    In this episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we talk with Dr. Baxter Montgomery all about complex medical illness and a prescription for better health. While Dr. Montgomery has been practicing cardiology, he has many patients with so many other illnesses that all overlap. He is doing everything he can to encourage his patients to adopt a whole food plant-based diet but finds that there are so many who are not willing to go the extra mile or are still not getting all the results they expected by doing so. You will hear how childhood, past experience, and environment set many up for their health and what fundamental approaches can be taken. Dr. Baxter Montgomery is a Board Certified Cardiologist with years of experience in the latest medical practices and nutritional health. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Texas in Houston, a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and the founder and president of the Houston Cardiac Association (HCA). Having seen many patients suffer the consequences of chronic heart disease, Dr. Montgomery founded the Montgomery Heart & Wellness Center in 2006 with the mission to reverse and prevent life-threatening illnesses. Located in Houston, Texas, The Montgomery Heart & Wellness Center is a state-of-the-art wellness facility complete with all the technology and resources to provide comprehensive medical and wellness care. Combining his medical practice with a food-driven lifestyle intervention, Dr. Montgomery introduces patients to a novel food classification system that helps reverse chronic conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, obesity and diabetes without medications or surgeries. He has refined this process over the past 10 years with profound positive results in severely ill patients. In addition to running Montgomery Heart & Wellness, Dr. Montgomery also does other hospital procedures and teaches young physicians.     In this episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we talk with Dr. Jennifer Simmons about breast cancer basics. This episode is really a treat. Dr. Jenn is so knowledgeable and no nonsense. She recounts her story of overcoming Graves Disease, overcoming COVID and giving up her successful surgical career to help others with their health in a more natural and holistic manner. You will hear all about where soy, breast exams, mammograms and meditation have their parts. Both males and females will find this episode fascinating. Dr. Jennifer Simmons is a Functional Medicine Doctor and founder of Real Health MD. She attended Jefferson Medical College, completed a general surgery residency at Albany Medical Center, and was the inaugural fellow in breast disease in Philadelphia. Dr. Simmons was one of the leaders in breast surgery and cancer care in Philadelphia for 16 years. Passionate about the idea of pursuing health rather than treating illness, she has immersed herself in the study of functional medicine and aims to provide a roadmap to those who want to know real health. Dr. Simmons frequently speaks on her health journey, and on what she has learned in the course of healing herself. She continues to serve her breast cancer population by helping them and others to achieve hormonal health.     Overcoming Grumpiness and Hypoglycemia with Vesanto Melina - PTP391 Jan 12, 2021

    In this episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we talk with Vesanto Melina about how to adjust your diet if you are living with hypoglycemia or often get the case of being hangry! We begin by looking into this 78 year old dietician's run in with the dairy industry and how to get enough calcium and vitamin D without the dairy products too. Then we move into managing low blood sugar levels and talk about lots of ways to make small changes to meals to stay satiated longer. You'll love the tips you get here for children and adults and you may even find you can begin going longer stretches between meals. And of course she gives some good seasonal meal ideas. Vesanto Melina, MS, Registered Dietitian is co-author of books that have won awards in the U.S. and Canada and received star rating by the American Library Association as "the go-to books" on plant-based nutrition. Vesanto has taught nutrition at Seattle's Bastyr University and at the University of British Columbia and is a government consultant.     In this episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we talk with Eric Adams, Brooklyn Borough President and author of the book Healthy At Last. Eric shares how after years of watching his mom suffer from type 2 diabetes he too was headed down that path and what he did was not LIVE with it, but REVERSE it. He has made amazing progress with schools and hospitals adopting more plant-based and healthy options. He also shares why it's so important for communities to start changing the quality of black culture foods and how to do that. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams was born in Brownsville and raised in South Jamaica--one of six children raised by a single mom who cleaned houses. As a young man, Eric faced homelessness, hunger and brutality at the hands of police. But instead of giving into anger, Eric joined the NYPD and fought for reform in the department. He also put himself through school, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees. From the NYPD, he was elected to the State Senate, where he pushed through measures to protect tenants and workers, and advance human rights. As Brooklyn's first Black Borough President, he has worked tirelessly to grow the local economy, reduce inequality, improve public safety, and advocate for better government.     In this episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we have Aaron Fisher back on to talk about motivation, inspiring others, and his new book Love Letters that is hot off the presses. Aaron has become a good friend since he was last on the show. While he was training and carrying out his COVID safe, self-supported IronMan, Adam was inspired to help him out on his runs and had an athletic endeavor of his own as part of Aaron's I AM challenge. The way Aaron talks about helping others be the best they can is quite inspiring. We also get to dive into the story beyond Love Letters, Aaron's new book. Aaron Fisher was born with an innate passion for helping others. In his 20's he had moved to China, created a charity to facilitate schooling for kids in remote towns throughout the country, spoken globally at motivational business development seminars, and has coached fortune 500 companies like Yahoo and H&M on leadership and personal development skills. In 2014, he co-founded Copper88 - a unique garment embedded with rehabilitation and health attributes. Aaron spearheads the company's research and development team, driven by a core value system to help people all over the world feel and live better, healthier lives.     In this episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we talk with Nital Jethalal all about food and nutrition economics, or plant-based econ as the cool kids are calling it these days. Have you ever wondered what the impact would be if everyone went 80, 90, or even 100% plant-based? What effect would that have on the environment, the economy, and even the healthcare systems? What about meat taxes? We take a deeper look at that in today's show. Nital is a smart guy and you'll be intrigued by this conversation for sure. Nital Jethalal is a Toronto-based nutrition economics researcher. He was introduced to the benefits and wonders of whole-food, plant-based (WFPB) living as a teenager. After working in strategic policy at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, in 2008, he started to wonder what would happen if Canadians went largely plant-based. Over ten years later, Nital founded Plant-Based Economics, is one of three researchers behind Plant-Based Data, and is increasingly active in food strategy in Toronto. He sits on the Board of Directors for both the Toronto Vegetarian Association (acting president) and the Toronto Veg Food Bank. He is currently focused on initiatives that help the city achieve climate change emission targets and initiatives that foster greater adoption of plant-based foods throughout the city. Nital has a MSc in Economics from Queen's University and an E-Cornell certificate in plant-based nutrition. He is also a certified reiki practitioner and ashtanga yoga teacher.
