I'm In Love With That Song: The Kinks - "Shangri-La" Oct 01, 2021
    Show notes

In the novel Lost Horizon, Shangri-La is the mystical, hidden paradise of legend. In the The Kinks song, it's the name given to the humble home of Arthur, the main character in Ray Davies' concept album/rock opera Arthur (Or The Decline and Fall of The British Empire). Written as the accompaniment for a TV movie that was never produced, Arthur still stands as one of The Kinks' best works, and "Shangri-La" is the stand-out track from this album.

Well, it just so happens that on his 30th birthday, yep, the exact day, he got his chance.

Shout It Out Loudcast: Album Review Crew - "Ten" Sep 30, 2021
    Show notes

On the 23rd Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus 7 Sonny review the 1991 legendary debut album from Pearl Jam, "Ten."

This landmark album is considered one of the greatest debut albums of all time. It is a "grunge" classic that helped define an era, the "Seattle Sound" and has sold over 13 million albums in the US alone.

Picking up from the ashes of Mother Love Bone, guitarist Stone Gossard, bassist Jeff Ament added guitarist extraordinaire Mike McCready and one of a kind singer/songwriter Eddie Vedder. Drummer Dave Krusen was the short term drummer that rounded our the lineup that recorded this epic album which was also produced by Rick Parashar.

The ARC discuss the album's incredible guitars, vocals and lyrics along with the PJ's impact on them and the 1990's. The album boasts many classic songs like Alive, Jeremy, Black, Even Flow and more. Their videos showcase the intensity of the band and their incredible lyrics, especially the award winning Jeremy video.

This was Tom's pick and as usual the guys breakdown the tracks and rank the songs. The boys then rank the album and album cover against the previous 21 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew Episodes.

See if Sonny gets left out on the PORCH and is still ALIVE after this DEEP episode!

    See Hear 89: Rock & Rule Sep 30, 2021
    Show notes

Say you're in a band, and you're struggling to get your songs performed because the self-appointed leader is a narcissistic arsehole. Then along comes an aging mega rock star who offers you a gig to sing for him so he can summon a demon from another dimension...

    It's a common showbiz tale....

Welcome to episode 89 of See Hear.

Tim, Bernie and Maurice sit at the virtual round table to talk about the 1983 animated feature Rock & Rule developed by Canadian animation house, Nelvana (later known for The Care Bears Movie). The film is set in a dystopian future where earth's occupants are animals mutated into humans (because ya know....anthropomorphic animals in cartoons....) The one thing that hasn't changed is that band in fighting still exists and aging rock stars still have massive egos.

We talk about the history of Nelvana, Faustian tales (of which this isn't quite one), King Features, animation for adults vs animation for kids, major studio interference, and the soundtrack of this film featuring Cheap Trick, Debbie Harry, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and Earth Wind and Fire.

What did we think? Tune in and find out.

The film is available to watch in it's entirety on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knENwlh0FFA.

If you’ve been enjoying the show, please consider giving us a favourable review on iTunes and let your friends know that our show exists. If you don't enjoy the show, tell your adversaries to tune in. We don't care who listens.....

Performance Anxiety: Paul Claro (Cinema Cinema) Sep 29, 2021
    Show notes

I’m joined by drummer Paul Claro. Paul is one half of the band Cinema Cinema. He is also related to the other half of Cinema Cinema, guitarist and noisemaker, Ev Gold. Together they form one of the most avant garde bands recording today. Paul tells me all about wanting to be in a band with Ev ever since he was a little kid.

Paul got a feel for being a musician early. In high school, his jazz band played in a lot of competitions and even toured Japan! That’s about the same time he went from being the music nerd in his school to the cool drummer who was in three different bands.

The duo of Paul and Ev began as a backing band for some music Paul’s dad was recording. The magic was undeniable and the cousins have been playing together ever since. They have just released CCXMDII; a recording they did with jazz musician Matt Darriau. Paul discusses those sessions and what is next for Cinema Cinema. Follow them on social media @cinemacinema on Twitter & @cinemacinemaband on IG. Pick up CCXMD & CCXMDII wherever you get music. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on social media. You can help support the show on ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety or buy merch at performanceanx.threadless.com Follow @PantheonPods and check out all the other great shows on the network. Tunes & Tumblers: Mating Ritual and a Pineapple Lady (feat. Mating Ritual) Sep 29, 2021
    Show notes

Summer is gone, but we're still fitting in one last hurrah. Zooming in all the way from poolside in Palm Springs, Brothers Ryan and Taylor Lawhon of LA indie pop duo Mating Ritual toast us to their latest album Songs for the Morning and the Evening Times. While the rest of the Northern Hemisphere is busy fishing their cardigan sweaters out of the back of their closets and rushing down to 7-Eleven to pour pumpkin spice Slurpees directly into their mouths, we're knocking back refreshing (and smoldering) Pineapple Ladies. Just don't asking the dudes of Mating Ritual where these cocktails get their names. LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, SHARE and as always, cheers!

Listen to Songs for the Morning and the Evening Times by Mating Ritual

    Pineapple Lady

    • 2oz Spiced Rum
    • 2oz Pink Lemonade

Long May You Young 58: Summer Wrap-up / Patreon Announcement / Workin' Men (Rush Podcast) Sep 29, 2021
    Show notes

Spoiler alert: There is almost zero Neil Young talk in this episode. Also - THIS ONE IS RIDICULOUS. If this is your first time tuning in - sorry.

Mike couldn't make it this week, but Russ and Luke were near the equipment anyway so they thought they'd record a little something to show you they didn't forget about you and to let you know this is the end of their lackadaisical summer. Listen. We know we've been scarce. But that ends in October! Oh and we have a Patreon now! Patreon.com/longmayyouyoung is the place to get maximum content from now on.

Also, our old buddy Laco was in town so he hopped in and we premiered our first episode of our new RUSH podcast - Workin' Men! We've wanted to do a Rush podcast for a while, but we just didn't know if Mike would be interested. Since he wasn't around , we thought we'd talk about their first album while he was out this week.
