    The Devil's Music 20: Peter Bebergal Feb 11, 2021
    Show notes

Peter Bebergal is the author of Season Of The Witch: How The occult Saved Rock’n’Roll, Too Much To Dream: A Psychedelic American Boyhood and Strange Frequencies:The Extraordinary Story Of The Technological Quest For The Supernatural. He writes mostly about music, books and fringe culture; his essays have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Literary Supplement, Slate, and many more publications. He came of age in Boston during the height of punk rock and studied culture and religion at Harvard Divinity School. In this episode, Peter and hostess Pleasant Gehman discuss everything from vinyl records with backwards masking to vintage horror movies and the use of psychedelics and various other intoxicants to expand the human mind. There are tales of the occult involving Ozzy Osborn, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and their connection to Aleister Crowley, Jello Biafra plus Peter’s own story about calling 911 on himself in the midst of a bad acid trip.

Rock Candy Ep. 150: John Lennon Part 1 - I Promise It Was Pirates Feb 10, 2021
    Show notes

We finish up our Beatles' tales with John, the most controversial of the Fab 4. A ball of contradictions, this guy is very difficult to figure out. And for good reason. In this episode we look deep into his upbringing and his problematic family who made him the person he became. From a wonderful mother who encouraged him to find his voice in music, to a cold hearted aunt who kept him away from any joy he could find. Tragedy would push this man into the world of music where he would his footing was best kept in teamwork.

Long May You Young 38: Sleeps With Angels Feb 10, 2021
    Show notes

A beautiful and sad album from beginning to end, Sleeps With Angels has us feeling all sorts of feelings. In a rare afternoon recording session, we talk about the mournful nature of Neil's 20th studio album (and 7th with the horse) and how he's still got it well into the 90's. Dripping with melancholy, there's little to dislike. We talk about Cobain's suicide and the impact it had on this release. Russ spills a giant drink. We say the word "Change" so much on this album it becomes a new drinking game. My Heart has us all close to tears and Change Your Mind is such a great song no one minds the length. The only song that had us divided was Piece Of Crap. One of us thought it was, well, a piece of crap. Who? You'll have to listen to find out. Sleeps With Angels is not to be ignored.

The Hook Rocks New Album Spotlight: The Pretty Reckless "Death By Rock 'n' Roll" Feb 10, 2021
    Show notes

The new year is in full swing and great new rock music is afoot. With several great rock albums already released in 2021, the latest by The Pretty Reckless is next level awesomeness. An emotional journey that began after the death of Chris Cornell and friend and long time producer Kato, the band fell into a dark place and the future of the band was in jeopardy. The album "Death By Rock 'n' Roll" chronicles the process of mourning, facing inner demons, and the perseverance of facing these individual challenges while rising through them. The result is perfection. The songs connect with a spiritual vibe unlike no other. Featuring guest appearances by Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil, & Tom Morello this album will connect with the listeners emotions. Please enjoy the episode!

Performance Anxiety: Side Projects - Unplugged with Grey Daze Feb 09, 2021
    Show notes

Sean Dowdell and Mace Beyers from the band Grey Daze join the show to talk about their favorite Unplugged albums. And as luck would would have it, they are releasing their own acoustic EP called Amends...Stripped. It’s acoustic versions of five tracks from their recent album Amends. Grey Daze was Chester Bennington’s band before he shot to stardom in Linkin Park. It’s a rare chance to hear someone on the precipice of explosive success in a stripped down version. It’s a limited release so I suggest grabbing a copy before they’re gone. Follow the band @greydazeofficial. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. Subscribe, rate, review, buy us a coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch is at performanceanx.threadless.com. Now let’s light some candles, unplug everything, and check out Sean and Mace of Grey Daze on Performance Anxiety, part of the Pantheon Podcast Network.
