What's up Perceptionists!

This week we will be covering a topic that has definitely become front and center in the last few years. While just about everyone of us has heard of this syndrome, I was incredibly surprised by much of the information I came across in my research. A couple years ago, ADHD was thought to just effect young boys at an early age and then they would eventually grow out of it; however, they have discovered that this is definitely not true! Only 1 out of every 8 people with the disorder actually grow out of it and it appears that men and women are actually effected equally; women do have the distinction of often being misdiagnosed with anxiety or mood disorders which only look at the symptoms of what they're experiencing.

ADHD can be broken down into three subsectors: Inattentive type, hyperactive/impulsive type, and a combined type. Women tend to fall under the "inattentive" type that are typically symptoms internalized whereas men tend to externalize their symptoms and fall under the stereotypical hyperactive type.

There is so much information in this episode and I guess I sort of nerded out after discovering that so much of what I have dealt with in life actually had terminology that explained how my brain sort of short circuits haha.

Beyond the Borderline: Understanding Borderline Personality Disorder from the inside Dec 06, 2021

Welcome back to another episode of one woman's journey to center of how the F**k society got this way; my name is Christy Ann and I will be your emotional support host!

This week I wanted to sort of break up our conversation on Civil Rights and the Women's Movement and take on something a little bit closer to home. For anyone that knows me knows that I have studied and experienced traits of Borderline Personality Disorder since I was 12 or so years old. I have spent numerous hours researching and studying the behaviors in others as well as in myself to see how these traits manifest and how this may show up in a person versus how it shows on paper so to speak.

This particular episode is full of some very real conversation around emotional distress, childhood neglect, identity disturbance, and potential self-harm so for that I want to issue a bit of a "trigger warning". This show takes the role of a sort of "public personal therapy session" between myself and I and I want to use my platform to help others understand this diagnosis from the inside and clear away some of the stigma associated with BPD.

This will likely be a two part show, so stay tuned!

I came across concepts like "coverture" and "Cult of Domesticity" and these things literally blew my mind whilst pulling together all the sporadic points through which men came to so distinctly rule over women.

Welcome back Perceptionists!

This week we're diving straight in to what is basically the topic of the century: Patriarchy.

"What is "the Patriarchy"'?

"How does it affect us?"

"Who do we blame and how do we "fix" it?"

In this episode, I shift gears from our discussion on individual and social "identity", towards the more controversial ideas confronting the spoken and unspoken suppression of women and minorities. Initially, I had intended to merely discuss the ways in which "toxic masculinity" is internalized in Western Culture, but after hours and days of study, I began to have WAY more questions than that!

When we think of the idea of "the Patriarchy" certain terms and concepts come to mind like misogyny, chauvinism, pay gap, gender inequality, abuse etc., but I wanted to get down to the details of what this thing is and ask some potentially uncomfortable questions.

"Is Patriarchy real or are we thinking too much?" "Are men naturally dominant over women or are we being too sensitive?" "Are other men affected like minorities, and if so, to what extent?" "Are gender roles biologically innate or are they socially constructed?" "At what point were women forced into subservience to their husbands and how the hell did it happen?" "Is male dominance the rule in other cultures or just ours?" "If 'the Patriarchy' controls every part of our lives, how did it go unquestioned for so effing long?"

So many questions; this doesn't even touch the surface!

All the World‘s a Stage: Symbolic Interactionism and the Social Nature of Reality Nov 04, 2021

What's up Perceptionists!

In this week's episode I cover an incredibly interesting sociological topic called "Symbolic Interactionism". During the past few episodes we have been working on our understanding of who we are as people, who we are as individuals, how this develops, what the theories of who "we" are and what the "I" even is. We are slowly working our way towards the more social understanding of how this "I" begins to interact with the world around it and how this interaction actually creates the nature of our reality. This topic is amazingly complex due to the point that it shows that our entire reality is essentially subjective and negotiable based on our interactions with others and the interpretations we have therein.

In this episode I discuss the various styles of attachment types in addition to the studies that helped form these ideas. I discuss autonomous, dismissing, resistant, and disorganized styles and give a lot of my own personal experiences with these things as a sort of reference point.

When it comes to understanding microorganisms and how they interact with our own internal systems, Allyn Orwig is an individual one should go to. She has made it one of her life missions to learn as much as she can about natural healing, and enlighten any and everyone she can.

Allyn is the type of person that lives the life that she teaches. She has embodied her wealth of knowledge that stems from decades of research. She has been working as an herbalist for a majority of her life and with essential oils for 25 years. Allyn has been a licensed Massage Therapist for twenty years, knows Cranial Sacral therapy and is a Reiki Master.

In 2010, Allyn began to work in Quantum Biofeedback and continues in that practice today. Allyn received her PhD in Natural Health Sciences in 2014. Her dissertation on revitalizing water gave her a deeper connection to water and a profound understanding of its unique properties. Allyn also has worked with a Dark Field Microscope for seven years, with over 500 hours of training at Biomedx in live and dried blood nutritional assessment.

Jeilene Tracey is a Vibrational Geneticist who channels light and sound vibrations to create shifts in the energetic, emotional and physical elements of the body. We talk with the amazing bestselling author and constellationist Lenina Mortimer about African Spirituality, cultural appropriation, positive psychology and the benefits of ritual! She even gives us her insight on the psycho-spiritual aspects of the Corona virus after having lived through it herself.

Lenina Mortimer is a best-selling author, an award-winning journalist and spiritual teacher who helps women overcome breakups. She wrote, "I Ain't Thinking About You: The 8-Step Guide to Finally Letting Him Go Using the Breakup Funeral Method." She developed The Breakup Funeral™ after having been ghosted. Necessity is the mother of all invention, and Lenina found it necessary to create a process for closure in order to move past her breakup. It worked, and now she is on a mission to help 20,000 women get over their exes in the year 2020.

Lenina was born and raised in the Midwood section of Brooklyn, New York to immigrant parents of Haitian descent. She speaks Haitian-creole and travels to Haiti often. As a Haitian-American woman dating in New York City with a background in psychology, neuroscience, journalism, and corporate communications, Lenina has developed the skills to counsel ambitious women – helping them to understand their power in dating and in life.

Lenina is also the co-creator and executive producer of the two-time Telly Award winning YouTube series Women of Action with Lenina. The interview series, which features influential people in media, music, and business, is meant to touch, move, and inspire viewers into action. Lenina’s work has appeared in The Huffington Post, The Economist, The Daily Beast, Good Housekeeping, and The Legislative Gazette.

Lenina has been training deeply in the spiritual healing arena and honing her connection with the Divine. She is currently learning the spiritual healing art of International Constellations under the guidance of spiritual healer Ron Young. Additionally, she has a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and Education with a concentration in Spirituality & Mind-Body Practice and Positive Psychology from Columbia University. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with a concentration in Neurobiology from Stony Brook University and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Journalism from Brooklyn College. She received her coaching certification from the internationally recognized program, the Coach Training Academy.

Lenina is an accomplished panel and keynote speaker and a frequent mentor to NYC teens aspiring to careers in journalism and media. She is also the creator of TapTap Tees Apparel, a tshirt line that celebrates Haitian culture. Proceeds for t-shirt sales helps provide Haitian children access to education.
