UNC AD Bubba Cunningham on ACC future, 'Carolina North' & coaching fits | Should the Carolina Panthers trade for Trey Hendrickson? | Shopping cart archery | 8.20 Aug 20, 2025

Show notes

Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio spend 30 minutes with UNC AD Bubba Cunningham, starting with a hypothetical — what would 2025 Bubba tell 2011 Bubba? They dig into UNC’s future in the ACC, the idea of a new basketball arena in ‘Carolina North,’ Hubert Davis’ expectations, and how Bill Belichick fits into the Tar Heels’ football plans. The guys then pivot to the NFL: why a Carolina Panthers trade for Cincinnati’s Trey Hendrickson isn’t realistic, why they think Indianapolis is tanking for Arch Manning, and why the national media just can’t stop dumping on Dallas Cowboys fans. Plus -- y'all serious about a shopping cart archery competition?

Tom Dundon buys Trail Blazers: Impact on Carolina Hurricanes & NC MLB expansion | Why UNC lacks preseason hype | Bryce Young vs. CJ Stroud | OG Sports Phone | 8.14 Aug 14, 2025

Show notes

With Giglio out, Lauren Brownlow joins Joe Ovies to kick things off with a little non-sports TV talk before football takes over. The conversation shifts to the Carolina Panthers’ preseason, including why the CJ Stroud vs. Bryce Young debate has fizzled after Stroud’s sophomore slump. N&O columnist Luke DeCock stops by to break down Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon buying the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers — why he chose Portland over the Charlotte Hornets, what it means for the Canes, and how it boosts his push for an MLB team in North Carolina. Later, Tar Heel 24/7’s Andrew Jones explains why UNC isn’t getting preseason buzz despite having Bill Belichick as head coach, and why their opener vs. TCU could be pivotal for both the team and the fan base.

ESPN wants one streaming app to rule all | Why Howard Stern needs the podcast world more than it needs him | OG Business Aug 12, 2025

Show notes

Joe Ovies and Demetri Ravanos break down why ESPN’s streaming bundle with Fox is less about collaboration and more about Disney’s plan to dominate sports streaming in a single app. They push back on Pablo Torre’s claim that ESPN “let billions walk out the door” in podcasts, and turn their attention to Howard Stern. The so-called King of All Media may finally be facing a reality check — the podcast industry has thrived without him, and now he needs it more than ever.
