Released in 1984, "Paperboy" Players control a paperboy on a bicycle delivering newspapers along a suburban street. The player must avoid obstacles while delivering papers to customers and vandalizing non-subscribers' homes. Two years later, in 1986, "720 Degrees" was introduced. It's a skateboarding game named for the two full spins (720 degrees) a player can make. players navigate a skater through a series of events in four environments (Ramp, Downhill, Slalom, and Jump) while avoiding bees and trying to gather as many points as possible before time runs out. Both games were known for their unique control mechanisms.

The Panzer Dragoon series takes place in a post-apocalyptic world in which humans have begun to recover technologies from the Ancient Age, a world-spanning, hyper-advanced civilization destroyed thousands of years before the events of the games. The Ancients used genetic engineering to create living weapons, which were unleashed in a cataclysmic war that nearly destroyed humanity. The mutated descendants of these creatures have merged into wild ecosystems, where they pose a continual threat to human civilization and serve as enemies encountered in the games.

Jurassic Park is based on the 1993 film of the same name, in which paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant and others become trapped on an island theme park and zoo where genetically engineered dinosaurs have escaped. Playing as Grant, the player must rescue Lex and Tim, the grandchildren of the park's owner, John Hammond. The player begins the game near an overturned vehicle in the Tyrannosaurus paddock. After finding Tim, Grant searches for Lex in a sewer maze. The player then must re-activate the park's power to contact a helicopter so the survivors can escape the island

A series of techno-thriller stealth games created by Hideo Kojima. Developed and published by Konami, the first game, Metal Gear, was released in 1987 for MSX home computers. The player often takes control of a special forces operative (usually Solid Snake or Big Boss), who is assigned the task of finding the titular super-weapon, "Metal Gear", a bipedal walking tank with the ability to launch nuclear weapons.

In Frogger, the player controls a frog and must guide it across a busy road and a hazardous river, avoiding various obstacles along the way. The goal is to safely maneuver the frog to its home at the top of the screen. The road is filled with cars, trucks, and other vehicles that move horizontally, while the river has logs and turtles that move vertically. The player must time their movements carefully to avoid getting hit or falling into the water.

In concept, Twisted Metal is a demolition derby that emphasizes the usage of ballistic projectiles, machine guns, mines, and other types of weapons (up to and including satellite-based weapons and nuclear weapons). Players choose a vehicle, and an arena—or a series of arenas in the story mode—to engage in battle with opposing drivers. A variety of weapons and upgrades are obtainable by pick-ups scattered throughout the stage. The last driver alive is the winner.
