More heartbreak for UNC baseball | NCAA’s $2.8 Billion House Settlement will hurt non-revenue sports | Rodgers & Steelers marriage of convenience | OG396 Jun 09, 2025
    Show notes

Offseason protocols? What offseason protocols! Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio open things up with a Grand Slam final so good it hooked everyone to watch. Same goes for college baseball, where the Tar Heels found another heartbreaking way to lose. Between leaving runners stranded and overthinking situations with the shift, North Carolina fell short of another College World Series appearance. ESPN's Brooke Pryor joined the podcast to discuss Aaron Rodgers finally joining the Pittsburgh Steelers. What does it say about Mike Tomlin that he would invite the chaos agent into the locker room? What does it say about the Aaron Rodgers that the Steelers were the only team willing to work with him? And what's it say about Bill Belichick that we're still focused on the gossip? In the Lightning Round, the Stanley Cup features some MFers and the NBA is caught up in all sorts of weird ancillary things. The House settlement is officially official. Is this the end of college sports as we know it or just the beginning?

Alex Kirshner, from Split Zone Duo, joins the podcast to discuss whether or not all the Bill Belichick gossip has turned into an actual football problem. Plus! Giglio's social media dump.

Hubert Davis set up for make or break season at UNC | Webb Wellman on the lost art of the basketball mixtape | OG394 Jun 04, 2025
    Show notes

Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio open the podcast with the news North Carolina spent $14 million on their roster for the upcoming basketball season. The way InsideCarolina and others have framed the investment raised an eyebrow for Ovies. Is Hubert Davis being set up to make the argument for his dismissal if the Heels don't breakthrough? Speaking of hoops, the highlight mixtape is a dying art. Webb Wellman, director of the John Wall Holiday Invitational, joined the podcast to discuss how he pioneered the mixtape and how much the recruitment game has changed.

    Show notes

Head coach Rod Brind'Amour sat down with the guys to discuss what he felt was one of the better seasons in franchise history given the context of the full year. However, they still came up short of the Stanley Cup goal. How is Brind'Amour processing another Eastern Conference Finals exit, dealing with disgruntled fans for the first time as a head coach, and how will the Canes go about getting to a higher level. He also discusses the process of getting Alexander Nikishin into the games. GM Eric Tulsky then joined the podcast to discuss the different philosophy going into this offseason compared to the last.

College World Series is hardest tournament to win | Ven-Allen Lubin to NC State breaking brains | Lightning Round | OG391 Jun 02, 2025
    Show notes

The Stanley Cup Playoffs might be the most physically demanding sports tournament to win, but the NCAA baseball tournament might be the hardest overall thanks to the randomness of college pitching. Ovies and Giglio open the show with a little SEC schadenfreude, while also highlighting just how wild it is for some of these teams to have exited the tournament so early. The Athletic's Brendan Marks joins the show to celebrate "Belichick June 1st Contract Day" and take a look at these finalized basketball rosters for Triangle teams. Ven-Allen Lubin might've broken the brains of some fans, but it's just the nature of the business these days. In the Lightning Round, the guys process "Inside The NBA" moving to ESPN, playing football in a dome, and Giglio's crazy new idea for social media. You'll also want to hear the best OG Sports Phone call regarding Rod Brind'Amour and the Carolina Hurricanes.

SEC "Reality Distortion Field" will destroy college football | Today in Bill Belichick | UNC Heath Championship | OG390 May 28, 2025
    Show notes

Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio are at the UNC Health Championship at Raleigh Country Club and have a lot to get into today -- because they've spent most of the week focused on the Carolina Hurricanes. They start things off with SEC commish Greg Sankey saying the college football world is too wrapped up in the idea of "not losing" instead of more important matters, like who got to play Georgia. Ironic considering Sankey is very much concerned with winning the battle for the heart and soul of college football. The discourse goes beyond the College Football Playoff format and has everything to do with the SEC wanting to control every aspect of the sport. Staying in the world of college sports, Pablo Torre says he's going to sue UNC if the university doesn't comply with is records requests. Giglio explains why it isn't that simple. Meanwhile, in the Lightning Round, the guys hit on the Carolina Panthers and the NBA Playoffs. The podcast closes with a few OG Sports Phone calls on the Canes.
