Episode 19.5, The Lesbian Episode Feb 20, 2019

Show notes

It’s the LESBIAN episode! It may or may not have been at the top of Alex’s list for show ideas. We’re talking about how lesbians are portrayed in pop culture versus gay men, not being “gay enough,” and the over-sexualization of the queer community. Our relationships are about a lot more than what happen in the bedroom! We share some amazing insights from our listeners (thanks!) and Brooks brings a vintage Obsessed that will make you say HEY GIRLLLLL. Episode 19.4, The CrossFit Episode Feb 19, 2019

Show notes

THE OPEN IS COMING! This episode is all about CrossFit: our favorite movements, lady-named workouts, and the sparkly fact that CrossFit is gay as hell these days -- but, not all boxes are on board yet, and it hasn’t always been an inclusive sport. We’ll dive into that, what Greg Glassman has to say about it, what it means to be “too gay to play,” and what we’d name our OWN Crossfit benchmark workout. Episode 19.3, The Ally Episode Feb 18, 2019

Show notes

The only people we love more than our LGBTQ+ siblings are our ALLIES! In this episode we talk with Hudson Taylor, the Founder and Executive Director of Athlete Ally. It’s an organization that supports LGBTQ+ athletes and fans, and works to make athletics more inclusive and welcoming for everyone. He’s an All American wrestler, a former theater major (and FOREVER thespian), game changer, and a visible Ally. Hudson opens up about owning your ignorance, why “Ally-ship” should be synonymous with sportsmanship, and the moment on the wrestling mat that changed his life forever. Plus, find out some of our favorite “emotional pep rally” songs, and a Would You Rather that will make you go hmmmmmm. Episode 19.2, The OPEN+ Feb 18, 2019

Show notes

This episode is all about OUTWOD's OPEN+ Leaderboard for the CrossFit games! Every year, athletes from around the world compete in a global competition called the Crossfit Open. However, the leaderboard divides people into 2 categories: Male/Female, and doesn’t allow transgender folks to compete as their identified gender. This forces them to compete as their gender assigned at birth. OUTWOD's OPEN+ is the first leaderboard that won’t put people into gender categories. It breaks down barriers for transgender and non-binary athletes – making the whole experience more inclusive. We also dive into our love of Lady Gaga, other queer icons, and whether or not you’d rather have a bowler hat sewn to your head forever, or a monocle superglued to your face forever. Episode 19.1, The First Episode Feb 18, 2019

Show notes

Yay! You found us! This is our very first episode, so to kick things at OUTCast Podcast off, we wanted to talk about the first time that each of us felt “other.” For Brooks, our own American Idol, it was as a teenager on stage at a VFW during a singing competition, belting out “Son of a Preacher Man.” For Alex, it was something that happened in the tragic last 5 minutes of her 9th grade art class. For Will, it was as a first grade cheerleader in rural Texas. We also get into which emoji we want to represent 2019, and the queer movies that helped shape us. Kim Cattrall even makes a cameo…kind of. OBSESSED: Kim Cattrall scats - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S37dLbR9WA FOLLOW US ON INSTAGRAM:@outcast_podcast
