    Outsmart Overeating

You know exactly what to do. You’ve read the books, created the meal plans, promised yourself tomorrow would be different. But you’re burned out—running a career, a household, everyone else’s needs but your own—and somewhere along the way, food stopped being something that adds to your life and became something that runs it.

I’m Leslie Hooper, and on Outsmart Overeating, my co-host Steph Miramontes and I go straight to the psychology… not another hack, not another dead-end diet, but the actual psychological reasons that are keeping you stuck.

EPISODE 183: Permanent Weight Loss in 2023: 3 Clients Share How They've Kept the Weight Off for 2+ Years Jan 02, 2023
    Show notes

    WELP!

It's finally here. The moment we've all been waiting for…

Okay, maybe it's not the moment YOU'VE been waiting for, but it's definitely the moment I've been waiting for!

Today, I'm making good on a promise.

I often talk about how I'm not interested in helping clients lose weight for a wedding, a vacation, or a reunion. Nope! I only created my psychology-based weight loss program, Unstuffed, so I could help people lose weight and keep it off…forever!

In other words, my Unstuffed was created after investing thousands of dollars and hours researching and learning about the successful 5%. If 95% of dieters fail, what are the 5% doing to keep their weight off long-term? What do THEY know that the rest of us don't?!

So today, I've got a very special episode for you.

Talk is cheap. I'd rather show you that my program works. And to do so, I've invited 3 former clients back to the podcast for an update. Each of these ladies have been out of the program for 2+ years and they're ready to dish on everything that's happened post-program.

    • Did they regain their weight?
    • Are they back to emotional and binge eating?
    • What have been some of their biggest obstacles?
    • What advice do they wish they would have known when they first started this journey?

No two dieters are the same and they all have different challenges, backgrounds, habits, lifestyles, and emotional eating struggles.

If you're feeling frustrated with your lack of progress and don't know what else to do, you'll resonate with these women and their stories. You'll also learn the psychological shifts and strategies that allowed them to get unstuck, so you can too.

You don't want to miss this fascinating episode with returning clients Maddie, Abi, and Jessie.

EPISODE 182: How to Choose the Right Mentor for Success in 2023 Dec 26, 2022
    Show notes

The right mentorship for you has a lot to do with the current level of your experience with hunger directed eating as a weight loss method. Beginners, intermediates, and advanced individuals have different education levels, skills and priorities. The mentor you choose to guide you and help you should match that.

The first rule: you want to be working with someone who has done the same thing you want to do. In this episode, Coaches Leslie and Steph explain the best strategies to choose the right mentor as you embark on your new goals for 2023. "Find the person who has the playbook that you need access to and pay them whatever it is to get access to it." – Jill Coleman Connect with Leslie:

The real reason you feel out of control around food (hint: you're not addicted), and how understanding your inner psychology will change the game. Do you have a resolution for the new year to lose weight? Have you mapped out your plan on how you're going to get from Point A to Point B? I'd love to hear about your pathway to success. EPISODE 181: Understanding the Psychology of New Year's Resolutions That Last Dec 19, 2022
    Show notes

Every year, millions of dieters -- maybe even you -- set their eyes on a weight loss goal for the new year. Generally, the SAME weight loss goal they've had for the previous decade on January 1st.

This year, I'm encouraging you to try something different; something that actually works. Screw what the 95% of unsuccessful dieters are doing, and learn what the successful 5% are doing instead. In this episode with co-coach, Steph Miramontes, you'll learn: WHY you self-sabotage, and lifelong strategies to end it forever. How perfection is the enemy of progress, and why embracing your imperfections is essential for long-term success. How diets lead you down a path of hopelessness and frustration, and actionable steps you can take TODAY to help you lose weight without one. Connect with Leslie:

EPISODE 180: How to Eat Guilt-Free this Holiday Season Dec 12, 2022
    Show notes

Along the road of getting anywhere that we want to go, those fun and silly things we call "emotions" will jump into the street out of nowhere. One of the most notorious offenders (imagine it standing in front of a lineup holding some prison numbers if that makes your mind giggle) is guilt, and it can cause a wreck before you make any significant progress.

Join Steph Miramontes and I as we talk about guilt, the role it plays in a typical dieter's fat loss journey, and how to manage it successfully.

