After the Deluge 6: Hold Out with Kit Rachlis and Pat Francis Feb 01, 2021
    Show notes

In episode six I talk about Hold Out with journalist, editor and longtime music critic Kit Rachlis, who wrote the original (largely critical) 1980 Rolling Stone review for the album. Kit is Senior Editor at California Sunday Magazine and our conversation starts around the 5:00 mark. You’ll also hear from Pat Francis, who hosts the Rock Solid Podcast, describes why Hold Out is special to him. That break comes at the 21:30 mark and then I jump back in with Kit.

The Career Musician Ep. 76: Beyoncé's Secret Weapon - Marta Sofia Honer Jan 31, 2021
    Show notes

It's true, per Nomad's decree, Marta Sofia Honer has been dubbed Beyoncé's Secret Weapon. But the truth is, she brings the secret sauce for a long list of serious names: Mariah Carey, BTS, Kamasi Washington, Portugal The Man, Lauren Hill and Ariana Grande. Marta is also active in the L.A. session world for film and T.V. and can be heard in the last season of The Good Place. No doubt, Marta had much to share about her many experiences in episode 76 of The Career Musician.

Pamela Des Barres' Pajama Party with Alex Winter Jan 30, 2021
    Show notes

    Welcome Alex!

Alex Winter is a director, writer and actor who has worked across film, television and theater.

Winter entered show business as a child actor with co-starring roles on Broadway in The King & I and Peter Pan, and came to prominence in movies such as Warner Bros’ hit The Lost Boys and the wildly popular Bill & Ted franchise. As a filmmaker, Winter’s narrative features include the cult classic Freaked, for 20th Century Fox and the critically acclaimed Fever, for Lionsgate, which screened in the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes.

I was lucky to be part of the just completed. Zappa, the first all-access documentary on the life and times of Frank Zappa. The Kickstarter campaign for this project was the highest funded documentary in crowdfunding history. Zappa was released on November 27 from Magnolia Pictures to widespread critical acclaim. A Critics Pick in the New York Times, Zappa was nominated for Best Music Documentary by the Critics Choice Awards.
