Have the Trojans finally found their defensive coordinator? Jan 22, 2026
    Show notes

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") return to discuss what appears to be the end of USC's search for a defensive coordinator with former TCU head coach Gary Patterson being the only name we have been hearing for the past week. This is an extremely important hire for head coach Lincoln Riley and the guys talk about the latest they are hearing about the search, how likely it is that Patterson gets hired and when it could be announced.

The guys also discuss the breaking news that secondary coach Doug Belk will not being a part of this defensive staff going forward. His name came up as a potential candidate during the search, but as it became more likely that Patterson was the direction USC was going it seemed less and less likely that Belk would be sticking around.

They finish up talking about the closing of the NCAA Transfer Portal, Mike Ekeler officially joining the staff as special teams coordinator plus what Indiana winning the national championship means for college football, the Big Ten and USC.

Trojans finish off their incoming portal class plus defensive coordinator search Jan 16, 2026
    Show notes

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") return to talk about the USC football team finishing off its 2026 Transfer Portal class with the addition of former Wisconsin tight end Tucker Ashcraft. The 6-foot-5, 257 pound tight end signed with USC Wednesday after playing 16 games for Wisconsin over the last two seasons with six starts. He has 22 career catches for 178 yards and two touchdowns. The portal window closes on Friday and there are no more additions expected by the Trojans for this cycle following the massive No. 1 ranked high school recruiting class that was brought in back in December.

The guys also give their thoughts on the ongoing search for the next USC defensive coordinator, with the name of former TCU head coach Gary Patterson coming up in more conversations as of late. Head coach Lincoln Riley wasn't in a hurry to make the hire, and with only one day left for players to enter the portal it is looking more and more likely that the hire will come after that portal window closes.

They finish up discussing what Ryan saw in Hawaii at the early Polynesian Bowl practices that unfortunately did not include the five Trojans signees that had accepted invitations to the game. Those players will show off their skills for the Poly Bowl game on Friday, but as new college students they just stuck around USC a little longer before making their way to Hawaii.

Helium Boys Podcast: Forget the Alamo Bowl, transfer class, Husan Longstreet departs Jan 14, 2026
    Show notes

Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino returnbehind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to wrap up the 2025 season taking a final look at the Trojans' overtime Alamo Bowl loss to TCU and what the 9-4 campaign means for the USC program moving forward. The podcasting duo also looks at a wide array of roster-related topics, including transfer portal additions/subtractions, re-signings and the couple of players that still have not officially finalized their 2026 plans.

The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Chris discussing his New Year's resolutions, which feature several USC-related ones, and Shotgun discussing the latest transfer portal additions, including former five-star quarterback Husan Longstreet jumping in and heading to join former USC head coach Lane Kiffin at LSU. The podcasting duo then discuss the topic that continues without a resolution: USC's search for a new defensive coordinator.

The first half of the show continues with Chris and Shotgun discussing how the Alamo Bowl and the two weeks since the conclusion of the 2025 season have affected the outlook on the Trojans for 2026 in the "Stock Up, Stock Down" segment. Some freshmen get some love for stepping up in the bowl game that featured 12 USC starters not playing while the offensive line seems primed to step forward next season with all five opening day starters and two other reserves that started this year all returning. On the negative side stands USC's tackling efforts after 16 missed tackles as well as the Trojans' recruiting endeavors in the state of Georgia for the 2025 recruiting class

In the second half of the show, the Helium Boys look at the continuously evolving 2026 roster, discussing the latest transfer portal losses, transfer portal additions, the re-signings announced by USC and the last group of players that have not had their future endeavors revealed. The podcast duo also answer your mailbag questions discussing the transfer portal. After some 'Take It or Leave It' questions for Shotgun, the episode concludes with Chris sending the episode into overtime with some things to take or leave in the year 2025.

USC's search for a defensive coordinator rolls on plus Transfer Portal Palooza Jan 08, 2026
    Show notes

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio talking about all of the news and notes around this USC football program, starting with the ongoing search for a new defensive coordinator. With D'Anton Lynn departing Troy for his alma mater Penn State, head coach Lincoln Riley is on the prowl for a new DC. The crew talks about some of the names that have come up and when they feel this search will finally conclude.

The NCAA Transfer Portal has been open for five days and the action has been hot and heavy, including a high profile Big Ten quarterback that signed a deal to stay put and then entered the portal a few days later. The crew talks about which Trojan football players have decided to look elsewhere and which players are making Los Angeles their new home.

There has also been some recruiting news with Trojan targets taking part in the Navy All-American Bowl in San Antonio plus the upcoming Polynesian Bowl in Honolulu.

Coach Harvey Hyde the Alamo Bowl, defensive coordinator search and portal news Jan 05, 2026
    Show notes

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing a variety of topics concerning the USC football program, starting with an extremely disappointing loss to TCU in the Alamo Bowl. The Trojans fell 30-27 in overtime, blowing a 10-point fourth quarter lead and an opportunity to finish the 2025 college football season with double-digit wins. Coach gives his thoughts on the performance, all of the players that decided to opt-out of the game and what that means for the program going forward plus defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn not calling plays at the very last minute.

The guys also talk about Lincoln Riley's search to replace Lynn and potentially other defensive coaches on the staff. With the NCAA Transfer Portal window open, it would be behoove Riley to have the leader of his defense in place to try and keep players on the roster and add guys from other teams. Speaking of the portal, they also discuss some of the players that have entered and a couple of the new commits that have announced they are transferring to USC.
