Instant Analysis from USC's 30-27 overtime loss to TCU in the Alamo Bowl Dec 31, 2025
    Show notes

USC blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead to fall, 30-27, toTCU Tuesday night in the Alamo Bowl, and the USCFootball.com team was there to cover all of the action. In the latest edition of Instant Analysis, Connor Morrissette and Shotgun Spratling give their thoughts on the USC loss and what it means for the future of the program.

USC gave up a 35-yard touchdown on a third-and-20 play in overtime to lose. The Trojans were severely undermanned, but still had multiple chances to win before collapsing.

Jayden Maiava completed 18-of-30 passes for 280 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. King Miller rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown, and Tanook Hines caught six passes for 163 yards. Both USC's offense and defense had chances to land knockout blows and couldn't.

Ryon Sayeri made a 22-yard field goal on USC's first offensive possession of overtime, which put the Trojans ahead 30-27. But then USC's defense couldn't get a stop after pinning back TCU to a third-and-20 play. Horned Frog quarterback Kenny Seals threw a screen pass to Jeremy Payne, and Payne broke multiple tackles along the left sideline en route to scoring the game-winning touchdown. Seals earned Player of the Game honors after throwing for 258 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

The loss drops USC to 9-4 on the season and kickstarts an offseason where the Trojans will need to find a new defensive coordinator after D'Anton Lynn left to take the same position at Penn State.

Helium Boys: USC Alamo Bowl preview, Notre Dame rivalry ceases, DC rumors and ranking Pop Tarts Dec 29, 2025
    Show notes

Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino returnbehind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to preview the Trojans' bowl game matchup against TCU in San Antonio and look at a wide array of college football, and USC-specific, topics after USC and Notre Dame mutually announced the discontinuation of their rivalry and high-profile Big Ten programs hired big-time coaches.

The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun railing on both Notre Dame and USC for not being able to come to a resolution that would have resulted in the continuation of their 100-year old rivalry that has previously taken a global war or global pandemic to keep it from being played. The podcasters then dive into the bevy of comments left on Spotify, answering questions and then ultimately having the randomizer select a winner for a Trader Joes gift card. They then jump into a number of news items since the last Helium Boys episode, including the possibility of USC having to look for a new defensive coordinator soon. They also look at the continuously evolving 2026 roster, discussing the latest transfer portal losses, NFL departures, re-signings announced by USC and the last group of players that have not had their future endeavors revealed

After a break, the podcasters dive into a preview of the Alamo Bowl matchup against the Christian Horned Frogs of Texas, including the key storylines, players and matchups before predicting why the Trojans will win and why they will lose.

The podcast duo also answer your mailbag questions discussing trench play, Biletnikoff statistics and the most memorable moments of the 2025 season. After some 'Take It or Leave It' questions for Shotgun, the episode concludes with Chris and Shotgun ranking the Pop Tarts that were participants in the People's National Championship that is also known at the Pop Tarts Bowl.

Wide range of reactions to the USC and Notre Dame series being paused Dec 24, 2025
    Show notes

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") are coming together for a special Christmas Eve edition of the Peristyle Podcast, talking about historic rivalry between USC and Notre Dame being paused. After the news broke on Monday that the Trojans and the Fighting Irish wouldn't be playing for the foreseeable future, the reactions came in from all across the college football landscape. Ryan and Connor give their thoughts on why this series is taking a hiatus, how the blame for the pause should be distributed and if they feel these programs will ever meet on the gridiron again.

Reaction from the Trojan family has been mixed, with strong opinions on both sides. We have heard from former players and long-time fans that hate that the series isn't going to continue. We also heard from other fans and major media personalities that feel it is in USC's best interest to drop the game and focus on the Big Ten schedule and making the College Football Playoffs.

The guys also preview the Alamo Bowl game between USC and TCU, from what the Trojans roster could look like and who they will be facing off against in San Antonio. There have also been a few new names that declared they will enter the NCAA Transfer Portal and plenty of Trojan players that have resigned with the team.

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing the breaking news that USC and Notre Dame will not play for the foreseeable future, ending one of the greatest rivalries in the history of college football.
