Rock Candy Ep. 87: Beastie Boys Part 2 - Text In All The Wrong Places Sep 25, 2019
    Show notes

This week we conclude the story of the Beastie Boys, one of the hardest working groups in not just rap or rock, but all of music. We dive into the later years of their career, when they really hit their stride and finally got the recognition they deserved. Within a decade they went from being the brains behind the amped-up classic "Sabotage" to creating an all instrumental album with some jazz-infused, post punk goodness. We finish it all up with a discussion on their untimely end that is still felt to this day and their ridiculous influence on the world of music.

So upgrade yourself to a Cookie O'Puss from Captain Lawrence Brewing and prepare yourselves because nobody, can do it, like Rock Candy can, come on!

The House List Ep. 109 : Olivia Gatwood Sep 25, 2019
    Show notes

Welcome music fans to a new show joining Pantheon - The House List!

The House List is a casual, long-form conversational show by music industry veteran Peter Agoston. Agoston got his start on terrestrial radio in 1994 and from there set off on a long journey that continues to this day. Years spent contributing print writing and photography for the likes of Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, The Source, Miami New Times, Wax Poetics and more. He also spearheaded an influential boutique record label and video magazine.

In this episode Peter chats with Olivia Gatwood, who is a world renown touring poet, she just published her second novel of essays and poems titled 'Life Of The Party' on Random House. Our host Peter Agoston sat with Olivia in Los Angeles recently to talk about her childhood - growing up in Albuquerque as well as Trinidad and Tobago. She's a skillful writer whose work traverses deeply into personal reflection. On 'Life of the Party' she uses the modern fixation of so-called "true crime" as a devise to examine how and why it is, what it is. Pretty fascinating stuff. Share this podcast if you may know someone that would be into Olivia's work. Don't forget to subscribe where ever you listen to podcasts and drop us a line at thehouselistpodcast@gmail.com - She also has a fantastic weekly podcast entitled Say More worth lending an ear to.

Make it Stop: Simple Plan - No Pads, No Helmets, Just Balls with Ellen and Larz of Palehound Sep 24, 2019
    Show notes

On this week's Make It Stop, Ellen Kempner and Larz Brogan of Palehound join us to talk about Québécois Pop Punk Pariahs Simple Plan and their contentious debut album No Pads, No Helmets, Just Balls. We get to talking about the Pop Punk generation gap and the questionable validity of adult men marketing music to pre-teen girls, and we ultimately learn the shocking truth that Palehound may not even exist if not for Avril Lavigne. Through it all we navigate the snotty, whiny posturing of Simple Plan's Pierre Bouvier and get into an intense debate between curmudgeonly punk gatekeepers and earnest lifelong fans, culminating in one of the most shocking album ratings in Make It Stop history. Life is a nightmare indeed.