    Topics discussed:

    • Why guilt is a useless emotion.
    • The ways that guilt manifests itself in terms of your actions.
    • The permission you need to move beyond guilt.
    • Tools to propel your progress forward WITHOUT the shackles of guilt.

How do you handle guilt? Would these tools work for you? Let us know!

EPISODE 179: How to Overcome All-or-Nothing Thinking and Take Control Dec 05, 2022
    Show notes

If you've ever said: "I'll start tomorrow" "I need to eat all of this now because tomorrow it's back to the diet" "I'll get back on track on Monday" This tells me you're someone who struggles with the "all-or-nothing" mindset. Unfortunately, when you have this thought pattern, it makes consistency nearly impossible to achieve. And consistency is essential for success. Logically, you know you shouldn't be doing this, but you do it anyway. WHY does this happen and what to do about it? What do you think? Check out today's conversation with Coach Steph Miramontes to hear our best action strategies you can begin implementing right now.

    EPISODE 178: We Ate a 12 Course Meal - Here's How it Went Nov 28, 2022
    Show notes

A couple weeks ago, I flew to San Antonio to meet with Coach Steph Miramontes for some projects we're working on. While there, she and her wonderful husband, Nefi, took me out to a fabulous 12-course dinner. And let me tell you, it was an experience to remember!

In the past, this is exactly the type of dining situation that would have paralyzed me. I would have felt anxious about not being able to look up the menu ahead of time, feared losing control on high calorie foods, and terrified of gaining weight. But now? I was sooo excited! After years of failed dieting attempts, there is enjoyment, pleasure, and fun in eating again. And do you know what happened? Over 3 hours later, I walked out of that restaurant so grateful for being in a place where my relationship with food is no longer one based in fear and discomfort. Being able to walk out of a 12-course meal feeling completely in control -- because I was working WITH my body instead of trying to force it -- is exactly what we talked about during today's podcast. We both share the evolution of restaurant dining and the steps we've taken to developing the mindset and eating habits of a "naturally thin" person. If you struggle to manage your food intake while dining in restaurants or at social events, this is the episode for you. Connect with Leslie:

EPISODE 177: Unstuff Yourself This Thanksgiving Nov 21, 2022
    Show notes

This week marks the beginning of several weeks of holidays. That means parties, family gatherings, and lots of food. Thanksgiving is all about being grateful for what we have, who we are connected to in our lives. But too often, for most, it's all about the food. The turkey. The stuffing. The pies. The side dishes. Need I go on? You don't have to go to your holiday meals carrying a small Tupperware container with veggies and cottage cheese. That's old school, right? You are here to live your life and that includes enjoying good food. But that doesn't have to mean that you leave this holiday being as stuffed as the turkey. I want you to feel excited going into this holiday, not dreading it. So today, on the Fat Murder Podcast, co-coach, Steph Miramontes and I talk about dealing with this holiday season in a way that allows for pleasure, but still leaves you in charge of what you do, how you eat and how you feel. I'm going to show you how to think about going into these celebrations, what to do, and how to create an occasion for yourself that you can look back at and feel proud. Proud of yourself for keeping your word to yourself, AND still enjoying all of the food. What do you love most about the holiday season? I'd love to hear about it.

EPISODE 176: The Biggest Mistake You Didn't Know You Were Making Nov 14, 2022
    Show notes

Tomorrow, we officially open the doors to the 6-week holiday eating program, F*ck Fruitcake!

If you want to be able to celebrate the holdays eating all of your favorite foods without the gulit (and the weight gain), then this program is for you. But don't get it twisted, the strategies and mindset shifts detailed in this program are not only appicable during the holidays, but for the rest of your life. Click HERE to learn more.

In this week's episode of the Fat Murder Podcast, Coach Steph Miramontes joins me as we unpack the BIGGEST mistake that you're making...and you don't even know it. It's subtle, but it's absolutely catastrophic to your goals. Any idea what it may be?

If our thoughts are responsible for our feelings and our feelings are what drive our actions, then our efforts are best spend on managing our MIND, not our ACTIONS. But this is where the diet and fitness industries want you to spend your time. And it's also why you may be feeling frustrated at your lack of results.

Today, you don't want to miss this conversation as we dive into this topic and help you better understand the psychological tools you need for success. I hope you'll join us!
