USC Triple-Double: Trojans MBB season preview with Eric Musselman joining the show Oct 27, 2025
    Show notes

The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) previewing the 2025-26 USC men's basketball season after the Trojans completed their preseason with a 67-61 victory at Grand Canyon to go 2-0 in exhibition play.

But first the podcasting duo are joined by USC head coach Eric Musselman as he is about to embark on his second season with the Trojans. Musselman talks about what the coaching staff learned from the preseason scrimmages and how they use the early exhibitions in their assessment of who to put on the floor when the games actually count starting next week.

He discusses his concerns with USC's shooting and offensive flow as well as where he thinks the defense is different this season. Musselman also talks about the emergence of Jerry Easter at the point guard spot and how Youngstown State transfer Gabe Dynes has surprised many with his impact on both ends of the court.

Musselman provides injury updates on Rodney Rice and Alijah Arenas and discusses the new challenges of high school recruiting in the current era with the transfer portal and revenue sharing.

After a break, Shotgun and Connor discuss what they saw from the exhibition and what can be gleaned from the action that featured the Trojans jumping out to another huge lead early and then holding off any rally attempts. The podcasters then give their superlative predictions for the USC men's basketball season.

USC Triple-Double: Chad Baker-Mazara on his hoops journey, trash-talking his future coach's wife Oct 23, 2025
    Show notes

The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the latest news and notes surrounding the USC men's and women's basketball programs, including the men's 60-51 win over Loyola Marymount in their first of two exhibitions.

But first the podcasting duo are joined by sixth-year senior Auburn transfer Chad Baker-Mazara, who talks about how his basketball journey has taken him from the Dominican Republic to New Jersey and Ohio to Pittsburgh, San Diego and Florida before a two-year stint at Auburn and now back to the West in Los Angeles. He discusses how the preseason practices have been going for the Trojans, the big takeaways from USC's exhibition victory and how he's fitting into a new role this season with the Trojans.

Baker-Mazara talks about his relationship with Rodney Rice and the rest of teammates before discussing his recruitment to USC, including a FaceTime with Eric Musselman that had CBM in disbelief and how trash talking Musselman's wife during his time in the SEC actually ended up strengthening the player/coach bond.

After a break, Shotgun and Connor discuss what they saw from the exhibition and what can be gleaned from the action that featured 7-foot-5 Gabe Dynes coming off the bench to score nine points with eight rebounds and six blocks. The podcasters then discuss the Trojans' first two commitments in the 2026 recruiting class, twin forwards Darius and Adonis Ratliff, sons of former NBA All-Star Theo Ratliff, and talk about how viable it is for them to become immediate impact players at USC.

Making sense of the loss at Notre Dame heading into the second bye week Oct 22, 2025
    Show notes

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio breaking down USC's 34-24 loss at Notre Dame, where the Fighting Irish pushed the Trojans around to the tune of 306 rushing yards. It was not an unexpected loss, but certainly disappointing following the positive showing against Michigan the week before. After that win, head coach Lincoln Riley said USC had a tough, physical football team, but just a week later in South Bend it looked like the Trojans reverted to the team from last year that just couldn't put anything together on the road.

The crew gives their thoughts on what USC needs to do during the bye week to get things right and prepare for another long road trip to Nebraska. They discuss what Riley said after Tuesday's practice, what the players revealed in their media availability and what they think this loss means for the rest of the season.

The Road Trip podcast returns as host and USCFootball.com analyst Chris Trevino takes you with him to South Bend, Indiana for USC's 34-24 loss to Notre Dame.

Helium Boys Podcast: USC's South Bend drought continues, play calling and Trick or Treat holdouts Oct 21, 2025
    Show notes

Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are backin a digital room together to break down USC's disappointing showing in a 34-23 loss to No. 13 Notre Dame in South Bend, extending the losing streak since 2011.

