    Show notes

Demetri Ravanos fills in for Giglio on the latest Ovies & Giglio, and the guys dive right into how wild this college football hiring cycle could get. They ask the big question: are coaches OK? LSU’s Brian Kelly is apologizing to reporters, while Clemson’s Dabo Swinney went on a 13-minute rant after a simple question about losing to Georgia Tech. Is Dabo actually feeling heat, or just projecting?

The Ringer’s Joel Anderson joins the show to weigh in on Bill Belichick’s dwindling national relevance, and whether Arch Manning was ever truly the generational talent he was hyped to be. Plus, the guys debate if Tom Brady’s NFL business interests and the Clippers’ alleged cap dodge are a big deal or no deal.

Steve Smith blasts Charlotte as a “weak ass city” over Carolina Panthers fans | Not all 0-2 NFL teams are the same | Social Media Dump | 9.16 Sep 16, 2025
    Show notes

In this episode of Ovies & Giglio, an amusing grocery store run-in that perfectly sums up how NC State fans feel about Dave Doeren — even when the Wolfpack are winning, it doesn’t always feel that way. But no fan base is more down bad than those in Charlotte right now. The Carolina Panthers are 0-2, the vibes are awful, and even former WR Steve Smith is roasting the city, calling it a “weak ass” sports town on WFNZ. Spectrum News’ Mike Solarte joins the show to break down where things stand with the Panthers, whether there’s any path back to optimism in Charlotte, and remembers some Carolina Hurricanes dudes. Duke struggles, another empty Belichick win | Panthers, Canales & Young out of sync, out of time | Virginia Tech resets again | 9.15 Sep 15, 2025
    Show notes

In this episode of Ovies & Giglio, the guys dig into Duke football’s back-to-back missed opportunities against quality opponents and another “empty calorie” win for Bill Belichick at UNC. They shift to Clemson’s loss at Georgia Tech, where the Yellow Jackets deserve all the credit, but Dabo Swinney still has plenty to answer for as the Tigers look set to fall short of their own lofty standard again.

Plus, why LSU’s Brian Kelly could take a page from Zen Dave Doeren’s playbook, and David Teel joins the show to break down what’s gone wrong at Virginia Tech — and if the Hokies even have the financial commitment to finally climb out of 15 years stuck in the mud.

In the NFL, the Carolina Panthers were the architects of their own demise again. Head coach Dave Canales and QB Bryce Young are not in sync, and something's gotta give this season. Meanwhile, there's some serious questions about Kansas City after another eye-opening loss.

OG Mailbag: Is Doeren a 'Disney Adult' the way he's got NC State riding rollercoasters? Sep 12, 2025
    Show notes

Ovies & Giglio fire up the OG Mailbag and take you on the ultimate Wolfpack roller coaster. With the help of the OG Sports Phone, they revisit NC State fan calls from the lows of Wake Forest being up a couple scores to the highs of Dave Doeren pulling the “Negativity Wagon” across the finish line. The guys also dive into your questions about why Giglio thinks Doeren will trade out the coaching headset for a fishing rod after this season, Bill Belichick’s actual level of giving a crap at UNC, proper football fan etiquette in the stands, and whether Arch Manning is just Mitch Trubisky 2.0. Plus, plenty more from the OG faithful.

NC State, UNC & Duke: Week 3 ACC football picks | NC Rabbit Hole investigates 'Aye Zigga Zoomba' | 9.11 Sep 11, 2025
    Show notes

It's time for another Butcher's Market OG Live. In this episode of Ovies & Giglio, the guys are live at Longleaf Swine in Raleigh ahead of NC State's trek to Wake Forest. They'll get into that matchup and more, including another "figure it out" game for UNC and a homecoming of sorts for Duke QB Darian Mensah. Giglio has some wagering advice for the rest of the ACC. NC Rabbit Hole's Jeremy Markovich dropped by the studio for a deep dive into how "Aye Zigga Zoomba" wound up being used as a rally song for the Tar Heels. While the song's history can be traced back to WWII, it took an odd route from Bowling Green State University to Chapel Hill thanks to one interesting individual.

Spencer Hall on appreciating Doeren, whether Belichick matters | SEC complaining about B1G is rich | How NIL is impacting youth hockey | 9.10 Sep 10, 2025
    Show notes

Ovies & Giglio kick things off with the ACC basketball schedule and how the league keeps chipping away at the core matchups fans actually care about. From there, they pivot to the NCAA Oversight Committee’s push for a single transfer portal window in college football — something some coaches want and others hate.

The guys also dive into the latest spin from college coaches blaming “free-flowing money” for lost leverage, a talking point that doesn’t hold up under real context. Shutdown Fullcast’s Spencer Hall joins the show to explain why NC State head coach Dave Doeren shouldn’t be catching strays when his tenure deserves more credit, plus his take on Bill Belichick’s UNC era and the looming SEC coaching carousel.

Later, NC State IcePack head coach Tim Healy stops by the studio to break down how NIL is reshaping college hockey — and what that could mean for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Are fans overreacting to Carolina Panthers Week 1 loss? | College QBs vs. NFL QBs | Social Media Dump Sep 09, 2025
    Show notes

Ovies & Giglio kick things off by remembering some football dudes after JJ McCarthy led a Monday Night Football comeback for the Vikings. Winning a national championship doesn’t always guarantee NFL QB greatness—and Ovies argues it’s really about the league scrambling to find a new golden age of quarterbacks now that only Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson remain at the top.

The guys then zero in on the Carolina Panthers with WFNZ’s Walker Mehl, breaking down the biggest losers from their embarrassing opener in Jacksonville and asking whether fans are overreacting to the slow start.

Plus: a social media dump, your OG Sports Phone calls, and more.

Doeren’s "Complementary Football 2.0" at NC State, Duke’s costly mistakes vs Illinois & Belichick’s petty UNC win | Same ol' Panthers fall flat, frustrate fans | OG Sports Phone | 9.08 Sep 08, 2025
    Show notes

The latest episode of Ovies & Giglio kicks off with college football takeaways — NC State’s win over Virginia, Duke’s missed opportunity against Illinois, and some yellow flags popping up despite UNC’s victory over Charlotte.

The guys pivot to the NFL, where the Carolina Panthers delivered another flat Week 1 performance. So much for the supposed “Panthers symmetry” of going from a losing season to a Super Bowl run after opening against Jacksonville and seeing Ohio State win the national title. Meanwhile, Buffalo and Baltimore look like the true contenders to dethrone Kansas City after the Chiefs stumbled in their opener.

N&O’s Shelby Swanson also joins the show to break down Bill Belichick’s first win as UNC’s head coach — and his ongoing, petty beef with the New England Patriots. Plus, your OG Sports Phone calls.

    TIMESTAMPS:

    00:00 - NC State's new complimentary football

Bill Belichick’s Patriots grudge is sabotaging UNC? | 'Salty Dave' back at NC State? | Canes uniform reviews | OG Mailbag Sep 05, 2025
    Show notes

In this edition of Ovies & Giglio's OG Mailbag, the guys dig into your burning questions — starting with Bill Belichick reportedly banning New England Patriots scouts from UNC practices and games. Is his ego and arrogance the very thing holding the Tar Heels back from operating like a real college football program? And speaking of coaching legends, is the ghost of Bill Walsh quietly reminding everyone he’s still the GOAT?

Elsewhere in the mailbag: can “Salty Dave” Doeren really pull a magical season out of a red solo cup at NC State? Why are some fans hating on the new Carolina Hurricanes uniforms? And what will it take to truly pack Wallace Wade for Duke football? All that, plus more wild questions only the OG listeners can deliver.
