Decibel Geek 440: Best Firsts Feb 18, 2021
    Show notes

This week we're talking about bands that never topped their debut with Best Firsts! While many legendary bands take a few albums to fully find their footing, there are certain cases where the artist put their best foot forward on their debut album. Bear in mind, these are purely our opinions and your mileage may vary but we feel pretty confident in our picks this week. In this episode we talk about many well-known rock and metal artists and there's no easy way to not spoil it here in these notes. Did we get it right? Are we way off on some of these? Should we have our heads examined after listening to this episode? Listen and comment below and tell us!

We also share some new updates on ROCKNPOD Weekend taking place in Nashville August 6-8th. Get your tickets, VIP, podcast registration, and discounted hotel rooms at www.rocknpod.com!

The Band: A History - Northern Lights - Southern Crosses Feb 18, 2021
    Show notes

“It took us coming in there to get them all in the studio with one another because there was a lot of bitching” Clapton reminisces about The Band’s state of mind in 1975.

For all the success The Band had, The group was never truly able to become that cohesive group that they once were. Like timeless other examples in other bands, priorities were different, opinions were divided and drugs and alcohol blurred the lines even further.

Would the group be able to put aside their differences momentarily to go into their new studio and put together an album?

Shout It Out Loudcast: Album Review Crew - "Odyssey" Feb 18, 2021
    Show notes

On the 15th Episode of the Album Review Crew, Tom & Zeus & Sonny review the 1988 album by guitar legend, Yngwie Malmsteen, Odyssey. This is the guitarist's 4th album and his highest charting album to date. Ynwgie enlists singer Joe Lynn Turner and retains the Johansson brothers, Jens & Anders on keyboards and drums respectively. This was Yngwie's most ambitious commercial attempt for mainstream success. The album is filled with Yngwie's wizardry and JLT's smooth melodic vocals.

As usual the guys breakdown the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and album cover against the previous 13 albums review on the Album Review Crew Episodes.

So Hold On and look into your Crystal Ball because there's a Rising Force coming Faster Than The Speed Of Light or maybe its Deja Vu or you are Dreaming, but Now Is The Time for you to Bite The Bullet and have a Riot In the Dungeons and escape before the mighty Krakatau makes Memories of us all and we can be in Heaven Tonight.

Or maybe it's just that damn bumble bee!

Rock Candy Ep. 151: John Lennon Part 2 - Art Student Meet Cute Feb 17, 2021
    Show notes

We're wrapping up our Beatlestravaganza with the later years of Mr. John Lennon. We really rip open the onion that is this complicated human and discuss how to truly separate the artist from the art. We also realize that each Beatle tells the same story, but completely differently and talk about how being a rad dad reflects poorly on the kids. Here we are at the end, and we feel pretty confident that our opinions on these 4 are pretty solid. And we never want to read another book about them.

Make It Stop: Green Day - Father of all... (w/ Ben Stein) Feb 17, 2021
    Show notes

In 1994 three meth addled young punks from Oakland released an album that changed the musical landscape for decades, building the bridge that shepherded California pop punk from the fringes to the mainstream. 26 years and 10 albums later as, presumably, meth addled old punks, they released an album that changed nothing but the minds of longtime fans holding out one last hope for a return to form, shepherding soulless hockey anthems from the pro tools interface to the rink to the graveyard. Green Day’s Father of All Motherfuckers was an easy pick for our worst of 2020 list, and as lifelong Green Day apologists we figured it warranted a deep dive. We’re joined by friend of the show and ska trumpeter Ben Stein. The album clocks in at a paltry 26 minutes, but it packs enough nostalgia-shattering trauma over that span to make basket cases of us all.

Long May You Young 39: Dylan Vs. Neil (with John Craigie) Feb 17, 2021
    Show notes

On this week's monster episode (cue x-files theme) we got to talk to the incredibly talented singer/songwriter John Craigie. We talk songwriting, favorite Neil albums, stealing weed from Todd Snyder, and we dabble in the ever popular topic of Dylan vs. Neil. John's released an album last year called Asterisk The Universe and it's a damn masterpiece. Everyone should check it out. Special thanks to Matt Lacorazza (the gracious youngster himself) for guest hosting with Luke and Mike. Russ was getting another surgery, we think.
