I'm In Love With That Song: Alice Cooper - 'Elected' Oct 15, 2020
    Show notes

When Alice Cooper recorded "Elected" in 1972, it was a satire about a rich, grandstanding, self-obsessed celebrity running for president. He's a "yankee doodle dandy in a gold Rolls Royce". We all laughed. That kind of thing could never happen in real life, right...?

"Elected" (Alice Cooper, Michael Bruce, Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith & Glen Buxton) Copyright 1973 Ezra Music Corporation, administered by Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC

Rock Candy Ep. 135: True Crime in Music II - 24/7 Existential Crisis Oct 15, 2020
    Show notes

We are continuing Halloween month by bringing back true crime stories, involving people in the music biz who have abused their power and influence and try to get away with some of the most heinous crimes. We tell the tales of two absolutely influential producers- first we discuss Lawrence Horn, famous for developing new layering techniques and his work with Motown. Then we give full details on a producer we mentioned recently, Phil Spector. Both may have done some amazing work that changed the world of music forever, but even that can't save their reputations from their own terrible acts.

Songfacts Podcast: South of Eden Oct 15, 2020
    Show notes

Ehab Omran is already making plans for when he blows out his voice. Right now, he can hit otherworldly notes as frontman for South Of Eden, a rock band (like, a real, unhyphenated rock in the tradition of Guns N' Roses) from Columbus, Ohio. But when he can't sing in that whistle register anymore? "If I end up sounding like Johnny Cash, then it is what it is."

Previously known as Black Coffee, South Of Eden play loud and fast and have a great time doing it. Their latest EP, The Talk, was produced by Greg Wells, whose other clients include Carrie Underwood, Twenty One Pilots and Katy Perry.

On this episode, we talk with Ehab and bassist Nick Frantianne to learn their origin story and find out how they write songs. These two have a kind of rapport that leads to jabs like Ehab accusing Nick of having "stoned thoughts even when he's not stoned," but it's underscored with heaps of respect earned during those hours in the studio.

    Long May You Young 21: Re-ac-tor Oct 14, 2020
    Show notes

Youngsters! We did it! It's our 21st episode so our podcast can now legally drink! So Mike whipped us up some Evening Coconuts and we dove deep into Re-ac-tor. A lot of mixed feelings about certain songs, but in general everyone was way into this album. The horse is back with a fury. We fight over T-bone. Luke likes it. Mike thinks it's too long. Russ is somewhere in the middle. We talk about Neil's use of the synclavier. Luke isn't wild about Southern Pacific. We compare the version of Shots on this album to some of his live acoustic versions. We share our re-ac-tions to them. (See what I did there...) Overall, this episode ain't got no t-bone. Just mashed potatoes.

Long May You Young is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcast Network! Head to PantheonPodcasts.com to check out all their great music themed shows!
