    Dagon Aug 02, 2012

Today on the 5: I recently watched the 2001 H.P. Lovecraft inspired film Dagon. The director is Stuart Gordon, of Re-Animator fame, so i was expecting something different. I got exactly that, but I'm not sure it worked out the way I thought it would.

    Outdated Reasoning Aug 01, 2012

Today on the 5: As a companion to yesterday's 5, I look at one of the central arguments that often is used to argue against gun control. Defense against authority is typically cited as one of many reasons why the right to bear arms is so vital. While the argument once carried a lot of merit, haven't we moved past the point where a gun will keep you safe from the government?

Today on the 5: Last week Lando and I talked about the issue of gun control, specifically how it it inevitably brought up when a maniac decides to shoot up a public location. As I've thought about it, and seen all the mentions of it over the weekend, I keep wondering whether the public debate is just an empty argument.

    American Bloat Jul 30, 2012
    Show notes

Today on the 5: I've just finished watching the American version of Sasuke, the Japanese sports competition where hundreds attempt to conquer a physically punishing obstacle course. The Japanese version stressed individual achievement, but without the added need to beat the other competitors, which made it great to watch as you could cheer for everyone competing. Naturally, the American version decided to crap all over those qualities.

    Journey Jul 26, 2012

Today on the 5: In addition to playing the Undead Nightmare add-on for RDR, I've started playing through the critically acclaimed PSN game Journey. It's one of a number of games that look to throw out a lot of the traditional game conventions in favor of creating a memorable experience. Mission accomplished.

    Undead Nightmare Jul 25, 2012
    Show notes

Today on the 5: I'm taking a bit of a siesta from the main campaign of Red Dead Redemption to play the add-on campaign Undead Nightmare. I was wondering if Rockstar tacking on a zombie conversion to the main game would come off as a cheap gimmick of a rapidly wearing trend, but I'm happy to say it's a great experience so far.

The Incredible Melting Man Jul 24, 2012
    Show notes

Today on the 5: My review of a true snapshot of time, the 1977 film The Incredible Melting Man. I can't tell you it's a good movie, but I would recommend watching it if only to see how many ways a movie can fail in 90 minutes.

    Cult Films Jul 23, 2012
    Show notes

Today on the 5: I'm asking you guys to recommend some quality (or not so quality) cult films for me to put on my watch list. I'm looking for gems like Street Trash or The Stuff, movies that have been forgotten either because they are too out there for most people or they fall into the "so bad it's good" arena. What should be next on my list?
