    Parenting Our Future

Parents! We CAN change the world, starting with the way we’re parenting our future.
Up to this point in history, children have been seen as less than and parented in a way that uses power over a child. Most of us were parented in this way but there is a shift in thinking about the way we raise our kids. Parents don’t feel good about using shame, blame, criticism, punishments, and even rewards, to get their kids to listen. Parents are wanting a different way because they know from their own childhoods this type of parenting hurts and leaves us with scars we take with us through our adulthood.

Each one of my episodes is designed to help you navigate the difficult journey of parenting but in a way that is more peaceful and intentional. I’ll show you how to get your kids to listen and cooperate without yelling, punishments and rewards. I’ll show you how to understand your own feelings and those of your kids.

My intention is to bring you to a place where you feel connected with your kids and yourself (we often get lost when we become parents!). Tune in weekly for all the inside tips, tools and tricks I teach my private clients to help you build the family you always wanted, and to become the parent you always envisioned you would be. I promise to provide you with fun and entertaining content that will leave you seeing your kids and your reactions in a whole new light!

Please make sure to share the episodes that give you goosebumps, and leave you feeling inspired! I am always grateful for every person who subscribes, leaves a review and rates my podcast 5 stars.

Finding Your Unique Definition of Success with Susan Stutzel | POF116 Sep 28, 2021
    Show notes

If you are a mom who's an entrepreneur or professional, this episode is for you!

So often, after we have kids, we get overwhelmed because we are doing ALL THE THINGS. There is a freedom in saying no, to prioritizing what's the most important to you.

My guest, Susan Stutzel knows exactly what this is like from her own experience in her early days as a mom, to now working with professional moms who are also raising a family.

In this episode, we talk about:

Why you need to say no more and how to do it

How to determine what success is for YOU (and not the peanut gallery!)

How when we are overwhelmed, it has a ripple effect throughout both your work and your family (especially our kids behavior)

How our "failures" are helping us (I love the saying, "You either win, or you learn")

How to evaluate your goals now that you have a family

For a free copy of Susan's workbook, "Defining Success as a Role Model", where she walks you through exactly how to determine your goals and priorities, visit www.parent-toolbox.com

Building the Skills Your Kids Need to Love Learning | POF110 Aug 17, 2021
    Show notes

We all want our kids to do well in school, but we don't really teach them how...Like how to work through assignments, manage time, study properly, set goals, etc.

There are so many things at play when it comes to school and as parents, when our kids are struggling it makes us worry about their future and we might slip into hyper focusing on school, nagging them, shaming them, and criticizing them. But that will just make your child feel horrible about themselves and believe me, if they struggle in school, they already feel bad. My guest, Kelsey Komorowski, is an expert in helping kids see their true potential and teaches them the skills they NEED so that they can be thriving learners and confident thinkers.

In this episode we talk about: How our kids are feeling overwhelmed and stressed with school and they don't have the resources to support themselves Kids are grieving the loss of "normal" school" They feel powerless (BUT they and WE can focus on what we CAN control!) For a free copy of the masterclass, "5 steps for transforming your struggling teen into a thriving A leaner" visit www.parent-toolbox.com

About Kelsey Komorowski Kelsey knows that every student can succeed in school, so long as they're shown how. She has 16 years of experience working closely with students to develop the skills, mindsets and attributes they need to thrive not just in school but as lifelong learners and thoughtful, confident humans. As a family coach, Kelsey loves empowering parents with the skills and knowledge to help their kids reach their potential, all while establishing positive household dynamics around school. Prior to founding Komo, Kelsey worked with policymakers, school district leaders and teachers at the Ministry of Education (Student Achievement Division). When not working, Kelsey can be found hiking, hot yoga-ing, hanging with Rousseau (German Shepherd + constant companion) or planning and enjoying adventures around the world.

    About Andrew Fuller

Australian clinical psychologist & family therapist, ANDREW FULLER. His new book TRICKY BEHAVIOURS: Managing Challenging and Confronting Children While Staying Sane! goes on sale in North America on May 1 and I'd love to book him for an interview with you on Parenting Our Future to talk about how your listeners identify their children's challenging behaviors in a positive way – to make them feel confident and cared for.

Andrew understands that while tricky behavior can often be challenging and confronting for parents, these children are the ones that are often incredibly gifted academically or creatively and frequently grow up to be the movers and shakers of the world. Passive resistance, competitive, manipulative, aggressive, moody or argumentative traits can often disguise anxieties and stresses that children cannot articulate. The secret to transforming tricky behavior is to discover the root causes of undesirable behavior and show children how to use their abilities for good, rather than turn the home or school room into chaos. In his new book, Andrew thoroughly presents and examines all the different types of tricky behavior displayed by children of all ages; and it introduces his trusty RESOLVE acronym to help parents focus on their child's needs:

    • R – respond with respect
    • E – engage and build belonging
    • S – seek understanding
    • O – observe feelings
    • L – lower the tempo
    • V – value add
    • E - empower

Drawing upon his years of practical experience and the combined wisdom of thousands of worn-out parents, Andrew helps readers empower their children to play to their strengths and learn a range of ways to interact with the world. Showing parents and educators how to apply his techniques to redirect angry, upset, and challenging behaviors can lead children (and their guardians!) to a calmer, more patient state.

    About Renee Felice Smith

Renée Felice Smith – acclaimed actress, producer, director and writer – recently released her debut children's book HUGO AND THE IMPOSSIBLE THING via Flamingo Books/Penguin Random House, which was inspired by her real-life French Bulldog Hugo and his battle with a brain tumor. Additionally, Renée can be seen playing the role of Nell Jones in NCIS: LOS ANGELES, where she has some great Nell-centric episodes airing this month/in the upcoming months. HUGO AND THE IMPOSSIBLE THING (on sale March 30) is a gorgeous gift book with an inspiring, heart-melting message: That nothing is impossible. This is a picture book that people of all ages can relate to (whether it's overcoming fears with the help of loved ones, instilling valuable life lessons, etc.) and is also great for graduation season. With gorgeous illustrations, children and parents alike will root for Hugo (readers of Loren Long's Little Tree and Jessica Hische's Tomorrow I'll Be Brave will love it!).

Renée Felice Smith wrote and directed her first feature film, THE RELATIONTRIP, which is now available on Hulu. In 2017 THE RELATIONTRIP won the Dallas International Film Festival Grand Jury Prize and was nominated for the Nashville Film Festival Grand Jury Prize as well as SXSW Adam Yauch Hornblower and Gamechanger Awards. She is currently developing television projects with FX and Awesomeness TV. Renée's additional credits include IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, GO FISH, YOUNG(ISH) (which won the 2013 Long Island Film Festival Nell Shipman Best Directors Award) and DETACHMENT, among others.