Spratling spends his 'Two-Minute Drill' on him failing to see the Trojans win in South Bend and resigns to the fact that he may never get to see it. Trevino goes in another direction to discuss running into a Pop-Tarts Bowl rep on the sideline and making a fool out of himself.

The Helium Boys dive into Stock Up, Stock Down, including Lincoln Riley's playcalling, the offensive line, the officials, kicker Ryon Sayeri, freshman wideout Tanook Hines and the mysterious "Ja'Kobi Dean." They also get a big update on the Stock Neutral debate.

In the second half of the show, they take on some listener questions about offensive tackle Elijah Paige, the way Notre Dame defended Makai Lemon and USC's defensive game plan against the Fighting Irish.

Shotgun spends the Overtime period giving his Trick or Treat thoughts while the hosts also listen to the scariest movies listeners saw as kids.

Coach Harvey Hyde on USC's lack of toughness in loss to Notre Dame Oct 20, 2025
    Show notes

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the Trojans failing to build off of their victory over Michigan, falling to Notre Dame 34-23 in South Bend. The Fighting Irish absolutely pushed USC around on the lines of scrimmage, rushing for over 300 yards and holding the Trojans to just 68 yards on the ground. In two of the last three games the Trojans lacked the necessary toughness to play Big Ten big boy football, with both failing performances occurring on the road.

Coach Hyde talks how this Trojan football team regressed, bouncing back after that disappointing loss at Illinois with a tough, gritty victory over Michigan, only to revert to the finesse team once again Saturday night in South Bend. He goes into what he liked about how USC performed and what the biggest issues were that led to yet another road defeat.

Coach Harvey Hyde has been part of the Peristyle Podcast since 2008 and in the USC football world he is an expert on X's and O's, personnel, coaching philosophies and recruiting.

Tunnel Vision: USC's road woes continue with 34-24 loss at Notre Dame Oct 20, 2025
    Show notes

On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") intern Riley Sager are back in studio recapping the latest disappointing road game effort for the Trojans, getting pushed around on the line of scrimmage by the Fighting Irish in a 34-24 loss. Notre Dame ran for a ridiculous 306 including a record-setting 228 yards by ND tailback Jeremiyah Love, the most by a Fighting Irish player in the history of this series and the most ever by an ND player in Notre Dame Stadium. USC simply couldn't run the ball, gaining just 68 yards on the ground at a 2.3 yards per carry clip, and turned the ball over three times in the second half, dooming any chances of a comeback against the rival Irish.

The crew gives their thoughts on some of the key storylines from the game, including the Notre Dame game plan to play a tight, physical contest all over the field and endure any pass interference calls that came along with it. The Trojans also failed to capitalize following any of the huge plays they generated, allowing the Irish to steal the momentum back almost immediately after the impressive opening touchdown drive, the Makai Lemon 42-yard reception and the Ja'Kobi Lane go ahead touchdown and two point conversion.

Following the loss, USC once again fell out of the AP top-25 and once again will go into a bye week looking for answers to why the team played so poorly away from the friendly confines of the Coliseum.

This is the podcast version of our Tunnel Vision video show.

Tunnel Vision: Previewing rivalry week with USC heading to South Bend to take on Notre Dame Oct 17, 2025
    Show notes

On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") intern India Otto are back in studio previewing a game that has been circled on USC's schedule, a road trip to rival Notre Dame. The No. 20 Trojans come in at 5-1 fresh off a 31-13 win over Michigan while the No. 13 Irish have won four-straight after starting 0-2 and are playing suffocating defense as of late. Both programs are looking for a huge win that would propel them into the College Football Playoff discussion as well as retain or take back the Jeweled Shillelagh (maybe forever?).

The crew gives their thoughts on some of the key matchups in this game, with an elite USC offense taking on a stingy ND defense and run-focused Irish offense taking on a Trojan defense that bounced back against the run-focused Wolverines last week. They also discuss some of the key injuries for the game, with USC's top two running backs out and Notre Dame's starting center and defensive tackle out.

This is the podcast version of our Tunnel Vision video show.
