Performance Anxiety: Kevin Armstrong (David Bowie, Iggy Pop) Feb 18, 2022
    Show notes

Guitarist Kevin Armstrong has had an extraordinary career, even though it was nothing like he thought it would be. His promising solo career dissipated pretty quickly after one disastrous gig. But when one door closes, another one opens. Almost immediately after that gig, he got a phone call to do some guitar work. It turned out that artist was David Bowie. The sessions ended with Kevin and David working out the title track for Absolute Beginners together. Kevin would find himself in Bowie’s orbit for years to come. That would lead to working with Iggy Pop and Morrissey. I haven’t even mentioned the great work he’s done with Thomas Dolby, Live Aid, Mick Jagger, & Paul McCartney. And then there’s his solo album, Run. Follow Kevin @kevarmst on social media. Pick up his music on bandcamp or kevin-armstrong.com Follow us @PerformanceAnx on the socials. Support through ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety or performanceanx.threadless.com is always appreciated. Without further delay, Kevin Armstrong on Performance Anxiety, part of the Pantheon Podcast Network.

Crime in Music 75: I'm David Lee Roth and I"ll Jinx Left on a Guy w/ a Weekend Haircut! Feb 18, 2022
    Show notes

We're talking about the Yankee Rose himself, it's Diamond David Lee Roth! As we are celebrating our Diamond Jubilee Episode it only seemed right to talk about the myth, the man, the legend El Roth. Being born in Indiana, USA, Dave was miles away from his dreams and his future on the West Coast. As a child, Dave would entertain his family by singing along with the radio and dancing like the stars he'd seen at his uncle's club, the Cafe Wha in Greenwich Village, where Dave spent his summers. In his teens he and his family moved to Pasadena, California, home of the Van Halen brothers. It wasn't too long before their paths crossed and eventually one of the world's greatest rock bands would come together.

After an amazing run with the Van Halen brothers, Dave decided to give a solo career a go! After several failed attempts to rejoin Van Halen, Dave actually got his wish and rejoin the super group as lead singer. We talk about some stories from his years on the road, the reason no brown M&Ms were allowed backstage and the best place in NYC to buy Jamaican Bunk reefer. He's been a puppet, pirate, a poet, a pauper, a pawn and a king, it's the King of Crotch & Roll, David Lee "El Roth" Roth!
