Episode 6: Interview with Martin Kovac (Uncle Nightshift) Oct 29, 2020

Show notes

Martin Kovac aka Uncle Night Shift
We have a great conversation with the one of the most popular modelers on YouTube - Martin Kovac. Uncle Night shift currently has over 120K subscribers and is pretty much the GOLD standard for modeling videos. He has a great sense of humor and we discuss models, weathering, and of course - his hatred for pineapple on pizza!
We have another interview with our good friend John Bonnani, and discuss the upcoming Wrightcon, a Virtual Model show, as well as our co-sponsored Rye Field Models T-34/85 Group build. And we remind our listeners they still have a couple of days to vote over at the Golden Sprue Awards! Voting ends 10/31!
Another shout out to Goodman Models for sponsoring our show, and to Jim Bates' A Scale Canadian TV channel on YouTube.

Mental Health and Scale Modeling, plus Jon Bius!
Jon Bius joins us for a great conversation about Science Fiction modeling, his journey to becoming a Youtuber, and the culture of scale modeling.
We discuss our regular updates and go over listener feedback, as well as A TON of Hobby Shop Shout outs. MAJOR shout out to the Posse! We also have Chris Bumgarner from Wrightcon, usually an in-person IPMS model show and contest, but this year it is 100% virtual. Everyone can participate - so check out the details!
The MAIN theme of Episode 5 is Mental Health and the hobby. All of us have had a very tough go in 2020, and we wanted to make sure we addressed it - we all need to know it's OK to be down once in a while, we should talk about our challenges, and also we should check on our friends and family to make sure they are OK.
We hope you will join us in letting everyone in your individual circles know you care about them, and that we are all here for each other. Here are some places you can go if you need to talk to someone or know someone who needs help when they are down:
The Trevor Project for LGBTQ+ Youths Crisis line 1-866-488-7386 or https://www.thetrevorproject.org
National Suicide Prevention Hotline 1-800-273-8255
For text help https://www.crisistextline.org/ with service in most areas
NAMI National Awareness of Mental Illness Crisis Line 1-800-273-8255

Airbrush Painting Basics
The Posse is joined by a very special Co-Host - Dave from On the Bench!
We have a great time getting to know Dave, AKA the Godfather of Scale Modeling Podcasts. We discuss the On the Bench podcast, the modelling community in Australia, and Dave reveals an exciting surprise announcement here on the Plastic Posse Podcast! Dave also brings us up to speed on his impressive Real Space modelling in 1/72 scale.
We discuss a new initiative called the Golden Sprue Awards, an exciting new website poll that has been created by Warren Starrett. Warren can also be heard talking about his initiative in Episode 91 of the On The Bench Podcast, and both the Plastic Model Mojo and Scale Model Podcast shows have recently discussed the Golden Sprue Awards.
We also discuss the basic type of airbrush paints – the types used, pros and cons of each, and who makes these paints. This paint primer will also be a foundation that we will expand on in future episodes as painting is a huge topic!
We also hear about one of TJ’s naughty felines, share listener feedback and suggestions from Episode 1 and answer questions submitted by our Posse members!
