Long May You Young 43. Dead Man Mar 17, 2021
    Show notes

It's been a long December (through March) and here we are now at the Dead Man soundtrack! A film scored exclusively by Neil Young. Obviously not quite as long of an episode this time. We talk soundtracks, scores. Get in a heated debate about what does and doesn't belong in the top ten songs of all time. Luke does some heavy breathing. Russ gives us his take on how he thinks Jim's pitch meeting probably went. Mike is the only one of us who's seen another Jarmusch film, and Luke and Russ don't say it, but they're embarrassed. Also, this is another zoom episode so the quality isn't the best. Apologies in advance. Maybe the next show will be better than the last...

WE CAN'T WAIT TO GET TO BROKEN ARROW.

Goldmine: The Alarm's Mike Peters Mar 16, 2021
    Show notes

The Alarm have recently released their album WAR (RAW in reverse), led by vocalist Mike Peters. Peters' lyrics are extremely on topic as he explores the anger and chaos of the last five years, from Brexit to the Capitol riots, the use of social media as a propaganda tool (as the song “Protect and Survive” sounds the alarm of “280 ways to start a war!”), all the way through the continuing pandemic. It makes for a lively conversation, as samples from the album are played and classic Alarm songs like “Strength” and “Rain in the Summertime” are discussed, among other things. Listen up!

The Band: A History - Interview -Jan Høiberg Mar 16, 2021
    Show notes

The Band: A History sits down with Jan Høiberg, the curator and owner of https://theband.hiof.no, the number one resource for all things Band related. Started in 1994, the website grew to become the official website of The Band. As years passed Jan became friendly with Band members Rick Danko, Levon Helm and Garth Hudson, travelling to Woodstock, New York on several occasions.

Høiberg has run the website from Norway for over twenty-seven years, and his obsession as an eighteen year old kid seeing The Last Waltz in 1980 has led to to creating one the finest resources on the web.

No Filler: Sleep's Holy Mountain: Bridging Metal's Past & Future Mar 16, 2021
    Show notes

Legend has it that Tony Iommi himself once claimed that Sleep's Holy Mountain was the album that best encompassed the feel and spirit of Black Sabbath's Volume 4. Whether he said it or not is up for debate, but one thing is for certain: Sleep's embrace of the blues-leaning metal style of Sabbath's early sound oozes out of the sludgy, doom-paced stoner metal that Sleep helped define in this seminal record. So join the magic caravan or ride the crimson dragon as we kick back and slow head bang our way through a record that paved the way for the rise of stoner and doom metal in the 21st century.

    Tracklist:

    1. Black Sabbath - Cornucopia
    2. Sleep - Dragonaut
    3. Sleep - The Druid
    4. Sleep - Holy Mountain
    5. Kyuss - Demon Cleaner
    6. Black Sabbath - Snowblind (Sleep cover)

I'm In Love With That Song: The Ohio Players - "Fire" Mar 16, 2021
    Show notes

The Ohio Players paid their dues for 15 years before their first #1 Top 100 hit, but by then, they were on fire (pun intended). Built on an incessant groove that won't quit, they brought heavy funk to the top of the pop charts. On this episode, we take a look at all the elements that make up this funky classic.

Deep Dive- An All Music Books Podcast Ep. 48: Roadiecare.com with Sandy Espinoza & Tom Weber Mar 15, 2021
    Show notes

This is the fiftieth episode of our Deep Dive podcast and we’re going to use this occasion to stretch out a little bit. Today, we’re going to talk about a real-life music story that is unfolding before our very eyes. In real time. COVID has decimated the music industry, and nowhere moreso than the men and women behind the scenes of live concert performances. The lighting guys, the techs, the sound guys, the people who build the stages — the roadies.

Sandy Espinoza formed roadiecare.com to try and help the millions of people out of work. While we may not be able to enjoy concerts, these people have no jobs and few places to turn. Tom Weber was Eddie Van Halen’s long-time guitar tech and recently lost his guitar repair shop because he couldn’t pay the rent. Their stories are sometimes hard to listen to — and not because we were “Zoom Bombed" by a rogue accordion playing “My Way.” But it’s a story that needs to be told and heard. Hopefully, we can all help write a better ending for these unsung heroes of live music.

Performance Anxiety: Derek Day Mar 15, 2021
    Show notes

It’s not everyday that an artist comes out of the blue to make me pause. Derek Day did exactly that. He started out playing on the street in Santa Monica doing over 70 different cover songs. Now he’s writing and recording with artists like Vernon Reid and opening for Living Colour, Ted Nugent, & Steve Vai. He has so much energy on stage and in everyday life. I’m so glad we met and I really look forward to the day I can catch a live show of his. His career is snowballing! I recommend checking him out now so you can always say “I’ve known about Derek FOREVER!” Follow him @derekdaymusic on social media. Check out his latest single, Fine Lines on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube or wherever you check out newmusic. Follow us @PerformanceAnx, merch is at performanceanx.threadless.com, buy us a non committal cup of coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. And please rate & review the show no matter where you listen. It really does help. So buckle up because this is one energetic show with Derek Day on Performance Anxiety on the Pantheon Podcast Network.

    Show notes

We're back this week to talk all the rock news that's fit to spit with New Noize v14! Some of the new stories covered this week range from the redundant to the bizarre. Gene Simmons is continuing to die on the 'Rock is Dead' hill. He recently doubled down on his comments in an interview. However, when you take a look at the full context of what he's saying, you'll get a different understanding. In related news, Paul Stanley was asked about his KISS partners' comments and has a different take on the subject. We break it all down in this episode.

Motley Crue's 'Time for Change' is being used in a new commercial for Delta faucets. Huh? We share the details and our thoughts on Motley's answer to 'We Are the World' in this episode.

John Bush was recently asked about his desire to do a tour performing his Anthrax-era material. With things beginning to look hopeful for concerts again, he shares his thoughts on it and we share our thoughts as well this week.

Other topics covered in this New Noize episode include Oz Fox's recent brain surgery, Nikki Sixx warning against eBay bootleggers, Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing' hitting over a billion streams on Spotify and much more!

We hope you enjoy New Noize v14 and SHARE with a friend!
