis. It's been a very trying and chaotic year, so we try to let it hang out and have some fun this episode.
Please stick with us as we transition over the next few months. We will continue to produce this and many other podcasts for the foreseeable future!

Episode 39 - The Black Albums May 16, 2020

Show notes

We’re back with another episode! Finally. Sheesh. This episode, we watched This is Spinal Tap, the 1984* mockumentary is about the fictional English heavy metal band Spinal Tap, and stars by Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer.
In an effort to remain consistent with our premise, we then watched the equally ridiculous documentary, A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica, which chronicles the creation of the band’s self-titled Black Album and the tour after its release. It was originally released only on VHS in the USA.
*Yes, I know I say 1982 throughout the podcast. Thanks for noticing my error.

Episode 37 - Tiger King & It's Always Sunny... Apr 06, 2020

Show notes

Hello everyone. We hope you are all doing well and staying safe in these trying times. This episode, we did something a little different. We started on the right path, with Rachel bringing “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” to the table for review. In late March, this new documentary series came out, and we just couldn’t avoid talking about it. Of course, we’re referring to “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness,” available now on Netflix.

Also, as a side note, we mention Half-Priced Books in this podcast in a very positive light. We have since learned that the chain has closed all of its stores and furloughed more than 2000 of its employees. Many former employees are rightfully upset. We were sad to learn that many of these awesome booksellers have lost their jobs due to this crisis. As former retail workers, the UML team stands in support and solidarity with every retail and food service employee that has been impacted by the global pandemic.
