The Band: A History - Stage Fright Nov 03, 2019
    Show notes

Rick Danko stated once: “Those first royalty checks we got almost killed some of us”.

By 1970, The Band was starting to reap the rewards of their first two albums. Remember it has only been two years since the release of “Music From Big Pink”. It may feel like an elongated period of time, but The Band was a workhorse powering through producing an album yearly, while also staying busy on other projects. They were now receiving millions of dollars for the songs they wrote and performed.

Frustrating from multiple avenues were starting to creep into what The Band had established. Drugs, alcohol, money, etc. were all working towards destroying what The Band had built. With little time and a label to keep happy, as well as an attempt to push all the issues aside, The Band went back into the studio to record their third album "Stage Fright". ⁣

⁣However, it wouldn't be as easy this time. "Stage Fright" tested the group and pushed The Band to their limits. ⁣

No Filler: Grave Robbin' With The Undoing Of David Wright - Bonus Halloween Episode Oct 31, 2019
    Show notes

On this, the Eve of Hallow's, we're heading to the graveyard with shovels in hand. We bring along a Walkman and Quentin's CD copy of "We Dig With Finger's Crossed" to help set the ambiance for the evening. One of The Undoing of David Wright's only full-length albums, this little known gem from 2005 tells the story of William Burke & William Hare, the infamous 19th century grave robbers of Edinburgh, Scotland. The UoDW was an extremely short-lived post-modern electro-punk band hailing from Denton, Texas circa early 2000s. While attending college at The University of North Texas, these guys made a name for themselves for their Rocky Horror Picture Show-esque vibes, often donning makeup and wearing clothes fashioned out of trash bags.

    Episode Tracklist:

    1. We Dig With Fingers Crossed
    2. Cold Meals & Warm Whiskeys
    3. Slap Dash Street Trash
    4. By The Sign Of The Disceaux

Make it Stop: Marilyn Manson - Eat Me, Drink Me with Brittni Oct 30, 2019
    Show notes

Blow out the candles on all your Frankensteins, because it's Halloween. Time to get spooky you cowards. This time around we've got friend of the pod and recovering goth Brittni in the house to talk Marilyn Manson. We tackle his maligned 2007 release EAT ME, DRINK ME, an album which delves into his ephebophilic on-again-off-again abusive relationship with a barely legal Evan Rachel Wood in disgustingly lurid detail. When he's not caterwauling about their yucky sex stuff he's either doing baby bat madlibs, weirdly flexing about being responsible for a woman driving off of a cliff, or firing off shots at all the haters and imitators. All of this over tepid, boilerplate alt rock compositions care of a wildly overworked Tim Sköld. In all honesty this episode was supposed to be spooky in an ooky kooky kind of way, but it ended up being straight up depressing and truly horrifying. It turns out Manson is a real monster, he doesn't just play one on MTV. Stoppie discretion is advised.
