Flatwoods Monster & Dover Demon | Cryptid | Ep.142 Sep 15, 2025

Show notes

Flatwoods Monster

The Flatwoods Monster, also known as the Braxton County Monster, is a mysterious creature reportedly sighted in Flatwoods, West Virginia, on September 12, 1952. Witnesses described a tall, humanoid figure—around 10 feet tall—with a spade-shaped head, glowing red eyes, and a greenish metallic outfit. The sighting followed a reported UFO crash in the area, leading many to believe the creature was extraterrestrial. Several people claimed to feel nauseous after the encounter, possibly due to lingering fumes. While skeptics suggest it may have been a barn owl and hysteria, the legend remains a key piece of American UFO lore.

Dover Demon

The Dover Demon was sighted over two nights in April 1977 in Dover, Massachusetts. Teenagers described seeing a small, hairless humanoid with glowing orange eyes, long fingers, and a large, watermelon-shaped head. It moved awkwardly and was spotted near wooded areas and stone walls. Unlike the Flatwoods Monster, the Dover Demon wasn’t associated with UFOs or technology, making it even more mysterious. Its strange appearance and brief but credible sightings have made it a lasting enigma in cryptozoology.

The case of the Jim Twins—identical twins separated at birth and reunited decades later to discover they’d lived almost identical lives—throws a fascinating spotlight on the age-old nature vs. nurture debate. From marrying women with the same name to having the same job, hobbies, and even naming their dogs the same, their bizarrely parallel lives raise serious questions about how much of our personality, behavior, and choices are hardwired in our genes versus molded by the environment we grow up in.

Send us Fan Mail

Jeni Haynes is a remarkable woman who survived years of horrific abuse at the hands of her father by developing over 2,500 distinct personalities—a psychological defence mechanism known as Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). These alters, ranging from a tough protector named Muscles to a little girl called Symphony, helped her endure the unendurable. In a landmark legal case, Jeni and several of her alters bravely testified in court, leading to her father’s conviction and a 45-year prison sentence. Refusing to be defined by her trauma, Jeni went on to earn a PhD in criminology and psychology, wrote a powerful memoir (The Girl in the Green Dress), and became a voice for survivors of abuse. Her story is not just one of survival—it’s a mind-blowing triumph of resilience, intellect, and the extraordinary ways the human brain protects itself.

The Enfield Poltergeist was one of Britain’s most infamous hauntings, kicking off in 1977 in a sleepy council house in Enfield, North London—because of course it did. The Hodgson family, particularly 11-year-old Janet, found themselves smack in the middle of what can only be described as a paranormal circus: furniture flipping itself over, knocking sounds echoing through walls, toys flying across rooms, and even Janet allegedly levitating like something out of The Exorcist.
